There has been a debate going on for some time now with regards to PUMA and
TAGB.

I have seen many many posts across the internet, even on
www.itf-information.com newsgroups, on this topic.

I am an ex Taekwondo IMPACT practicioner, and over 7months ago joined PUMA.
I have also trained with TAGB, and many other affiliations such as WTF and
Pegasus.

All in all, over my 12years of Taekwondo, and now being an instructor, I can
never argue for or against affiliations. What I have learned through the
years, is times change and so do peoples attitudes towards each other and
themselves.

As I have changed from Instructor to Instructor, all that remained important
to me what the founder of Taekwon-Do, the Late General Choi Hong Hi IX Dan.
You must follow the spirit of PoEun, who wrote the famous peom... I will not
server a second master, though I be crucified a 1000 times...

Wether it be TAGB, PUMA, IMPACT, VISION, BUTF and so on, thier goal is to
teach the Taekwon-do of the founder, as long as it is your will to learn
that, then all you must choose is whoose mentaility best fits your style of
learning and acceptance in life. Remember we all set our own standards, and
we all choose to live in surrounding that best fit those standards, and in
choosing an affiliation this rule remains.

I believe that Richie's Instructor is Mr. Don. Deedigan V Degree, a very
nice man indeed, and a very valued member of PUMA.

I trust you did well at the competition, perhaps I had the pleasure of being
referee at your ring.

Taekwon..

Mr. Don. Deedigan V Degree is T.A.G.B not P.U.M.A.

Hello!

Yeh actually my instructors are Mr Ray Gayle VI Dan and Mr Mark
Ogborne V Dan. And yeh they are fantastic instructors! =)

I'm actually pretty neutral in terms of any rivaly any of the TKD may
have in the UK =) I had originally trained with the TAGB for about 6
years before I took a break from TKD in general and it was great (i
mean the TAGB not the break). There are a few differences in the way
that PUMA is being run now. Some Tang Soo Do clubs have joined PUMA
and also a couple of kick boxing clubs too! With the PUMA TKD there is
the option of learning some Bo staff patterns which I think may have
originated from Tang Soo Do martial art (I think it's quite similar to
TKD.. does anyone have any more information on Tang Soo Do?). Also the
tournaments are starting too look a bit more interesting as other
similar but not quite the same martial arts are being added into the
mixture.

The PUMA Summer Championship that me and my brother participated in
was great! Had to be one of the best that I've been to. I've been away
from tournments for a while so I don't know what kinda of standards
tournments are nowadays. But there was more variety than there used to
be. Events like musical patterns were pretty cool! Allows for martial
artists to make up their own patterns and demonstrate some moves that
are not usually seen in the basic patterns. The Junior were really
good!

There were also Bo Staff patterns as well which were pretty cool to
watch. The forms were different to how I remember. Instead of having 5
judges who gave you a score, two martial artists were asked to perform
their forms side by side and the best out of the two went through to
the next round and it contiuned knockout tournament style.

There were two other TKD organisations at the PUMA Champs doing a
demonstration which one nice =) They were the squad for Bytomic TKD
and Evolution TKD (I believe both of which used to be part of the TAGB
as well) that left around the same time or just after PUMA was formed.
There was an exhibition team tournment from PUMA, Bytomic and
Evolution and it was really good! Great sparring to watch. It was
really good to see TDK people from other organisations there as well.

This was then followed up by the usual sparring and destruction.

Incidentally I got wasted in the tournament by an Evolution guy who
was in the exhibition squad heheh.. good experience though! (whereas
my brother got wasted by the Bytomic exhibition squad captian... that
looked a little more painful =P) but they were awesome! Luck of the
draw really! Could of had him i reckon! =]

A new introdution to the annual events was PUMA Day which just happend
last weekend. It was really cool. A free event with about 12 different
practical seminars going on throughout the day which was split up into
4 different areas (so you could only choose to attend a maximum of 3
seminars throughout the day =[). Things like the new ITF set sparing,
advanced sparing techniques, weapons training seminars done by Tang
Soo Do instructors (Bo staff and nunchuku), self defence seminars...
it was really cool! and it was all free! yay! with a few
demonstrations held at intervals.

I've only just joined PUMA and there seem to be a few more events
being organised than there used to be. I just missed out on a seminar
by Master Choi about a month or two ago and I'm kicking myself =(
would love to go to another one if he comes back again!

Tae Kwon! (jumps in the air, one arm rasied)

Richie
