Garden City, Idaho -- We have more on a story we brought you Thursday night
about a Garden City couple accused of lewd conduct with an underage girl.
We now know much more about this couple from police and prosecutors, who
explain how they were able to befriend and molest a 15-year-old girl.
"They are alleged to have had, both of them, to have had intimate relations
with a 15-year-old girl," said Shelley Armstrong, Ada County Deputy
Prosecutor.
It's a crime that has two people charged with lewd conduct with an minor,
and it allegedly happened in a Garden City trailer park.
One of the people arrested is 22-year-old Beth Kaesemeyer who, according to
Armstrong, had developed a relationship with the victim at work.
"Kaesemeyer worked at McDonalds as a manager and this 15-year-old girl was
an employee there," explained Armstrong.
Armstrong says in mid October, Kaesemeyer took advantage of her position,
not only as a boss but a supposed friend, and brought the girl to her home
on 51st street, gave her alcohol, and then molested her.
During the incident, Kaesemeyer's boyfriend, 23-year-old Ralph Cripe
allegedly showed up. It's his actions while at the home that also led to
his arrest.
"They each were intimate with the 15 year old while she was under the
influence and took cell phone pictures allegedly of the intimate acts,"
Armstrong said.
Police have since confiscated the cell phone and a computer, so additional
charges involving child pornography could still be added to the list.
Fortunately, they were notified by the child's parents, who told police
they originally had no problem with their daughter hanging out with someone
several years older than her.
"Because she was a manager at McDonald's, the parents reported to police
that they believed it was fine for her to be friends with this 20-year-old
gal," said Armstrong.
She says it appears this was only a one-time incident, but it's a crime
that brings with it some heavy consequences.
For the victim, an event from which she may never fully recover. For the
suspects, perhaps a very lengthy prison sentence.
"The maximum penalty for lewd conduct in the state of Idaho is life in
prison," said Armstrong.
During the probable cause hearing that occurred Thursday, prosecutors told
the judge that the couple had admitted to committing the crime.
Kaesemeyer allegedly told them about how it occurred, but said she thought
the victim was closer to 17 years old.
Cripe, on the other hand, told police he knew she was 15, but wasn't
concerned about it since she was very mature for her age.
Their preliminary trial is scheduled for Dec. 20.
