Please can anyone advise on the choice between Helicoil and V-coil thread
repair kits/inserts?

The repair is M6x1 on a light alloy casing with limited wall thickness, I've
tried numerous google searches trying to find technical specs for both makes
but they seem to be keeping these a closely guarded secret!

Obviously I need at the very least to know the tap OD to judge clearance
within the limited wall thickness - or if they're the same, recommendations
of which make is the better.

Many thanks in advance.

sorry for the late reply.....

IME coil type inserts require the least amount of oversizing to
execute a repair but I am not familiar with V-coils

no secret, they want you to ahve the design info you need to use their
prodcuts

Farnell told me they no longer stock Helicoil and some other tool suppliers
pages are listing it as "no longer manufactured", V-coil seems to be cheaper
anyhow so the choice looks a lot simpler now.
