Amazing Jonathan borrowed this trick from Arthur Buckley's wonderful
book, GEMS OF MENTAL MAGIC. A book, by the way, which contains some
of
the most incredible mental magic ever to see print. When I am
consulted
and asked where the really 'good stuff' is, GEMS is always at the top
of
the list.
Effect:
Hanging in the middle of the stage, about 8 feet up is a large manila
envelope. It was there before the show and remains there until the
trick is performed. The word "PREDICTION" is written across the front
of
the envelope. During the show an audience member is asked to predict
a
number, select a card, or call out some kind of prediction. I would
advise writting the information on a large blackboard so everybody
remembers the information. This can be done with several audience
members and is completly random.
After the information is gathered and written on the board, the
magician
yells "Jeff, Jeff, bring me the chair." to the side of the stage.
Jeff,
the trusty assistant brings out the chair. The magician stands on the
chair in order to reach up and retrieve the envelope containing the
PREDICTION.
He gets off the chair and opens the envelope. A folded piece of white
paper is removed from the envelope and handed to an audience member
to
read. She reads aloud and amazingly every one of the random
predictions
are written on the paper. NO SWITCHES, DUPLICATES OR STOOGES are
used.
All of the information is gathers in a completely random manner.
Method:
The assistant Jeff does all the work from back stage. The envelope is
empty the whole time. From back stage all of the information is
written
on the paper as it is called out. Then the piece of paper is folded
and
loaded onto the back of the chair.
After the magician plucks the envelope from above he leans down, and
in
the act of climbing off of the chair he places his hand (the one with
the envelope in it) on the top of the back of the chair. This is
where
he steals the folded piece of paper with his fingers and hides it
behind
the envelope. All that is left is to open the envelope and in the act
of pulling out the paper from inside, it really comes from the back
of
the envelope. Pulling the paper out is done RAPIDLY to help hide
where
it really came from.
Another option would be to cut a slit on one side of the enelope.
This
way you really could reach inside it then retrieve the folded
prediction
through the slit.
There are so many variations to this trick that I can't begin to
descrbe
them all. Your only limited by your imagination. I perform HEADLINE
PREDICTIONS by varying the handling slightly. Hint: Try to stay away
from national or natural disasters. People will come up to you after
the show and accuse you of being able to prevent things like airline
crashes and really puts you in a bad light.

Night Trap is a video game that was released on October 15, 1992. It
was created by Digital Pictures and reportedly cost US$1.5 million to
produce.[1] Night Trap was originally developed for Hasbro's NEMO
system, which used VHS tapes instead of ROM cartridges. However, when
Hasbro scrapped production on the NEMO, Night Trap was moved to the
Sega CD and later brought to the Sega 32X, 3DO Interactive
Multiplayer, and PC platforms with higher-quality video. The game
utilized full-motion video scenes entirely and is notorious for the
controversy it brewed in 1993, resulting in US Senate hearings and
bannings of the game nationwide.[2]

