National Gluttony Day (Thanksgiving) is just around the corner.

Are you all ready to eat enough food to make yourself sick?

What a peculiar way to celebrate a bunch of 'aboriginals' saving
'Christian' settlers from starvation.

Eat and waste enough food to feed all the starving people in the
world for months (and that includes the approximately 6,000 children
who will die of starvation on National Gluttony Day.)

The heartless American Pigs deserve the illnesses associated
with over-eating rich foods that are epidemic in their ugly country.

Can you provide any links to official statistics for this?

Incidentally, why are you trying to throw this out as a guilt trip?
What's in it for you?

Sid is *the* official, in Sid's view. Sid believes no one but Sid.

I think he's on the right track in this. He has stopped believing
what others tell him. I have only one small constructive criticism.
Sid shouldn't believe what he tells himself either.

If he fixed that, he'd be OK in my book.

However, on the subject of how many people die of starvation every
day, I see lots of numbers bandied about; most of them are quite a bit
larger than Sid's. However, they all seem to be not much more than
guesswork. I really don't know if there are any scientifically
defensible statistics on the number of people who starve to death
daily.

Here are the best "official" stats I could find on the subject of
hunger.

And what homeless shelter will you be working at that day, oh self-
righteous one? I have one picked out. How about you? You don't have
to feed just yourself. You could use the holiday to do something
positive instead of just bitch at other people. But it is your life,
your choice, and your style. All of which seem pretty ugly from what
you post. It is a shame you can be so right about the waste and
inequity of food distribution and so useless about doing anything
about it other than try to make other people feel bad. Have you ever
tried using any of your opinions as a basis to help someone rather
than bitch them out? Ever?

I am working with a kid's group at hopefully getting them regularly
into the community table effort, not just this one holiday. (Anyone
with good spirit, wish me luck!) Also, as a family effort, we provide
a dinner for those we know who do not have family they can gather with
and share good cheer and thankfulness, as well as recognizing those in
need. Have you ever reached out to relieve another's loneliness
during the holidays? Leftovers are then carefully packed and shared
with a local shelter. If you do anything at all anywhere near that
positive, then you have some moral standing from which to speak.
Otherwise, you are the Internet equivalent of yet another raving
bitter hypocrite who finds it easier to criticize others than to
examine his own life and decisions.

What do you do besides complain and excoriate? Anything?

Luck? You don't need nostinkin luck...you da magick man. If anyones
spirit could get him through a job it is yours Storm.
Me, I have taken the 2 weeks before the Holiday and remained flat on
my back and in bed with bronchial flu to shore up my energy. I look
positively glowing with my pig snout. I also have learned what it
feels like to be waited on hand and foot by my Angel Children. Also
that laptops are weird.

Good on ya Storm.Who cares if we have a day for gluttony. Most days
people have barely enough for the day. Surely to cook a big turkey and
have few extra desserts is deserved by most American Families. Tough
times. Celebrations are the last thing people should cut out of the
budget.

Thanks. Things have been taking some serious downward trends here.
That is a good and needed reminder.

Ouch. Take care of yourself. That nasty gunk is just one of the
things that have been seriously challenging my household.

> I also have learned what it

Ain't it wonderful when the kids come through like that? There have
been a couple times lately in our household where the kids have come
through in generosity and sanity when the adults were beyond their
coping abilities. Being miserable, depressed, and also heart-warmed
beyond belief is an interesting and educational experience. Makes one
think one might have been successful as a parent. :-)

Making yourself miserable will not make people in misery any less
miserable. Adding deprivation helps no one.
Sharing in generosity is the only real answer I know. (Along with
some truly progressive politics, but that is a vastly different
discussion.) It helps to make yourself whole if you are going to make
others whole, but it is still easier just to belittle others than to
be positive or actually do something. It depends on how ready you are
to take the easy way out. You have reminded me that I usually do not
do that. Thanks again.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Share with somebody. After all, that's
what started the holiday in the first place, sharing.

Blessings & Prosperity to you and yours Storm and I mean that in the
most magickal way. You should see all the pretty spirits and powerful
ones that have gathered round me as I heal. I will be sure to *share*
them with you! Your heart is pure and your spirit indominible when it
comes to pagan passion. They your kind but still, the ups and downs in
this economy have taxed people completely.

They *like* your kind and I guess it is indomitable spirit? Oh I give,
I need another gallon of orange juice. Also if this has been trying to
attack your family..my kids got it from school right before Samhain.
Three weeks with intense high fevers I got it mildly but thought I was
then protected.

Wham Bam..wrong. Scary stuff. It follows no order. Hits harder in some
places then others but no matter, it can go from I am fine to gee,
possibly an IV may be needed,
Kids ran really high fevers,

my first clue was I was fine then sat down and within 15 minutes felt
like someone had dumped 6 feet of concrete on me. I could not
move, literally. Then a mild cough no fever went to um hmm I cannot
breathe. The thirst was insane. I drank more then normal but still
felt like my tongue was in the dessert and got so chilled I had to
have heated rice packs onme at all times. My heartbeat was affected
but like I said no fever. Dr swears Swine, I still think I trasformed
or mutated. I should check my toes for webs or my tongue to see if it
forked!

Okay I should go..hehe..but my point, if you have a housefull of kids,
it can be a long bumpy ride and yes, I actually thought to myself if
they are being this caring and helpful, they learned it from me and
that did feel really great.

They are weird right? I think it is using my finger as a mouse..seems
I don't know in violation of some personal space or something It also
throws my game off when I am playing with my fish on fishville..
Plus I spent two hours thinking a select part of me was running a
fever while the rest of me was not. I had a very hot crotch. I did not
know they got so hot and if I were a guy would think twice about
holding one in my lap without protective gear.

