Trouble is -- this Z1 seems to be quickly uncharging the rechargeable
batteries.
I use the PowerEx MH-C204F recharger with Powerex NiMH cells. When I
noticed the batteries weren't lasting very long, even having used the
'rejuvenate' function on the charger, I purchased Energizer NIMH cells -
but with no appreciable difference.
Is it possible the camera is 'shorting out' somewhere? The batteries
"die" after only a few hours between the times I use the camera...
QUESTION 2: Has anyone used the SONY repair facility for camera repair
(since Minolta is outta business)? Are they reasonable? Are there any
other choices for repair facilities? I'm from California - so locality
might be important (?).
thanks ahead of time for whatever advice is available...

I have a 7Hi that like the Z1, uses AA rechargeables. The ones supplied with
the camera were 1800 mAH, and lasted between 5 and 10 shots! I bought
progressively larger capacity batteries when they became available (I'm from
the UK, and there is a mail order company 7dayshop.com that does mail order,
but being offshore they are lower taxed). By the time I got up to 2000 mAH,
the battery use was heavy, and I used to wander round with two spare sets.
Later, when I got up to 2600 mAH capacity, I found that the camera runs for
days without a battery charge, and I gave up on carrying any spares in the
camera case provided that I have newly charged cells in the camera.
Recently, I bought some 2800 mAH batteries, and I'm expecting even better
life from those.
My advice is to get the largest capacity you can find - forget the brand,
it's the capacity that counts.
I can't help you with your Q2, sorry.
