The following website reveals a very long list of organizations here
within the USA by each state, Canada and several other Countries for
PPS FM ME CFIDS CFS MCS GWI LYME ALS and many other related illnesses.

The Northern Virginia CFS/ME & FMS Support Group
http://www.geocities.com/cfsnova/othergroups.html#a

Some of the websites no longer exist, such as, our fm cfs world, inc
and some have no recent activity at all. http://www.ourfm-cfidsworld.org/html/support_groups.html
so not all are valid or still in business.

If you're new to the internet and new to FM ME CFIDS CFS MCS GWI LYME
PPS MS LUPUS and other related illnesses be sure to do your homework.
Ask questions and learn.
There are search engines such as google http://www.google.com/ and
other search engines to find out the latest news concerning those
listed and who they are associated with.

I highly recommend The National CFIDS Foundation.

Regardless of what diagnosis was diagnosed the National CFIDS
Foundation (NCF) Medical Committee researchers and the NCF members
continued to concentrate on research with all it's multi system/multi
systemic involvements, and under it's multiple confusing names since
the World Health Organization (WHO) recognized and recorded Myalgic
Encephalomyelitis into history decades ago...DS
http://www.ncf-net.org/petition.htm

My heart felt thanks to the NCF's Medical Committee Researchers and
the NCF members who never stopped believing research held all our
answers. Also, my heart felt thanks to all the Medical Professional's
and "AIDS Made in America" from: The Journal of Degenerative Diseases,
published by
Common Cause Medical Foundation, Box 133 , Station B, Sudbury , ON ,
Canada P3E 4N5. Common Cause Medical Foundation is no longer online
however can be reached through email...DS

There are others who've shared from around the world and dedicated
yourselves to helping others to understand, and to cope sharing
missions which include helping others...DS

Sharing our knowledge, research, kindness and understanding is the
best medicene I've ever found so thanks to all of you who have kept in
contact all these many years and who never stopped believing proven
valid research proves it.DS

There comes a time when we all say, for whatever reason, enough is
enough. We count to 10 a 1000 times, which sadly, many of us can no
longer do. Our minds will not allow us to do so, any longer.
Each day, we take it as it comes, pacing our way to another day in our
own ways...DS

I'll pray one day truth will lead to Peace which will cease crimes
against humanity....DS

Our Town 2007: Colin Denby Swanson's Atomic Farmgirl
by Justin Boyd

Colin Denby Swanson's Atomic Farmgirl paints Fairfield, Washington as
the epitome of one vision of the American West. It's farm country, a
land of clear, blue sky and limitless fields filled with wheat,
barley, cows and horses; a peaceful place where humans, animals and
crops live closely and depend on each other in a way that seems old-
fashioned, lost in time.

But there's also something deeply wrong with this landscape, Colin
makes clear, something haunting and dangerous. After all, Atomic
Farmgirl is also the story of how and why this seemingly blessed land
is cursed, blighted by a history of betrayal, murder and ends-justify-
the-means war-making that makes true peace impossible to find.

"What's so remarkable about this story is that it's normal, it's about
a normal place," Colin says. "And underneath the normalcy, there's
something wrong. But it takes three decades to figure out what that
is."

"That" is Fairfield's contamination from its proximity to the Hanford
Site, a U.S. government nuclear complex where we developed the
plutonium to support the Manhattan Project and to build "Fat Man," the
atomic bomb we dropped on Nagasaki. The 586-square mile site actively
produced plutonium from WWII and through the Cold War, when our
understanding of the dangers of nuclear radiation lagged far behind
our desire to wield nuclear weapons. Through carelessness and through
purposeful experimental releases of radiation from Hanford, Fairfield
was and is the victim of accumulated radioactive contamination many
times the level of the Chernobyl disaster. Now, Hanford is at the
center of the world's largest environmental cleanup. The government
and Hanford-area residents are still litigating what is owed the
contamination's victims.

The opportunity to combine past and present was partly what attracted
the Drilling Company to develop and, this November, to produce Atomic
Farmgirl, says Hamilton Clancy, the group's artistic director.

"It's interesting, when you delve into the background of the play, to
be doing something that not only did happen, but is still happening,"
he says. "The play is a very unique opportunity to address several
ongoing issues with one story."

