Hello--I'm new to this. Does anyone have small hard lumps in their muscles?
Mine are mostly on the top of my thighs. They seem to be smaller when I feel
better and more prominent when I am sicker. No Dr. has been able to identify.
Apparently they are concerning. Aren't painful. Seem firmly attached to
muscle. Three or four on one leg and two on the other. Sowhere else on my
body. These are not tender points, and I'm told are not swollen lymph nodes.
??? Please reply my E-mail. Thankyou--Wendy

I am a massage therapist, have the lumps the size of bb's and I massage them
away. Take your thumb or forefinger and press on the knot as hard as you can
stand. While the knot is pushed in rotate your finger to massage it. Repeat
this 2 more times. Each time you should be able to push the bb in further. Only
do it 3 times as more might bruise you. You will be surprised how you feel
after!

Hugs =)

Hi!

I have lumps in both legs ..about 3 inches above the knee cap. It is
quite large on my right leg and just starting on the left leg. I also
have small hard lumps on the inside of both ankles. The rheumatologist
said it is related to the FM

Whoa, Wendy,
Before you go trying to mush the living daylights out of these
little lumps, you need to check a couple of things. First, put
you hand over the spot where the lump is. Is it warmer than the
rest of your leg? Or colder? (Mine usually are larger than a
BB, by the way.)

Okay, now, if there is a temperature difference there are tow
things to do. If it is warmer--Don't mush or rub or push on it.
It could be a benign blood clot and if you just keep it warm it
will probably take care of itself. If it is in the back of your
calves (lower legs), you need to see a doctor, especially if it
is hot and read in the area.

If the area is cold to the touch, then you need to warm it up.
That may take care of the problem. Getting it warm will increase
the blood flow to the area.

If you have to sit for any length of time and can't put your feet
up, you need to remember to rock them and pump them heel to toe
and back so that the blood will flow and not pool in your legs.

Now if the areas are neither hot nor cold, then it could really
help to use accupressure with a tennis ball on the area to see if
this will get them to release. (Don't like the feel of a bristly
tennis ball on your legs--slip the tennis ball into a sock. This
way the ball is covered and it won't roll away from you
easily--like we need to be chasing errant tennis balls
anyway--lol.)

Hope this helps. Take care of you.

Did your rheumy say why this is related to FM? I don't have them but it would
be scary to start feeling lumps. What are they?

Dear Group,
I have had lumps on my inner thighs, and on my arms. These all feel like fatty
tissue, and are attached to muscles, ligaments, etc. Mine vary from BB size to
marble size. I first noticed the thigh lumps, many years ago. Sometimes they are
sore, mostly not. There is a condition called Durkham's SP? disease, and it is
described as 'fatty deposits'.
I don't worry about them because I've had them so long. However, I noticed a
'different' type of mass, down from the armpit, on my ribs, that I knew was
different. It was removed, and totally benign. So, watch for something that feels
new to youThis, incidentally was the operation where I asked, and got, anaesthesia
through a needle in my arm. Some mixture of morphine, Demerol. etc. Great! Woke in
the operating room, fuzzy, but happy. No struggle to come out of general
anaesthsia. It's the way to go, when possible.

I've got hard lumps all through my muscles! My MT says they mostly feel
like scattered sesame seeds, but they get as big as grapes. There are some
that seem to always be there, others wax and wane depending on how I feel.
Some of them aren't painful, but most of them are.

I also have transient multiple BB sized hard lumps in my thighs. They are more
niticable if I am in a flare, and fade away on good days. Cannot do the hard
push, too painful, but gentle masage, warmth, and glentl stretching does help
me.
