Well, those furry little guys must have been hibernating all winter.
Hadn't seen any for months. Then yesterday I was vacuuming .... I got
myself one of those Phantom Fury vacuums last month .... works great.
Suddenly there was a deep grinding noise and then a popping sound .... and
then I saw this multi coloured "fluffy thing" swirling around in the see
through dirt collector. To say it was a shock would be an understatement.
It took me a few seconds to think of shutting the vacuum off ... and that
poor tribble was just going around and around and around. When I finally
shut it off and opened the dirt collector .... the thing jumped out and
tried to escape.

Trouble is, it just kept running around in circles .... guess it thought it
was still in the vacuum. Then it hit me .... it was "running".
Yessiree Bob's your uncle ..... this tribble has feet. Last year they had
mutated to multi coloured little suckers .... but now they have feet. And
here I had this black little white thing with orange little purple feet ....
running around in circles in my living room.

Well ... while I stood there watching, literally losing my sense of reality
.... the tribble regained his and took off for the front door. It hit the
screen door hard enough that it opened a fraction, slipped out ... and as I
got to the door I could see it dashing into the wood lot at the edge of the
yard. I pulled on my shoes and decided to follow.

There is a path through the wood lot from my place to my neighbour's place
on the west, so I slowly walked along it, trying to see into the underbrush.
I could faintly hear what I thought was purring coming from north of the
path, so carefully navigated my way over the old fallen trees and branches,
ducking the tentacles of the hanging vines that are beginning to choke the
old growth trees. As I ventured further, the purring was becoming
distinctly louder. There was definitely more than one tribble here.

I suddenly burst upon a clearing on the forest floor and just caught a
glimpse of a mass of spectrum colours disappearing in every direction into
the foliage. Or so I thought. Upon closer examination, it became obvious
that the tribbles I have been questing for these past few years had taken up
residence in this enclave. They had fashioned what I guess you could only
call "homes" in the trunks of the old growth trees, each with a door and
small window. I sat then, in the center of the clearing, and pondered what
wonderment of nature allowed these furry little balls to construct such
humble dwellings. Then I was struck by the knowledge that in nature,
necessity will discover a way.

As I pondered all this new knowledge, I realized I was being watched.
Surprisingly I was not nervous, I sensed no malice from those that were
concealed. Slowly, emerging from under a ground hugging bush, the tribble
that had the "joy ride from hell" in my vacuum showed itself. Timidly,
cautiously ... it made its way closer but stopped just before it entered
into my area of reach. I extended my hand gently .... I became aware that
the birds high up in the trees were suddenly silent ..... the breeze which
had been caressing its way through the woods had become calm as if nature
herself was suddenly holding her breath in anticipation.

With only the slightest of movements, the tribble positioned itself under my
hand ... much in the same way as cat does when it is wishing to be stroked.
As I pet the tribble, a solitary purring could be heard, almost echoing in
the small clearing. As this contact continued, more of the tribbles became
visible as they drew closer, each starting to once again purr as they made
their presence known, until the silence was filled with their sound. And
nature stopped holding her breath ... the breeze once again meandering
though the trees and the birds adding their chorus ... completing this
concerto of life.

The tribbles seemed to know that I would not betray the trust they extended
.... shared. Over the next few hours, I became acquainted with each ....
with me affectionately petting and talking to each ... and they
communicating almost telepathically through their throaty exchanges.
Acknowledging and accepting my presence within their community. I
marvelled at their rainbow of colours. There were more of the black little
white ones with orange little purple feet, quite a few of the green little
blue ones with pink little yellow feet and brown little orange ones with red
little indigo feet ... but there were only a couple of the pink little
purple ones with neon green little neon red feet. Good thing too ... those
little suckers are hard on the eyes.

As dusk drew closer ... I backed away from this collection of beings which
only seemed to know and give love, and I inwardly pledged that, except for
relating this story here, the knowledge of their presence and existence I
will not share. I realized too that my "royal title" is now defunct, for
there is no need for me to quest for the tribbles ... they have found me .
I shall keep my title as is, however, for it will remind me of the hope I
had and which I have now found.

I stepped back on the path, only to encounter my neighbour bringing a
bouquet of lilacs over to me. He asked what I had found so interesting
back in there .... I replied with only "nature's miracles" .... then we
continued the short walk back to my place, talking of other things.

I fell asleep last night to the lullaby of the tribbles purring, wafting
through the open window .... and awoke this morning looking forward to once
again spending time with my newly discovered neighbours.

I wish each of you a life filled with love and "hope ... realized"

Take care
Peter

Thank you Windswept ...

and ... head and space being the operative words here folks hehehehehe.
I could get a "swelled head" .... but most times that is only nature's
frenzied effort to fill a vacuum hahaha

Take care
Peter
