is Dr. Devin Starlanyl a real m.d.?

in her book, Fibro and Chronic MPS, a survival manual she's listed as Devin
Starlanyl, M.D. in introduction, p. 3. it says "neither devin... nor.... **are
practicing physicians**....

so is she a doc but can't practice due to the fibro? or is the m.d. some
other title than doctor? or did she get medical degree as she studied up on
fibro to learn about her disease? i'm confused. will ask on her site, but
wanted to ask here too. tessie

Yes she is a "real" MD but is unable to work at
her profession because of her FM. Mary Ellen
Copeland is a Social Worker (I thinkj and not a
doctor. In the blue nook, I believe she gives more
personal infprmation about her former career. I
would think that her fibromyalgia work keeps her
pretty busy. She does mention ER work somewhere
but that may have been in letters on Fibrom-L. So
she ismoe than "just" a researcher. BTW, her site
has more new stuff on it, including info for
caregivers.

Hi Joan, I can't remember where I got this information, but I do believe
that Dr. Devin is now living and running a clinic in the southern part of
New Hampshire, can't remember the town. I hope to go in person this fall and
visit. Will let you all know what happens.

Dr. Starlanyl is an MD... she's a "real" doctor, but wasn't a
practicing physician--she didn't see patients or work out of a
hospital--at the time the book was published. I'm not 100% sure, but I
think she's now practicing again.

Yes, she is a real doctor and is alive! She has moved to New Hampshire and
sees patients now.
Sorry I just read my own post and it sounds like "she is now living" as in I
just gave her life! I am having a bad day today due to more sinus
headaches - fibro fog always hits me the worse during a flare!
Laughing at myself and my inability to communicate (or it is just my own
lack of understanding the typed word!) ROTFLMAO

I can't remember (gee, now *that* is a phrase used a lot on this NG, huh?)
if she only has FM, or there is more to it. . . but the fact that she is an
MD
with FM (and perhaps more) makes her an excellent source of information.

Let's face it. If all those doctors who have told us that "it is all in your
head"
had to live with this stuff, then A) they never would've said the above,
B) they'd bust their humps trying to get some relief, and C) our worlds
would be MUCH happier places.

I might be wrong, but it was my understanding that it was after Devin started
speaking out about Fm that it began to have some credibility....basically
because she IS a doctor.

Yup and a couple of other doctors that have--Mark
Pelligrino and Tietlebaum are two I remember. BTW,
Devin has FM and MPS and the new "Mauve Manual" is
great, too.

to (study and paper references) plus tips for us.
I just borrowed it from the library and had to
wait 3 weeks for it so I guess I have to return it
on time (no renewals) and buy my own. It is
purple.

She has also written a "fun" book--a science
fiction novel starring folks with FM. Sounds
delightful. Remember Heinlein's Waldos for
myasthenia gravis patients? This is how diseases
get understood--better than non-fiction which has
to look "balanced" . Guess Chatelaine has given up
cuz I didn't see any fibromyalgia article that
Rona Maynard promised.
