George Cofield was an arrogant egotistical guy who thought
he knew more than his instructor (Mr. Minor) as a Green Belt.
So he left and opened up Tong Dojo. (Tong seemed like a good name to him,
because it sounded "Oriental") LOL :)
Anyway, Cofield was a tough bastard... Loved to fight, but
had LOUSY TECHNIQUE ! He didn't understand Karate...

totals. Where did you get these numbers from? If I recall correctly,
several people in this newsgroup have tried to get accurate records of
membership from each of the listed organizations, only to fail. I
guess you've got the inside track, eh?

What time is it? Well, that would depend on where you are located,

the post. As of now it it 6:11 pm EST.

that many of us find useful and interesting in
this newsgroup, even though it is anecdotal.
Hard facts are hard to come by, and subjective
views and stories like these are valuable.
On the other hand, you could probably support

As for Dalke's personal characteristics...It is true that he is a redneck:
crass, outspoken, often abrasive, sometimes downright rude. He is not PC. He
does not make nice.
But he keeps his promises, genuinely cares for his friends and his students,
does what he says, and says what he does. That's integrity, and it counts for
something in my book.

The first thing is that this is all inappropriate. You talk about this
all being a joke but in truth you use that to take people down. I think
that is sad. There is a differance between laughing with a person and
laughing at them. Sad, sad, sad!
You also attack people with almost no discernable facts.

anything but a stupid put down. I thought that most people after high
school went beyond this stage.
The stuff about Dalke. Give the man his due. He may not be humanitarian
of the year but he knows his karate. He spent a number of years as part
of the top level of US Shotokan people. That is an accomplishment that
no one on this group and very few of those in the JKA legacy will ever
equal. Would I hang out with the man and have a beer is a different
story.
You mention Legend Karate. I don't know who these people are and see no
relevence to anything here that might interest anyone in this group.
Same with Alex Sternberg.
We all have our shit that we could drag out in this forum but there is
something called decency. For as radical as Rob has been he has also
known the difference between shaking people up and dragging any personal
stuff out. Maybe read his posts a little, look for the line that he
walks and maybe try to walk it. This is why despite any disagreements
most of the people on this group can still respect Rob.
You on the other hand have not shown anything that can be respected.
Your just a sad pathetic brown-belt that can't get the maturity to move
up that one level. You drag all of your dirty laundry out for us to deal
with. I know your type, the ones with the brown belt that is frayed
farther than any black belt. The same type that hit a friend of mine in
a test during the bow before the start of Jiyu Ippon Kumite (caused a
shit load of stitches). Or the frayed brown belt I ran into New York who
had his head shave like grasshopper of "Kung Fu" fame. All of you
(frayed brown belts)seem to have some serious problems here and maybe
ought to seek professional help before coming to this group.

The internet is a powerful tool, and like most powerful tools, it has the
power to hurt those who use it carelessly. This often happens to new internet
users, who are used to the evironment of their personal computer, where almost
nothing they do can possibly have irreversible consequences. But now you are
using your computer to connect to REAL PEOPLE, and their reactions to what you
say and do are every bit as real as if this were all happening in person.
Other people (myself included) have learned this the hard way. You don't seem
to have learned it yet. Think about it this way, if you will:
Are the things you said in your profile the sorts of things you would say in
the dojo? To your boss? Your parents? No?
It is accessable to anyone with a computer, and the (negligable) skills
required to use an AOL account.

I am concerned with both. Language is monumentally important to any endevour.

In case you missed it, the use of the rather ridiculous title "Grand
Poohbah" is a concious effort at parody. Just what am I parodying? This is left
as an excercise for the student.

I wouldn't normally respond to this, but I find it especially ironic in light
of the fact that many of training partners habitually complain that my gi
is...well, shall we say 'somewhat less than april-fresh'?

You really want that black belt, don't you? It really burns you up to see
others pass that test and go on to better things...you feel like you're ready.
Dammit, you train a lot! Yeah, sure, you can't always make to the dojo every
week, and sometimes you're just too tired to give it your all...but you've
training a long time (well, it feels like a long time). Shouldn't that count
for something?
It would be nice, wouldn't it, not to have want it anymore? Not to have to
feel like a "junior"? To finally have the "respect" of all the kyu ranks, to
be able to exert the AUTHORITY that your experience deserves? To walk about
'correcting' everyone's technique, and knowing that all eyes are on you?
Wouldn't the girls be impressed? Hey, yeah, that's it...you could hit on all
the female white belts! Tell them how honesty is your biggest turn-on, and
pretend to be modest about your 'deadly skills'! They'd fall all over you!
