OK....I'm a newbie to all this. I have a JVC DVD Recorder and record TV
programs to DVD-RAM, DVD-RW and DVD-R. Why when I record to either a RW
or R can I not watch this on my laptop which supports DVD's? Does the
JVC record in a format which the laptop (or any other PC) cannot understand?

Cheers

Not sure about the -R options, but the -RW when recorded in Video mode,
then finalised should play on any machine capable of playing -RWs. The -RW
recorded in VR mode will not play on any other unit, its a modification of
the -RW standard to allow re-use of all spare space on the disc as
contiguous space- amongst other things.

also, if after finalizing disc is visible, it's a DRM function !
