BOLD AS LOVE*

"But they're all bold as love.
Just ask the axis."
- Jimi Hendrix

"The timid never find true love and happiness;
But the bold do."
- Darwin Gross

One of the ongoing myths in our society is that strength and love are mutually exclusive. In this yin-yang dichotomy of the dual worlds, love is generally depicted as a softer, passive feminine trait, whereas strength, boldness and adventure are inherently masculine. In popular music, love songs are frequently either sentimental ballads or libido-driven tempests of passion and rage.

As someone attempting to communicate the eternal principles of Shabda and Divine Love, I find this challenging. Many books and songs dealing with love and spirituality tend to be of a passive, ethereal nature. For many people this is no problem, for it conveys the frequency of Divine Spirit they can best understand. However, for the population at large, such a portrayal of spirituality comes off as weak, if not downright wimpy.

I realize that saying this may push some peoples' buttons, and perhaps even polarize a few. But such a risk is far outweighed by the need to be honest, and correct a counter-productive misconception. When I first began studying Surat Shabda Meditation in the mid-1970's, I was immediately attracted to its emphasis on being an active path. While I spent much time examining various eastern philosophies and religions, none of them completely connected with my western upbringing and cliffhanging spirit.

The teacher I related to best in high school was Ram Dass. He was intelligent yet warm, profound yet funny, relaxed yet dynamic. And, like me, his inner quest was sparked by Western alchemy and pharmacology - specifically psilocybin and LSD. He - along with such fellow explorers as Timothy Leary, Aldous Huxley, Ken Kesey and the Grateful Dead - had a pioneering, adventuresome spirit. They were constantly searching, exploring new levels of awareness - always pushing the envelope of consciousness one step further.

When I discovered Darwin Gross and Paul Twitchell - and, later, Kirpal Singh and Charan Singh, Sawan Singh and Shiv Dayal Singh, Rumi, Kabir and Guru Nanak - I had the same feeling. I knew intuitively that here were people who were avid explorers of the inner dimensions. They were not regurgitating some philosophy they had read or studied, and they weren't mired in millennia-old ossified tradition and dogma. They wrote, and spoke, from direct experience of the inner regions of pure consciousness. And they offered experimental techniques that you could use to prove the existence of these states for yourself.

Primary among these is learning how to attune yourself to the return, or upward and inward, flow of the Shabda - the Word - the Holy Spirit - the Voice of God. This LightSong of the Eternal, by ITs very nature, carries soul past all duality, all the way home to ITs Source - The Eternal One - the Ocean of Love and Mercy. Because IT comes from the Heart of All Love, Shabda is the very embodiment of love. And, because of ITs eternal flowing nature, IT is also dynamic. IT is not static. IT is not passive. IT is the Master Power - IT is pure love - and IT is eternal.

One reason so many people are deluded into thinking love is passive is that such a mindset is in the best interest of Kal - the lord of the mind. Kal's goal is to keep us passive, unquestioning and acquiescent. Like a jailer, his job is to keep us imprisoned in these worlds of physical, emotional and mental duality - content with the assumption that this is all there is. He doesn't want us to know that there are realms of pure love and total consciousness available to any who wish to access them.

One of the techniques Kal employs to keep us imprisoned is to operate through psychics who offer a few paranormal parlor tricks to satisfy the curious. These include the obligatory powers of precognition, telekinesis, telepathy, divination and, of course, the increasingly popular channeling.

Because such capacities are "supernatural" - particularly channeling, which involves a non-physical being hot-wiring someone's physical body and taking it for a joy ride - they tend to confirm people's suspicions that there are indeed dimensions beyond this one, without offering a way for the individual to explore them for him or herself. At best, they offer people a means of marginally improving conditions here on earth (witness all of the current invocations of aliens and "light beings" to help us manifest a new age utopia). But they never provide the key to true spiritual freedom.

Living Shabda Teachers offer that key with which you can personally unlock the door of your mind and dance into the Kingdom of Heaven, serenaded and guided by the call of the LightSong of Eternal Love. Through initiation, they link souls with the Shabda. When you dance to the Supreme Melody, IT fills you from the inside out - cleansing your subconscious, mental, causal, astral and physical bodies of impurities and imbalances, replacing them with Divine Love.

To the physical consciousness, such a process is anything but passive. It is active - and dynamic. To work off old karmas and learn to lead a karma-less existence in a single lifetime is not for the faint of heart. Moreover, letting go of the little self - and all of its habits and preconceptions - takes real courage.

It takes courage to face old habits, to clear away ossified mental and emotional patterns. It takes courage to be willing to change and grow, to shed a skin. It takes courage to step off the "solid" ground of preconceptions and attachments, and dance on the waters of the River of Life. It takes courage to let go to love, and to learn to forgive - others and ourselves.

And yet releasing attachments, relaxing and allowing the Audible Life Stream to carry you back Home, offers rewards which must be experienced to be believed.

Total freedom - total awareness - total compassion - total forgiveness - total love. It's the ultimate adventure, and the only dance there is. Shall we go?

Yours Always in the LightSong of Eternal Love,

Michael
