The attached document records nearly 2300 cases of detention, arrest or
sentencing of Falun Gong practitioners since June 1999. These figures
reflect information available to Amnesty International in mid-March 2000
and differ from earlier figures published in AI document "The crackdown
on Falun Gong and other so-called 'heretical organizations'", AI Index:
ASA 17/11/00, published on 23 March 2000. Some of the cases are of
identified individuals, others refer to unnamed groups of people. The
document includes details of
* around 660 cases of people either held without trial in
"re-education through labour" camps or sentenced to prison terms under
the Criminal Law;
* nearly 900 recent cases of people detained in police custody; and
* around 740 cases of individuals or groups of people reported to
have been detained in July 1999, at the time that the group was banned,
but about whom no recent information has
been available.
Since the Falun Gong was banned by the Chinese government on 22 July
1999, tens of thousands of practitioners have been arbitrarily detained
by police, some of them repeatedly for short periods. Many of them are
reported to have been tortured or ill-treated in detention. Some
practitioners have been detained in psychiatric hospitals. The number of
practitioners who remain in detention is believed to be in the
thousands. Some of those detained have been charged with crimes and
sentenced after unfair trials, while others have been sent to labour
camps without trial. New arrests and detentions continue to be reported
every day.
Amnesty International is calling on the Chinese government to stop the
mass arbitrary detentions, unfair trials and other human rights
violations resulting from the crackdown on the Falun Gong and other
groups branded by the government as "heretical organizations". All the
information available indicates that the crackdown is politically
motivated, with legislation being used retroactively to convict people
on politically-driven charges, and new regulations introduced to further
restrict fundamental freedoms. For further information see AI document
"The crackdown on Falun Gong and other so-called 'heretical
organizations'", AI Index: ASA 17/11/00, 23 March 2000.
This page summarizes a 60-page document: AI Index: ASA 17/12/00, issued
by Amnesty International on 29 March 2000. Anyone wishing further
details or to take action on this issue should consult the full

A civil war will make a big one .. will stop the growth will rise hates will plunge the country back, and if the
communist will fight like devils and will overtake the civil revolution ?A terror regime will be set in ,worse than
ever ..
poor Chinese what a waste of lives , hopes and young blood!
Moreover when freed China might get back in the turmoil they had after the fall of PuYi.. into drug ,corruption,
prostitution, people exploitation .. it was not nice and easy to live then for common people, and freedom was a mere
word as well !
( more or less the way the actual "free world "is living )
Let things unfold as they have to ..
it is not good to provoke people from the outside and make Chinese insiders be in the front line!
FG is by its acting even if justified , is rising the tension instead of calming it down sacrifying the life and
freedom of many, many people
this is my 2 ▊f worth !

It's important to note that the Falun Gong organization DENIES that the people
who set themselves on fire are members. Every time I hear about them on the
news supports my opinion that they are a cult & are not to be trusted,
regardless of whether their chi gong does anything.
But wanting to impose ideas by trichery or force or prosecution might them
be Christians Falun, or Communist is evil !
BTW Jesus was a communist that preached the freedom of poors and slaves aganst
the power of the Impire and Jew priests.... If Jesus did not exist maybe we might
still be adoring Jupiter Apollon and old greek-romans Gods . The cult of Isis
and so on as in the old Roman empire all cults were accepted ..( Huge broad mind
already ). with only one exception ,ie: thedivinity of the Roman Emperor that
everybody has to accept..... Christians did not accept and have been
presecuted..and the story teach us what happened..
But the idea that without Jesus we probably might still have the old
Greek-Rromans Gods
has a charm for its own ..
Take care

Or possibly start a Falun Gong newsgroup. But I am here, not because I am
cold hearted to the cause and to the freedom of China, but to learn more
about Gigong. I will still watch what is happening over there, but I don't
want to sift through 24 posts and resposts of the same thing, that one
simple post could have covered. This is that last that I will read, post,
or even pay attention to on this NG about Falun Gong. And if everyone else
makes this the last statement then maybe the hint will be taken, and the
discussion will move a more suited venue.

You also may be violating the groups charter.
Qi Gong, Tai Chi, any other energy systems and techniques would be
appropriate.
Thank You.
