Remembering James Lee Veal
Shot down in the prime of his life.

The following are exerts from Gary parker and Steve Gregory, as placed on the
M.P. Homepage Wanted List, in there struggles to have a murdered friend, and
our beloved partner remembered, as promised by our military establishment. The
notes are not always easy however they are an on going effort to see this
memorial through. We believe that the problems we have encountered are not
isolated and therefore we are dedicated to all our beloved fallen Veterans and
their families , We hold them in high esteem and pray for the loved ones left
behind. It should be noted that many Veterans die alone and feeling so unloved
and with out hope. We want to bring a Light into that dark place.

We are Military Policemen!

I would be interested in finding any M.P. who has spent time at Waiane
Army Recreation Center. That is on the Island of Oahau Hi.
I was there in 1975-1977 when all the shooting was going on.
I lost mt partner to a shotgun blast in 1977. This was on the Main gate.
His name was James L. Veal, may he rest in peace.

I too used to work at WARC and knew James Veal who was in my platoon. I
was so glad to hear that there is a memorial in place there. I was
working to get a plaque at the 25th MP Company after hearing that the CO
knew nothing about the Murder of James Veal. I talked with a Lt. there,
and was told that he knew nothing of this. He got back to me two months
later and told me that after checking, that I had the name wrong and the
year. Ya right. This pissed me off to no end.
Now I hear there is a memorial and that's just great. YOU MADE MY
DAY!!!

Anyone who remembers the Murder SP-4 James Lee Veal. He was shot and
killed while on guard duty at the Waiane Army beach on July 12th at
0200. He was was shot by one of two men trying to get his .45. He was
shot so close that it pushed his badge into his heart. When I contacted
the 25th MP co. they knew nothing of this. I would like to get some help
in getting a plaque or memorial put up for him. We as former MP's owe it
to him to remember. James was not only in my platoon, he was a friend!

I talked (E-mail) with a R.L. Blumer who is a SSGT in the 25th MP
Company, and he told me that He felt bad that he too did not know of
this Murder of one of their own.. He also said that he would look into
it for us. He agreed that something should be done. He also stated that
there isn't even a plaque of any kind listing thoes 25th MP's who have
been killed anywhere in the past. I too will be going with Steve if I
have to in order to make things right to Ohau. We need all past and
present Military Police officers to help with this wrong. This could
happen to any MP Company. We can't forget thoes that died in the line of
duty. If we do, how can we live with ourselves?

Dear Gary:
We spent many mounths on shift withn Jim, we knew him pretty good, I
truly cared abut him. I have the vision of the badget incased in his
heart, he was dead before he hit the ground.
I understand that this memorior, the plack is a dust collector in the
office and not on the gate. This is an outrage. I will see to it that
this is changed. I am a writer and I will make my contacts to see this
through. I need to find more MPs who are dedicated to this cause. If
thre is no MP out there MPs who don't care about death in the line of
duty I have no time for them and they need to reexamine themselves,,,,NO
ONE WILL DO IT FOR US!!! A call to all WARC MPs, I don't care when you
have bee there. Make
Sure you make contact.
I am so great ful to Gary Parker(my partner and Jim Veals).
I am greatful to Tim Pipia and Rex Sweet for their input.

Veal was killed in the early morning hours,of July 12, 1977 at the main

I know thathe motive was Smit just wanted to steal Jim,s 45,Jim Bravely
resisted relinqushing his weapon,Smith had the draw of the concealed
shoot gun and Jim never saw the weapon,he died that night. I Steve
Gregory have many other
details.
I suffer from a service connected Disability, I can only speak of such
thig for so long.
There was always shooting going on at WARC, we were hard and tought and
the ones that lasted with out fear were winners, in some strange way.

I have always remembered the shot gun blast that killed my good partner
at WARC on that day in July of 1977. My life was never the same since. I
was alone and having flashbacks, no one wanted to be around me.I was
mean and kind of crazy, I spent 3 years in the VA hospital. I go to the
hospital all the time. I have PTSD, service connected. I was honorable
discharged. I was getting sick then.
I was so pissed off to leaned that no one knew of this event, I placed a
plack on the gate in loving memory of "JAMES L VEAL,,,no greater love
has a man then one who lay down his life for his friends." GO LOOK AT
THAT SIMPLE PLACK IF YOU CAN FIND IT.
I am greatful To Gary Parker, who worked with me and Jim Veal. Gary has
made contact with some of the people there in the 25th, I am hopeful the
Jim will get want he has been promised--A granite plack at the front
gate in Waianae-"In loving memory to our fallen friend JAMES L VEAL,,no
greater love has a man then one who lay down his life for his friend.
I don't feel so alone any more. I am still that same MP back in 1977 and
I still think of all the MPs and I can honestly say that my heart has
always been with you men.
I am thank ful to my friend and other partner who work with Jim Veal and
me,GARY PARKER. Gary has been in touch with some people over there in
the 25th MP BN and we have hopes of have what was promised a large
Granite plack nameing the main gate at Waianae(where Jim was guned down)
in Loving Memory of our fallen friend JAMES L VEAL.

Steve, I understand how you guys feel about losing your partner Jim Veal. But
please stop posting messages to the wanted list about it. Thats not what the
wanted list was made for. If you guys want a message board, ask for one and
I'll set one up. The wanted list serves as a way for people to find other
people not to post opinions or to ask for information on events. I'll set up a
message board for that purpose this week. Thanks

Greetings, I know this posting is quite dated but I thought I would add my comments. I was assigned to the 25th MP Company in mid to late 1970s. I had just been reassigned from Hawaii to Washington D.C. when SP4 Veal was murdered at Waianae. Anyone who wishes to contact me concerning the events of that period, is welcome to do so. My email is: sctd...@aol.com Please use SP4 Veal in your subject line, so I know your email isn't Spam. All the best, SFC Robert B. Himrod, US Army (ret)

Steve, it's Dave Brem. I was on the gate just prior to James getting shot. He relived me and when I got to my cabin the phone rang from the main office informing me about the shooting. I was there within five minutes. If you need anything please text me. I'm sorry to hear you're having problems from the incident.