Sure you do. That's why you hide your identity, so that no one can
determine the truth or lack thereof of anything you say.

> You don't have to feed just yourself.

I don't eat any animal products at all. This is a thousand times more
helpful than a day at the foodbank. I consume a small fraction of the
food that an animal food consumer does, because they have to filter
good grains and legumes through animals. And I use a fraction of the
fresh water and energy and 1/35 as much arable land.

Another storm of sophistry from another American Asshole.

One of the reasons they are Assholes is that they can always
justify any crime at all. Like invading other people's countries
with their vicious uniformed terrorists and killing people there
and destroying their lives.

They make me sick. I am not reading any more of this scumbag's
rationalizations.

I don't believe a word he says, anyway. He used to try to convince
me that he was a magickal adept. I asked him to prove it.

He's as good a magician as he is a planetary citizen.

Which is to say that, not at all.

This is the kind of Asshole who gives Barak Obama a Nobel Peace
Prize while he's prosecuting a vicious and criminal war in a third
world country.

I hate to try to stuff any new information into your particular
mindset, but just to make the point to others, it is possible to bring
vegan food to a food sharing program. Amazing thought, isn't it? It
seemed you were completely unaware of that and using it as an excuse
not to be charitable while lecturing me about being a good planetary
citizen. Seemed hypocritical, but I am sure you were as sincere and
loving as you always are.

Oh yeah. Work gave me one to use when they use to fly me about the
country to help people. (Now I do it by coaching people at those
places over the phone or by remote consoles.) There is no way that
thing would ever go straight onto my lap unless I was stuck in a

So says Sid/Alan/Bruce/etc. Has anyone seen Sid/Alan/Bruce.etc.'s
demonstration of the truth of what *he* says?

It's great to be skeptical, but to be consistent, one should accept
the skepticism of others as applied to oneself. It's blatant
hypocrisy to hold others to a standard of evidence that one will not
meet oneself.

Yes, Americans are all assholes. And we all live in California within
15 minutes of the ocean. And we all eat lunch at Planet Hollywood. And
we are all vicious, war-mongering thugs who lie awake at night
thinking of justifications for our next round of invasions.

Listen to yourself. You've managed to demonize 300 million people, and
I am sure even the most social person has met not even a vanishingly
small percentage of that. So, if you are not an American (likely) you
are somehow assuming that we are all John Wayne and characterizing us
by the worst of our media (almost certainly). Grow up. If your
country's media was more enticing than ours, you would be watching
your own media. We conquered Europe by the media, not guns. I lived in
Germany for six years, so I have a pretty good handle on the mentality
of the common Joe overseas. I am almost positive you can't make the
same assertion.

Unfortunately, many vegetarians create a lot of noise pollution.

Evergreen, meat is tasty. Your body evolved eating meat in addition to
vegetable matter, as even a cursory look at your teeth in the mirror
will show.

In fact, if you pay an extra $1 per pound you can get a guarantee it
died in great pain. PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals.

Yup, the paradox of America. They have conquered the whole world with their
culture, yet a lot of them feel they must conquer the whole world by military
force. Which is *so* passe, been-there-done-that, as any European could tell
you.

And all that will be left are the smoking ruins of the American Empire, and
the vibrant, indefatigable American culture.

Afghanistan is known as the Destroyer of Empires: Kublai Khan,
Alexander the Great, the British Empire, the Soviet Empire.

And now the American Empire.

Good riddance. The planet is much better off without the
American Nightmare.

I understand that another dozen of their uniformed terrorists
were executed by Afghan freedom fighters in the last few days.

This is justice in action.

The American criminals want the world to believe that the Moslems
are trying to conquer them.

While it is obviously the Americans who are trying to conquer the
Moslems.

They think that we are as stupid as they are.

Sidbody's Improbable History. He just gets into the Way-Back Machine
and goes for a visit. Whatever story he comes back with, that's now
History.

Larry Niven classifies all time-travel stories as fantasies, not
science fiction, because fantasies don't depend on any specific rules
governing reality whereas science fiction must conform to the actual
rules or it's not "science" fiction. So time travel is impossible
outside of fantasy. Sid is definitely doing fantasy fiction here.

Science already demonstrated that to be a faulty assumption.

I recall Peabody snarling a few times at Sherman or at least verbally
snapping at him when the lad got a little mouthy. I liked the guy with the
mustache who put on his hat and left the museum after a hard day cleaning
up after the elephants. Where did he go? Out on the town?

The "graveyard of empires" myth caught my attention because of the weight
of pessimistic desire it marshals against history. Anyone who digs in can
discover that Afghanistan only breaks some relatively modern imperial
ambitions. Usually proponents of the myth draw the line there, but
bringing out Alexander and the Mongols makes the argument unsustainable.

Some empires have been able to hold that bit of rock quite nicely. Others
haven't. The differences between them are the interesting thing. I would
argue that for starters, those that get hung up on Afghanistan as the
fatal tabu don't succeed there. Those that treat the Bactrians like
everyone else have a shot, but there are other variables then.

I would consider a third category for historical recreation or "magick
memoir" but where Afghanistan is concerned, until the pessimists bowl me
over with the force of their dammerungdrang it's all just another scary
story to be recited to evoke little more than shivers.

And the war ... drags on.

I'm no historian. All I know is that every 'global' empire that has
tried to conquer Afghanistan has failed and collapsed shortly
after the abortive attempt.

They (mostly the Pushtan [sic?]) are a very tough and competent
people who are completely capable of existing with no outside trade
at all, which makes them unconquerable.

Which is more good evidence for the well-known fact that you're no
historian.
