A Chinese immigrant has accused a wealthy Upper East Side couple of
luring her into their Fifth Avenue home with promises of a better life -
only to force her into years of manual labor, sexual abuse and even
extortion.
Hongxia Wang of Flushing, Queens, claims fibromyalgia doctor Derek
Enlander and his now-deceased diamond-dealer wife, Caron Enlander,
promised her $80 an hour for spa treatments and massages when she was
making just $45 a day at a nail and hair salon. But instead of paying
Wang, the Enlanders subjected her to years of forced labor and sexual
abuse that lasted until 2011, according her Manhattan federal-court
lawsuit. In addition to being a 'slave' who washed their dishes, cleaned
their boat and made their lunches, Wang says the Enlanders also coerced
her into sex, the suit says. Wang claims she was Caron's lover from 2000
to 2003. Caron died in 2006, and Derek Enlander began forcing himself on
her starting in 2007, the lawsuit says. Wang, 57, is seeking damages in
an amount to be determined a trial.
'Dr. Enlander refutes the allegations and we are confident he will be
vindicated,' said his lawyer, Tom Mullaney.
Wang says she stayed with the Enlanders despite the abuse because they
kept promising to pay her the money they owed her and to help her obtain
a green card.

An Ulster-born doctor has been accused of sexually abusing a Chinese
immigrant and forcing her into years of manual labour at his flat on New
York's swanky Fifth Avenue.
A lawsuit has been filed against Dr Derek Enlander by Hongxia Wang (57),
a former beauty parlour employee, according to the New York Post
newspaper. She alleges that the wealthy Belfast-born doctor and his late
diamond dealer wife Caron promised they would pay Ms Wang $80 an hour
for beauty treatments - but instead, the couple subjected her to more
than a decade of forced labour and sexual abuse in the years from 2000
to 2011. Ms Wang alleges that the couple treated her as a 'slave',
forcing her to clean their boat and prepare meals for them, as well as
being coerced into sex. The former nail and hair salon worker claims she
was Mrs Enlander's lover until 2003, and that in 2007 - after Mrs
Enlander died from cancer - Dr Enlander began to force himself on her.
She is seeking damages, with the amount to be determined at trial,
according to the New York Post report.
Dr Enlander's lawyer Tom Mullaney told the newspaper: 'Dr Enlander
refutes the allegations and we are confident he will be vindicated.'
A former pupil of Belfast Royal Academy, Dr Enlander trained at medical
school in Dublin and at Stanford University in the USA during the 1980s.
He specialises in the treatment of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), and
has built a considerable international reputation in the field.
According to his website, Dr Enlander is a former Physician in Waiting
to the Royal Family and to senior members of the British Government.The
ME specialist is also on the faculty of Mount Sinai Medical School and
is an attending physician at Mount Sinai Medical Centre, New York.
In 2012, Dr Enlander gave a lecture at the launch of the ME Alliance
Northern Ireland. Around 400 ME patients, carers and medical
professionals attended the lecture, at which Dr Enlander talked about
his clinical practice and his research with ME patients at Mount Sinai
Medical Centre.

I'm glad I never went to see him orgave him a penny.I always wonder about these high-priceddoctors with fancy offices.

This is a scam and is in the NY Post a newspaper that writes about scandals.I know way to many people who have seen Dr. Enlander and he was not a high priced ME , CFS doctor.He has been closing his office down for three years ...he helped and still helps many peopleMeghan

Well, I just called his office and it's open and asking people ifthey want to make an appointment.
Also, it's not only in the NY Post, but in English and Irishpress, too.
I'll wait and see what happens in the lawsuit.

Dr. Enlander office is open however other doctors are taking new patients there.He sees already established patients. The last three weeks or more he is seeing patients sparingly.Of course office will say they are open. Other doctors working there
