Sorry. I was an MP at McKee Barracks near Crailsheim '55-'57. I've never
been able to raise anyone here.

I was in Mannheim from 1993-1996. The 95th MP Battalion was in Mannheim. The
company that covered Mannheim, I believe, was the 272nd MP Company. They
[the HHD 95th and 272(??)] were at Taylor Barracks, not Turley, however.

The 97th MP Bn (Confinement), which ran the Mannheim Correctional Facility,
was also in Mannheim.

The USAREUR Provost Marshal Office (where I was assigned) was also at Taylor
Barracks, Mannheim.

The 42nd Customs Group had been in Mannheim, but were reflagged to the 14th
MP Brigade, then later (1994 or 95), folded their flag, as well.

Although I have not been on the website in a very long time
(my opinion on how it is run / looks, is much different from the web site
owner)
you may go to http://www.militarypolice.com
and see if you can find anyone there. Before he changed the layout
it was a fantastic place to go looking for old friends
now it is nearly impossible to look someone up, but who knows

I just saw this post and realize it is 6 1/2 years old but here's what I can tell you. The MP unit was the 537th. It was under the 94th MP Battalion, 15th brigade. It then became C company 94th Battalion in March of 71. The unit was relocated to Sullivan barracks in 1972. Early 73 it became A company 95th battalion. I was there from 70-72.

I was there at Turley Barracks arriving in January, 1964 after a cold voyage on a troop ship across the Atlantic to Bremerhaven. Sometime in March I didn't actually see the sun but I did see a bright spot in the clouds so I knew that the sun was still there. Through good fortune, I got to go to TAPS (Traffic Accident Prevention School) school in Oberammergau and spent most of my tour investigating traffic accidents which was pretty good duty. I don't know how many accidents we prevented but we investigated lots of them. We averaged about one fatal accident a month. If we went for a couple of months without any "fatals" we would start getting antsy. Sure enough, we would get two or three in one day and keep the average up. I made Sgt and ran the TAPS section for about six months before I got out of the Army in August, 1966. We were under USAEUR when I got there and under Seventh Army when I left. I have very little memory of being part of the 94th MP Battalion although I did get taken to Battalion HQ early on for some kind of processing. I found out years later that a first cousin with the same last name was at Turley barracks at the same time. Unfortunately, he was with some small Air Force detachment. They wore civilian clothes and did not interact with us so we never made a connection, unfortunately. Ivan Erwin