The play doesn't confine itself to the legacy of nuclear
contamination, he emphasizes, but broadens its perspective in both the
issues it explores, and the history it relates. In Colin's play the
Hanford disaster is simply the latest example of the violence visited
this land. A brutal history dates back, perhaps, to humans' first
arrival across the Bering Strait; and, if not that, then to the
"Indian Wars" of the 1800s, when the U.S. Army chased American Indians
from their land to make way for homesteaders from the East. With
Hanford, the backdrop of Atomic Farmgirl is the curse put on the land
by Whiet-Alks, an American Indian who witnessed her husband's betrayal
and lynching by U.S. cavalry in 1858.

Atomic Farmgirl is based on the memoir of the same name by Teri Hein,
a woman who grew up in the radioactive shadow of Hanford watching her
father, friends and neighbors suffer disturbingly high levels of
thyroid, brain and other cancers. Some survived, some didn't (some
survived, then didn't the second time around), but the news that
another friend or neighbor had developed cancer was commonplace to the
point that Hein and her sisters knew to expect the announcements;
Christmases became defined by whatever bad news dropped that year-
Thyroid Cancer Christmas, Brain Hemorrhage Christmas. Like Hein's
memoir, Colin's play is about a community-the Heins, their ancestors
and their neighbors-holding it together, keeping on until the terrible
truth becomes unavoidable.

"This is a family values play," Colin says. "It's a play about
Lutherans. It's about people of faith. It's about small-town values.
They don't want to go to lawyers. They're patriotic-this is the place
where we built the bomb we dropped on Nagasaki. This is a patriotic
community that resisted this information for years, and is still
resisting this information."

The Drilling Company's production emphasizes this sense of community
by casting a full 10 actors, many of them double-cast to play multiple
roles that span generations and cultures. The idea, Hamilton says, was
to create a snapshot of an American community as it is now, much like
Our Town presents a picture-now iconic-of turn-of-the-century America.

Atomic Farmgirl is also about the Hanford community by a definition
that reaches back more than 150 years-homesteaders, American Indians
and today's inhabitants are joined by their connection to the land
they call home and the violence they suffered and perpetrated. Whiet-
Alks is a ghost, one of the many who inhabit the play. But her purpose
is less to exact revenge than to demand honest acknowledgement of the
crimes against her and all Hanford residents through the years.

"Women talk," Whiet-Alks says. "Women talk because men die."

She visits the Hein matriarch, Dolores, to persuade Dolores to speak
out against the government's betrayal. Whiet-Alks is sorry for the
curse she placed on the land, but she still refuses to be silent about
what happened to her and her people. But when Whiet-Alks visits
Dolores, Dolores is all about silence and suffering through. Through
all the cancers, hospitals and deaths, she's going to wash dishes.
That's in the 1970s. By the 1990s, however, even she has had enough-
the most contemporary story woven through Atomic Farmgirl is Dolores'
crusade to make known the truth about Hanford.

Atomic Farmgirl is not about victimhood, and it's not a movie-of-the-
week ("one woman's fight against overwhelming odds..."). It's the story
of what is done and what has been done to make the world we live in.
If that's not always a pretty picture, the play suggests, there are
some things that we-that anyone-can do.

Atomic Farmgirl runs Nov. 14 to Dec. 1 at the 78th Street Theatre Lab,
236 West 78th Street. Please visit www.drillingcompany.org for more
details.

The Stories .. The Toll continues...

TIMESONLINE

November 12, 2007
The fight goes on for veterans broken by the horrors of war
Terry Walker died a wreck of his former self. Now his parents are
suing the MoD for damages

When Ted and Hazel Walker took part in the Remembrance Sunday service
at their parish church their thoughts were for the son they buried
this year.

Three weeks before his death, Terry Walker woke up in his hospital bed
screaming that the tanks were coming.

Thrashing around, the Gulf War veteran pulled out the tubes and wires
that connected him to the monitoring equipment in the specialist heart
unit at Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne. He fought the nurses
who tried to calm him down. It was one of the final nightmares to
visit a man who died a broken shell of his former self.

Mr Walker's parents, pensioners from a village near York who have been
left to care for his 13-year-old daughter, have taken up their son's
long battle to seek better treatment for the victims of Gulf War
syndrome.

They are suing the Ministry of Defence for more than £400,000, citing
clinical negligence over the care and treatment their son received
during the last 15 years of his life.

With legal backing they are also fighting to overturn a coroner's
decision that their son's inquest in December should not consider the
impact of his service in the Gulf.

Terry Walker was born into an army family. He grew up in Britain, Hong
Kong and Germany, the eldest child of a career soldier who rose from
the rank of private to major.

"As a boy, Terry was always mad about the Army," recalls his 67-year-
old mother. "He used to put on his Dad's army gear and run around the
garden playing soldiers. He made models of tanks and aeroplanes and
loved drawing military pictures."

