Where Can I find LaTex?
Which Platform?
If its Windoze then you should try MiKTeX which you can find at:
http://www.snafu.de/~cschenk/miktex/ Its a pretty big download, but well
worth it. There are plenty of mirror sites about, just see the above link.
If you are on Windows then you will also want to check out WinEdt at
http://home.istar.ca/~winedt/. Its a really cool editor for LaTex.
You'll also need a dvi previewer and GhostScript/GhostView to view and print
the output. All of the info is on the links above.
If its Linux then it comes with most distributions (as TeTex), and Lyx is a
great editor. Otherwise visit Sunsite.unc.edu (and mirrors) for the
distribution.
Hope that sets you in the right direction? If not drop me an email at
tibe...@tinwood.demon.co.uk and I will try and help.
BTW, LaTeX is *really* good at formatting maths!
Incidentally, on Windows Scientific Notebook is meant to be good
(http://www.scinotebook.com/)
Cheers

I dont know much about LaTeX. i know that it's a set of additional macros
for the Knuth's original typesetting program TeX (pronounced as tech). I
really think that before you go on to LaTeX, you should get familiar to TeX.
ive got some useful files for learning TeX:
http://www.physic.ut.ee/~markko/TeX/
there are:
gentle.dvi - a real good book
gentle.tex - source code for that book. here you see what is proffessional
TeXing. acionally it is very helpful to see source and
compilation at the same time.
texcook.dvi - very helpful, includes tables of special characters.
of course you need a dviviewer, such as YAP in MikTeX packet. actionally the
best dvi driver i hav eber seen is dviwin.
you can get the latest MikTeX version from
ftp://ftp.funet.fi/pub/TeX/CTAN/systems/win32/miktex/1.11/complete.exe
or from its mirror sites from all over the world.
its about 16M in size
Welcome to TUG! (TeX Users Group)
platforms.
under windows i would use TextPad+MikTeX+dviwin
under unix i would use joe+tex+xdvi/dvips
