ok folks, i learned the hard way..don't let them go untreated...had to go to
ER yesterday, cuz my throat was swelling up, having hard time
breathing/swallowing..eyes started turning yelloow....doc says Major sinus
infection!!! nodes by my tonsils swollen & hard...feel like infection thru
my whole head <argggghh>

so now it's 2 weeks of antibiotics, and 3 days of a decongestant pill...lots
of water & juice..and i think i might get some sleep cuz the decongestant
makes me drowsy <fingers crossed>

oh, & if you are paying cash for your meds, make sure your doc gives you the
least expensive effective treatment...i had to have the AB script changed
cuz Biaxin is about $8 a Pill!!! that wouldve been over $200 for 2 weeks
script(28 pills)!!!! so back to the ER to get it changed...now for E-myacin
it was much more affordable to get 56 pills for $22...sure helps the
pocketbook <g>

anyone ever take Entex?? it has guifenisin in it...just wondering about
side efeects the doc didn't tell me about ( he said 3 days worth 'shouldn't'
give me side effects, but we know how that goes)

Hi, you are right, sinus infections should be taken seriously. I hope you
feel better soon!

A few years ago I had a long bout of recurring infections of various
kinds, including sinus. I think that problem often goes with FM. At one
point a doctor prescribed vitamin e to prevent the recurrance of a
mastitis infection. Well, _all_ the recurring infections went away! Of
course it is no guarantee, but I do think it helps. I also use a saline
spray for my nose, especially in the winter.

Take care

Hi,

The best drug I used for sinus infection was Zithromax; two tablets
first day, and then one tablet for 5 more days. Much more efficient that
repeat courses of antibiotics. Apparently, it's one of the cadillacs of
antibiotics for soft tissue infections.

When I feel the sinus going haywire I can usually catch the problem
early. I found an herbal asthma/bronchitis preparation helps a lot with
that.

Cheers!

yup, i like the vit.E ...i do it a lot in winter..plus been doing salt water
irrigating..but the antibiotics are getting the gunk out <g> i shouldn't
have just put ut off as a Fibro thing and thinking i could home treat it..it
just kept building up in the sinuses above the eyes, and the irrigating
wasn't getting to it..it had gotten that bad <argh>
but getting some energy back, and i'm not as dizzy..still not seeing quite
right , but I'm definitely on the mend.. and my throat's not closing up on
me anymore either.

Hi,

The herbal prep I use is called Respiractin. It has all kinds of
stuff in it. I have a link to their web site on my own page, at
http://www.brunnet.net/terrier/cp.html . Click on the sneezing dude to
be taken to the manufacturer's site.

I've used this product for years, buying the refill bottle instead of
the smaller bottle (it has a 2nd opening with a dosing/measuring cup).
The bottle can be kept in the fridge. I like that it's non-sedating.

I take a teaspoon a couple of times a day. In fact, I used this
product on a Cairn terrier who presented with inhalant dermatis.
Excellent results with him.

Cheers!

here's what's in it (from their homepage)...<snip>Why is RespirActin® so
effective?

Among the ingredients in RespirActin® are rosemary, sage, cloves, cinnamon,
chamomile, thyme, spearmint, witch hazel, juniper, black cumin seed . . .
notice how aromatic this blend is! Just reading the list creates a phantom
aroma in your mind, and the relationship between the aromaticity and
medicinal activity is no accident. These aromatic herbs have clear, direct
effects on our respiratory and digestive systems. While not as fragrant,
other herbs in the blend provide synergistic benefits including soothing
mucilage, and astringent, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.

After examining and cross-referencing the hundreds of phytochemicals present
in these herbs, and a very consistent pattern emerges. Each herb in
RespirActin® is a source of biochemically or pharmacologically active
compounds. Here's a sample of some compounds and their activities. Listed
are only three compounds, and three herbs that are representative "agents"
for a particular activity. All the compounds listed have numerous
activities; for example at last 12 different ones have antioxidant activity,
and every herb in RespirActin® contains botanical antioxidants.

RespirActin's Active Ingredients ACTIVITY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS HERB
antioxidant romariquinone, epicatechin, eugenol rosemary, juniper,
cinnamon
anti-bronchitic borneol, thymol, 1,8 cineole thyme, sage, spearmint
anti-asthmatic thymoquinone, terpinen-4-ol, nigellone cinnamon, cumin,
juniper
anti-allergenic linalool, ellagitannin, chamazulene clove, ginseng,
chamomile
anti-inflammatory beta-sitosteral, menthol, alpha-pinene cumin,
damiana, spearmint
antihistamine maslinic acid, apigenin, quercitin clove, sage,
chamomile
expectorant borynl acetate, 1,8 cineole, arbutin damiana, rosemary,
cinnamon
5-lipoxygenase inhibitor* quercitin, kaempferol, camosol witch-hazel,
fenugreek, marshmallow

* 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors selectively inhibit enzyme systems that are
responsible for producing leucotrienes. Production of these biochemicals is
a major factor in keeping inflammatory conditions running. By inhibiting
leucotriene production, only 5-lipoxygenase inibitors help prevent both
chronic ans acute inflammation without the side effects of steriods or
non-steriodal anti-inflammatory medications.<snip>

I don't think i could spend $49.99 for 32 oz tho....very expensive.and do
they have a money back guarantee?? didn't see one mentioned on website....

glad you find relief with it, tho