Mr Walker was 17 when he joined up and by 1991 had been in the Army
for 14 years. He had served in the Falklands and worked for the bomb
disposal unit in Northern Ireland. He had always been "fit as a
fiddle". He played football and rugby and loved cycling and canoeing.
He was married with a young child. Then came the Gulf.

The 31-year-old lance corporal was there for only three months, from
January to April 1991, as a driver and storeman with the 11th Armoured
Workshop, which was attached to the Fourth Armoured Brigade. Based
initially in Saudi Arabia, he joined the push through the desert into
Iraq and then east to Kuwait. He never lost the smell of death that
lingered from clearing the human remains strewn along the road from
Kuwait City to Basra, the infamous Highway of Death.

Just over 18 months later, in November 1992, Mr Walker was invalided
out of the Army. He had returned to Germany, and later to Britain, a
changed man physically and mentally.

His family recall that they first noticed violent mood swings, sudden
outbursts of temper and the piercing headaches, which would have him
"bouncing his head off the wall". Skin rashes, aching joints and chest
infections soon followed.

About 53,000 British veterans saw service in the first Gulf conflict
of 1990-91. Some 5,000 to 6,000 later contracted mysterious
illnesses.

In the autumn of 1992 reports first appeared that a large number of US
Army veterans had suffered a variety of illnesses since serving in the
Gulf. In July 1993 the BBC reported that several hundred British Gulf
veterans had contacted a helpline complaining about extreme fatigue,
physical disabilities, skin rashes and a mysterious flu.

And so began the long - as yet unfinished - quest to establish Gulf
War syndrome as a recognised disease and to find out what caused it.
Theories ranged from the cocktail of vaccinations given to troops
before they were deployed to the use of organophosphate pesticides and
exposure to depleted uranium shells or chemical and biological
attacks.

It took until 1998 before Mr Walker was granted a 100 per cent war
disablement pension based on diagnosed conditions of post-traumatic
stress disorder, asthma, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome and
irritable bowel syndrome.

At this stage the MoD was still refusing to acknowledge the existence
of Gulf War syndrome.

To this day, no public inquiry has been held and it was not until late
2005 that the Government acknowledged the syndrome as an appropriate
medical label for a variety of symptoms that were causally linked to
service in the 1990-91 war.

To understand why the veterans, their families and campaigners feel
such anger at the callous complacency that characterised the MoD's
initial response to their concerns, and why the department is still
blamed for a "haggling, procrastinating" approach to individual cases,
one need look only at its treatment of Mr Walker.

In March he was told that his pension was being slashed by 60 per
cent, a reduction of £80 a week. He went to his parents in tears,
telling them that he and his children - Stefan, 17, and Kirsty, 13 -
faced "financial ruin". Seemingly the MoD had ruled that he deserved
less money because - being on a series of repeat prescriptions - he
had not been visiting his doctor regularly.

In April, on his 48th birthday, he began coughing blood and his
parents took him to York District hospital, where he spent five weeks
before being transferred to the Freeman's specialist cardiothoracic
centre. He died on June 2.

The MoD's response was to cancel his war disablement pension and his
army service pension, and demand the repayment of £245, a weekly
payment that had been made in advance and covered the week after his
death.

It said it would consider a contribution towards his funeral costs,
but wanted to await the results of his inquest to determine whether
his Gulf-linked illnesses were a contributory factor to his death.

Ted Walker, 68, said: "It's put us on the breadline. We've got a
teenage girl to look after and we're both pensioners. Our whole world
has been turned upside down and we decided the only option was to
fight, fight, fight."

He and his wife mounted a campaign to expose the MoD's actions. It has
enjoyed considerable success. The MoD waived the £245, paid for the
funeral, repaid the deductions in the war disablement pension and have
agreed to pay a monthly sum to the Walkers until Kirsty's 16th
birthday. But the Walkers are still going to court.

Mr Walker said: "We're not doing this just for Terry. It's for all the
other lads and all the other families who have gone through what we
have. All Terry wanted was to get proper help."

The youngest British soldier to be injured in Iraq left hospital to
pay tribute to his comrades.

Jamie Cooper, 19, lost the use of both legs when he was hit by two
mortar bombs in Basra. He later contracted MRSA twice in British
hospitals.

Mr Cooper was at the centre of a political storm two weeks ago when it
emerged that he had received only £57,000 in compensation.

Yesterday he joined 2,000 people in an act of remembrance at the
cenotaph in Bristol.

