In a post recently sent to me, a person mentioned seeing a clinical
ecologist. I have several questions about this.
1) What is a clinical ecologist and what does one do?
2) How does one find a clinical ecologist (can't find any in the Yellow
Pages!)?
3) Once one does find a c.e., how do you know the person is legit.? Are
they licensed?
4)Has anyone reading this post benefitted from the services of a c.e.?
I'm tired of allergists, family practitioners, and ENTs who pooh-pooh any
thing that can't explain or cure. I'm ready to try just about anything!
But I don't know who or what to trust!
Please advise!

You can find a clinical ecologist by contacting:
The A merican Acadey of Environmental Medicine, 4510 W. 89th St.,
Prairie Village, KS 66207. (913)642-6062
You can find out about what they do from Doris Rapp's, IS THIS YOUR CHILD?
(covers adults, too) or THE WHOLE WAY TO ALLERGY RELIEF AND PREVENTION, by
Jacqueline Krohn. They can test you to see what your
allergies and chemical sensitivities are, and advise you accordingly.
They do intra-dermal testing, just under the skin, to create a wheal. If
the
wheal grows, you are allergic/sensitive to that substance. They continue
until they find a neutralizing dose that cuts off the reaction.
If possible, find one who uses preservative-free antigens. Others are
preserved
in glycerine, to which you could become allergic if you use it regularly,
or
phenol, which is a nasty chemical which could also cause you problems.
You can also get information from The Human Ecology Study Group ,
which publishes a newsletter. Contact Vilma Kinney, 3217 N. Peoria,
Peoria, Illinois 61603. I have heard that there are some good clinical
ecologists in Canada, but I don't know where.
If you want to know about more books, etc. E-mail me.
