and it seems he was asleep when the course on the Code of Conduct was
taught. It's NAME, RANK, SERIAL NUMBER, and DATE OF BIRTH, Senator
McCANR. You don't have to go blathering on about your ship, your unit and
your target.

I don't know how many times it has been pointed out that the name of the
ship is stenciled on the aircraft, along with the squadron designation, and
embroidered on the flight suit. They knew what the target was because bombs
were dropped on it. They didn't have to ask a single question about these
subjects. All you are doing is confirming your lack of knowledge about the
US Navy. I just looked above and noted that about six groups are all
politics, and only one group (from where I am posting) alt.military, is
about the military. So you are all about politics, not military. I suggest
you drop alt.military from your political screed.

Ok Billzz, you got your wish. I dropped the local politics groups,
and added the one for us.military.navy - just to please you!

But, as the subject line begs an answer.......

After losing 4 aircraft before being shot down, couldn't the Navy
catch on that John McCain was insufficient as a pilot?

Well I do not know the answer to that question, as I served in the army from
private to colonel, and went to the Armed Forces Staff College, and The
National War College, all joint service schools, (and every class had former
navy POWs and none of the navy guys ever said anything about it.) I did
know that carrier-qualified pilots were hard to come by and maybe they gave
him some "pass" because they needed him. But some one had to pass his
"quals" and some one had to write his efficiency reports. So I figure that
I am not qualified to pass on his ratings, and the people that were
qualified, did pass on his ratings.

I did command the largest nuclear-capable artillery battalion in Europe, and
did have to relieve commanders. But that was a different environment.

Anyway, I cannot second-guess, at this late date, as to whether he was
qualified or not. The US Navy thought that he was.

McCain's father was an admiral.
McCain got privileged passes in many ways.
After returning from Vietnam ruined physically he was magically restored to
flight status

A fellow pilot POW's view of McCain...
Phillip Butler is a 1961 graduate of the United States Naval Academy
and a former light-attack carrier pilot. In 1965 he was shot down over
North Vietnam where he spent eight years as a prisoner of war.

bottom of his 800 man graduating class. I and many others have
speculated that the main reason he did graduate was because his father
was an Admiral, and also his grandfather, both U.S. Naval Academy
graduates."

"He's had the military at his beckon call forever. Anything bad that
happened was written up like a movie script to make him a hero or to
escape being fingered."

It appears that Billzz is just pasting the same response in this
portion of the thread, similar to giving his name, rank, and serial
number.

Yeah, McCain's father and his paternal grandfather were both four star
admirals in the Navy. McCain's father was still in the Navy when his
Johnny Boy was in the Navy. F'sure his father pulled strings to get
Johnny on a jet - if nothing else but to perpetuate the "McCain
influence" on the Navy......

I had always heard of "McHale's Navy", the tv show... perhaps the
people who wrote and produced it were merely engaging in a play of
names when they called it "McHale's" instead of "McCain's"

"McCain's Navy"

That is the most succinct answer I've heard so far!

“War Victim McCain”

He dropped his load of bombs

Never seein’ any dead

Caused a world o’ hurt

But it never stressed his head.

So the gookies shot ‘im down

And busted up his arms

When he was released

He went lookin’ for some charms.

His mate was sick with cancer

So he left his loyal wife

He saw no need to wait

He had to live his life.

He chanced upon some butt

And lookee what he found.

A rich and drugged-up slut

But at least she owned some ground.

But now he thinks he’s happy

Each morn when he arouses

And surveys all he’s gained,

Including six or seven houses.