When asked if he had isolated any factors to western New York and the

to ME/CFS/FM as more common in western New York, as is Multiple

Why does Dr. Bell refer to this illness as ME/CFS/FM instead of ME/

Byrd, Sanders Secure Funds for Gulf War Illness Research --
11/09/2007
Senators Lead Effort on Behalf of Estimated 175,000 Affected Gulf War
Vets

Washington, DC - U.S. Senators Robert C. Byrd, D-West Virginia, and
Bernie
Senders, I-Vermont, applauded the Senate’s passage of a $10,000,000
investment
in research to combat Gulf War Illness. Byrd and Sanders led the
effort to
include the funding in the Fiscal Year 2008 Department of Defense
Appropriations legislation, which cleared the Senate on November 9th.

“As recent research has further demonstrated, an alarming number of
Gulf War
veterans continue to suffer serious ailments as a result of exposure
to
toxic materials during the Persian Gulf War,” said Byrd. “It is our
moral
responsibility to help those who are suffering as a result of
illnesses contracted
while serving our nation. We can and must do more to find treatments
and
cures for these serious ailments.”

“Over 175,000 veterans are still suffering from a poorly understood
set of
illnesses related to their service in the first Gulf War,” said
Sanders. “
After years of denial and resistance from the Defense Department and
the VA, we
are finally beginning to see some promising research that could help
our ill
service members. This research funding means that we are keeping faith
with
those who so honorably served our country and who deserve real
treatment and a
government that lives up to its promise to care for those that wear
our
uniform.”

The complex of symptoms commonly known as “Gulf War Illnesses (GWI)”
-
widespread pain, cognitive impairment, and persistent fatigue in
conjunction with
diverse other symptoms and abnormalities - are associated with service
in
the Southwest Asia theater of operations in the early 1990s during the
Persian
Gulf War. Byrd and Sanders’ efforts are consistent with the
Pentagon’s
historical commitment to finding treatments and cures for the
estimated 175,000
Gulf War veterans affected -- roughly a fourth of those who served.

The provision authorizes $10 million in funding for Gulf War
Illnesses
research to be conducted by the US Army Medical Research and Materiel
Command’s
Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP)
(http://cdmrp.army.mil/aboutus.htm)., which last year initiated a
promising pilot program to
identify treatments and diagnostic tests for Gulf War illnesses.

The following Veterans Service Organizations support the Byrd/Sanders
provision:
* American Legion
* Veterans of Foreign Wars
* Disabled American Veterans
* Paralyzed Veterans of America
* National Vietnam and Gulf War Veterans Coalition
* Vietnam Veterans of America
* AMVETS
* Veterans of Modern Warfare

Gulf War Illness Facts

Three new studies recently released by a team from Boston University,
VA,
and the Army have added to the compelling body of recent research
showing that
these illnesses are serious neurological conditions resulting from
toxic
exposures during the war.

Ill veterans with five or more symptoms showed a loss of brain mass in
MRI
scans of areas related to learning and memory, and also performed
significantly worse on objective learning and memory tests.

Veterans exposed to low levels of nerve gas following the destruction
of a
major Iraqi arms depot at Khamisiyah, Iraq, showed a loss of brain
white
matter and poor performance on motor coordination tests equivalent to
aging 20
years.

Previous studies have shown that Gulf War veterans have double the
rate of
ALS found in other veterans, and that veterans potentially exposed at
Kamisiyah have double the expected rate of brain cancer deaths.

Current and future American military forces, as well as civilians, are
also
at risk of similar exposures and will benefit from the research
supported
through this funding.

Drug abuse, incarceration, unexplained illnesses, chronic fatigue
syndrome, gastrointestinal symptoms, skin diseases, fibromyalgia, and
chronic pain may also be associated with the stresses of being in a
war, but the evidence to support these links is weaker. For other
health problems and adverse effects that the committee reviewed, the
data are lacking or contradictory; the committee could not determine
whether links between these ailments and deployment-related stress
exist.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Legion
welcomes the findings of an Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on
Deployment Related Stress scheduled to be released on Nov 14.

"In view of the serious and widespread impact of stress on the health
of military personnel who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan, this
focus on the health effects of stress is timely and important," said
Marty Conatser, national commander of the 2.7 million-member American
Legion. "However, it is equally important to distinguish between
current deployments and the 1991 Gulf War."

The environmental conditions of the 1991 Gulf War were different from
other wars, including current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Troops serving in the current Iraq war have been subject to long
deployments, and many have experienced serious injuries and
psychological trauma. A significant number have been affected by long-
term psychological problems, most prominently post-traumatic stress
disorder (PTSD).

