i went to yahoo just to vote against it (see below) but after checking
it out, it's really not that awful, as hyperfiction.

when i revise my AI faq/pages, Chris, I will include MISTIC as a
fascinating case-study in the wrong way to do AI. it reminds me of
Dalton (the inventor of atomic theory) who compiled detailed
meteorological records every day, thinking that posterity would
find them invaluable. (nothing so far ;^/

Chris also seems to have his own newsgroup-- alt.mckinstry.pencil-dick
though i don't know what for.
my own negative feelings go back to the Loebner list, where he
bragged he had an entry that would soon take the grand prize, and
sent me sample dialogs that i immediately found suspect. (he's
never entered, as far as i know.) he offered me the program
if i'd sign a non-disclosure, and when i turned down the offer he
turned savagely against me, rather mysteriously...

This is all very similar to my experience. Upon criticizing his
project, he started posting dejanews statistics on my net usage,
criticizing me for the low percentage of my postings that were
original rather than responses. A typical ad hominem response
from a class A jackass.
