Here's my "top ten list" of books on the Path including poetry,
spiritual discourses, history, a newsletter, and a contemporary book
that's especially good for new people just learning about meditation
and the journey into Light and Sound:

1) "Songs of Kabir," translated by Rabindranath Tagore, Samuel Weiser
Books. This is still one of the most wonderful collections of mystic
poetry in the history of the world containing some of Kabir's best
compositions on the journey of the soul into Love, Light and Sound,
the Path of the lover for the Beloved: Bhakti and Surat Shabd Yoga.

2) The Guru Granth or Adi Granth; the Sikh scriptures represents a
vast collection of the banis (psalms) of the Saints. I wish more
westerners studied it as it really captures the Bhakti or devotional
side of the teachings.

3) "Inner & Outer Peace Through Meditation," Rajinder Singh, Element
Books. This is a very nice introduction to Sant Mat, and it's
designed to be 'user-friendly' for westerners new to the Path and not
so acquainted with Indian terminology or concepts.

4) "The Sants -- Studies in a Devotional Tradition of India," edited
by Karine Schomer and W.H. McLeod, Motilal Banarsidass Books, New
Delhi, a great book on the history, teachings and love-poetry of the
Sants of India; a good text-book on classic Sant Mat.

5) "Prem Patra Radhasoami," by Huzur Maharaj, Soami Bagh Books (the
Maheswari's in Agra). Though it's almost completely unknown in the
west, "Prem Patra" (I - VI) is a real encyclopedia of the teachings
of the Masters. This is a 'bible' and I've learned much from it.

6) "Spiritual Elixir" by Kirpal Singh, published by several sources
including: SK Publications, Sant Bani Books, and Ruhani Satsang --
this is an excellent collection of letters providing spiritual
direction on a large number of subjects. Great Q & A.

7) "The Gnostic Mystery," by Andrea Grace Diem, an online book that
compares Sant Mat mysticism with that of an ancient movement from the
middle east called Gnosticism. Sant Mat, Sufism and Gnosticism all
have much in common and this little book does a fabulous job of
exploring the universal Light & Sound and soul-travel mysticism of
the human race from west to east.

8) "The Kabir Voice" newsletter published by the Kabir Association of
Canada (Vancouver) -- I thoroughly enjoy this newsletter which is
dedicated to the teachings of Kabir and the Masters in the Kabir line
up to the present time. I now have all the issues going back to the
early 80's.

9) "Mysticism In India -- The Poet-Saints of Maharashtra," by R.D.
Ranade, SUNY Press, NY is an anthology of writings of many southern
Indian Sants including Tukarama.

10) "Radhasoami Reality," Mark Juergensmeyer, Princeton University
Press is a necessary resource to consult for information on the
recent history of Sant Mat and the Radhasoami Faith.

If anyone's interested in finding more about how to order any of
these books or the Kabir Voice newsletter, they are all available.
Just e mail me off-list and I'll send you the info.

Dear Michael:

Yes, the Prem Patra and Prem Bani books are great. Phelps Notes is now
back in print again from the same publishers in Agra. You might like
that one also. It's style reminds me of Julian Johnson's Path of the
Masters.

SK Publications publishes Heart To Heart Talks in two volumes, the
unedited version.

There's so much unpublished material from Master Kirpal: bhajans to
Huzur, descriptions of the higher planes, and letters. I hope some of
it get's published someday.

Naam Bhakti,

James