In contrast, the 1991 Gulf War was brief -- just 100 hours of ground
fighting -- with remarkably few casualties. Most troops were not in
combat areas and did not experience serious trauma. As a result,
relatively few were affected by PTSD or other psychiatric conditions.

The 1991 Gulf War gave rise to a different type of health problem,
however. About 25 percent of Gulf War veterans have been affected by
the condition known as Gulf War veterans' illness. It is a complex of
multiple physical symptoms -- typically including chronic headaches,
memory problems, widespread pain, and other abnormalities -- that
cannot be explained by familiar diagnoses. This condition appears to
be unique to Gulf War service; it has not been documented in studies
of veterans who served in Bosnia or the current Iraq War.

Consistent findings from multiple research studies indicate that Gulf
War illness is not the result of combat or psychological factors, as
some have stated. Evidence points, instead, to hazardous substances
encountered by troops during the 1991 Gulf War. These include, most
prominently, a group of chemical neurotoxins to which many veterans
were exposed.

According to Dr. Lea Steele, Scientific Director of the federal
Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses, "In years
past, it was common for government officials and healthcare providers
to speculate that Gulf War veterans' illness was caused by stress.
This view has not been supported by the many studies that have now
assessed Gulf War veterans' illness in relation to events of the 1991
Gulf War. Our committee's detailed review of these studies found no
connection between combat and Gulf War veterans' illness, and that
Gulf War veterans' illness was not caused by psychological stress. We
do know that in some situations, psychological trauma and stress can
cause long-term problems. But the data are very clear that this does
not explain Gulf War veterans' illness."

The American Legion was founded in 1919 on the four pillars of a
strong national security, veterans affairs, Americanism, and patriotic
youth programs. The Legion's 2.7 million wartime veterans work for the
betterment of their communities through more than 14,000 posts across
the nation.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Military Personnel Who Serve in War Zones Face Increased Risk for
Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Alcohol Abuse, and Marital and Family
Conflict, IOM Report Confirms

WASHINGTON — Military service in a war zone increases service members'
chances of developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), other
anxiety disorders, and depression, says a new report from the
Institute of Medicine. Serving in a war also increases the chances of
alcohol abuse, accidental death, and suicide within the first few
years after leaving the war zone, and marital and family conflict,
including domestic violence, said the committee that wrote the report
at the request of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, which asked
for a comprehensive analysis of the scientific and medical evidence
concerning associations between deployment-related stress and long-
term, adverse effects on health.

Drug abuse, incarceration, unexplained illnesses, chronic fatigue
syndrome, gastrointestinal symptoms, skin diseases, fibromyalgia, and
chronic pain may also be associated with the stresses of being in a
war, but the evidence to support these links is weaker. For other
health problems and adverse effects that the committee reviewed, the
data are lacking or contradictory; the committee could not determine
whether links between these ailments and deployment-related stress
exist.

Although the report cannot offer definitive answers about the
connections between many health problems and the stresses of war, it
is clear that veterans who were deployed to war zones self-report more
medical conditions and poorer health than veterans who were not
deployed. Those who were deployed and have PTSD in particular tend to
report more symptoms and poorer health, the committee found. PTSD
often occurs in conjunction with other anxiety disorders, depression,
and substance abuse; its prevalence and severity is associated with
increased exposure to combat.

A persistent obstacle to obtaining better
evidence that would yield clearer answers is lack of pre- and post-
deployment screenings of physical, mental, and emotional status. The
U.S. Department of Defense should conduct comprehensive, standardized
evaluations of service members' medical conditions, psychiatric
symptoms and diagnoses, and psychosocial status and trauma history
before and after they deploy to war zones. Such screenings would
provide baseline data for comparisons and information to determine the
long-term consequences of deployment-related stress. In addition,
they would help identify at-risk personnel who might benefit from
targeted intervention programs during deployment — such as marital
counseling or therapy for psychiatric or other disorders — and help
DOD and VA choose which intervention programs to implement for
veterans adjusting to post-deployment life.

The study was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Sciences, the Institute of Medicine provides independent, objective,
evidence-based advice to policymakers, health professionals, the

Congress Breaks Without Passing War Spending Bill

Excerpt:

As they have all year, Senate Democrats failed to muster the votes to
consider a proposal to condition further spending on a timeline for
withdrawing troops. The $50-billion bill, which narrowly passed the
House on Wednesday, failed by seven votes.

And Republicans in the narrowly divided chamber fell short of a
majority for their alternative proposal to send President Bush $70
billion without restrictions.
