If I understand the pending legislation correctly, it will only apply
to online sellers with sales of at least $1 million per year. Probably
does not apply to most, if not all, of those who received the email.
I already hear rumblings of larger sellers who intend to cheat the
taxpayers by dividing their businesses up into separate entities in
order to come in under the $1M tripwire.
Implementation on sales sites with individual sellers may be
interesting, though. Will Amazon now have a mixture of sales tax/no
sales tax on the same item, depending on who you buy it from? Won't be
a problem for eBay since identical items are still different listings,
sufficiently confusing for "musicians" and cat owners.