[edit] Story
A group of young co-eds are staying at Mr. and Mrs. Martin's for the
night. The Martin family seems like a normal American family, however,
odd things have been occurring at this house. Five girls who
previously stayed at the place had disappeared, so the "Sega Control
Attack Team" ("Sega" changed to "Special" once the game was ported to
other consoles) is called upon to protect the new guests and find out
what happened. As the new wave of girls arrive for a slumber party
(one of which is undercover SCAT agent Kelli, played by Dana Plato),
the vampiric Auger begin to invade the house.
[edit] Gameplay
Referred to as "control", the player views events via hidden cameras
set up in eight different locations, which can be viewed one at a
time. As the aforementioned Augers creep into the house, the player
has to spot them and use traps to capture them. At the bottom of a
screen rests a small meter; when this meter fills, it is the player's
signal to activate a trap in the room being viewed (i.e. a revolving
bookcase or a faux seal on the floor) and capture the Auger(s) on
screen, adding to the score.
The player must also have the correct security access code selected on
screen in order for the traps to work. The code is changed four times
throughout the course of the game, and keeping up with the accurate
code requires listening in on key conversations. Ultimately, high
performance requires repeat plays in order to gain complete knowledge
of the story and capture all Augers possible. Time always moves
forward, cannot be rewound, and if too many vampires are missed, the
game ends. The game will also end if certain characters are taken away
or if the hosts of the slumber party disconnect your access to the
traps.
[edit] Controversy
Night Trap is now infamous because of its part in the 1990s
Congressional hearings on offensive video game material. Night Trap
and Mortal Kombat are cited as primary factors in leading to the
development of the ESRB game industry ratings system.
On December 16, 1993, the Sega CD version of Night Trap was removed
from store shelves at Toys "R" Us and F.A.O. Schwarz locations in the
United States in direct response to a December 9, 1993 joint Senate
Judiciary and Government Affairs Committee hearing on video game
violence.[3] The hearings were covered heavily by the media and were
co-chaired by Senators Joseph Lieberman (Connecticut) and Herbert Kohl
(Wisconsin), during which Night Trap was cited as "shameful", "ultra-
violent", "sick", and "disgusting", encouraging an "effort to trap and
kill women". Contrary to such claims, players are not trapping or
killing women at all; rather, they are saving them from harm.
The infamous nightgown scene. The Congressional hearings were covered
in major newspapers including USA Today, The Washington Post and The
New York Times.[4] In particular, a game over scene in which the
character Lisa is wearing a nightgown while captured by Augers
attempting to drain her blood was found to be very offensive. In
defense of the game, Tom Zito (President and CEO of Digital Pictures)
attempted to explain the context of the nightgown scene during a
hearing session, but was met with little regard. In the short
documentary Dangerous Games (included with the PC version), the
producers and some members of the cast explain that the plot of the
game was to in fact prevent the trapping and killing of women. In
addition, the blood draining device was intended to look very
unrealistic and would therefore mitigate the violence.[4] Despite
scenes in which the girls are grabbed or pulled by enemies, no nudity
or extreme acts of violence were ever filmed or incorporated into the
game. [4]
Additionally, Night Trap's box art was criticized by interest groups
for what many believed to be a sexist depiction (see above). In 1994,
after the controversy died down, the game was ported to 3DO and Sega
32X, and for PC and Mac in 1995. All of these versions were released
with a new cover depicting a tame screenshot of Dana Plato from the
game, with decorative artwork in the background. [5] [6]
In 2007, Yahoo! Games listed it as one of the top ten controversial
games of all time.[7]
[edit] Reception
Due to the controversy and removal of the game from mainstream
outlets, the game was not financially successful. Today, many consider
the game to be a classic of the FMV game genre. The game's quality,
however, was criticized for its single unfolding of events, which led
to stale gameplay after only so many plays. Advancing in the game
often meant missing out on numerous scenes by focusing on other rooms
to capture Augers[8]. Night Trap was ranked the 12th "Worst Video Game
of All-Time" in an Electronic Gaming Monthly article by editor
SeanBaby. [9] He and other game journalists also featured the game in
a 2007 episode of their comedy web series, Broken Pixels. [8] Game
Informer listed the game among the worst horror games of all time in
2008.[10]
The developer, Digital Pictures, was otherwise notable for their use
of interactive video in titles including Sewer Shark, Corpse Killer
and Ground Zero: Texas.
[edit] Platform differences
The party sequence. The major differences between the Sega and 3DO/PC
versions were that all references and depictions of Sega related
products was eliminated from the latter versions. In order to do this,
the introduction and some of the other videos were replaced with the
original footage made for the game prior to its dedication to Sega CD,
as it was originally scheduled for release on the cancelled Hasbro
NEMO system.
Versions released after the Sega CD differed slightly in presentation.
Since later versions utilized better hardware, this allowed for the
video in Night Trap to be nearly two times larger than the Sega CD
edition and have better resolution. Also, an on-screen map with each
room color coded appeared at the bottom of the player's screen at all
times in the 3DO version, although it was useless for detecting
intruders. When the game was released for the Sega 32X, it saw the
same improvements introduced in later versions. The CD-ROM version
also includes a save feature, from which the player can access a new
pause menu with a large map of the house. This version also included
Dangerous Games, a brief documentary about the game and the
controversy that surrounded it (YouTube link).
Discussions between director Jim Riley and Digital Leisure have taken
place in an effort to produce a DVD port of Night Trap[citation
needed], but this has yet to produce any result. Since Hasbro sold
their videogame department to Infogames, licensing rights seem to be
undeclared, arguably hindering a DVD port from being produced.
[edit] NEMO footage
Footage of the never released VHS-based NEMO video game system can be
found in the Sega CD version of Night Trap when entering a button code
during the credits. This footage shows Hasbro executives taking a look
at Scene of the Crime (the prototype for Night Trap) in December 1986.

The Masked Magician Biography
The Masked Magician Biography
The magician’s sacred code of silence is broken forever in the
upcoming MAGIC’S BIGGEST SECRETS FINALLY REVEALED premiering March 2,
2009. The infamous world acclaimed Masked Magician stars in the hour-
long episodes airing Mondays at 9pm (ET/PT) on MyNetworkTV. He
entertains and enlightens fans of all ages by exposing the secrets
behind magic’s most mystifying illusions. The Masked Magician
continues to defy his fellow conjurers and disclose the tricks that
have captivated audiences for centuries.
Over 120 of magic’s most memorable illusions will be unveiled,
including the MOTORCYCLE VANISH, TRAIN LEVITATION, WATER ESCAPE,
WALKING THROUGH SOLID GLASS, WALKING ON WATER, MAGIC YOU CAN DO and
much more.
Val Valentino, The Masked Magician, has starred in a multitude of
international and national TV specials. His four blockbuster FOX TV
Network specials were among the highest rated in the history of the
network, and garnered better numbers than the World Series. He has
successfully performed more illusions on Television in one year than
any other magician in history.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY wrote that The Masked Magician is “more
spellbinding than David Copperfield’s, Lance Burton’s and Siegfried &
Roy’s entire bag of tricks combined.” Valentino was also honored on
EW’s prestigious IT LIST as one of the “Top 100” most creative
entertainers in show business.
What has The Masked Magician been doing since his first FOX TV
specials? He has been in high demand worldwide, producing TV
specials,
“live” performances, product endorsements, commercials, TV cameos,
consulting on magic projects, etc. He has been awarded the equivalent
of an Academy Award in Latin America, and received tremendous
recognition throughout the Far East, United Kingdom and virtually the
world. The Masked Magician believes that magic transcends all
languages, and appeals to all ages.
Due to his tremendous Television success, CBS wasted no time in
signing Valentino to a two-hour special episode of the DIAGNOSIS
MURDER series starring d*** Van Dyke. The producers were quoted as
saying, “The Masked Magician killed us
in the last ratings sweep, so we figured we’d do what any self-
respecting producers would do: bring The Masked Magician to our side,
and kill him off in a two-hour special.” The NEW YORK POST’s review
was glowing. “This is must see TV: videotape this one; you’ll be glad
you did.”
The Masked Magician’s “live” stage extravaganza has been touring to
sold out arenas globally and across the United States. He has
mastered
the most difficult and death-defying illusions, and his future plans
include attempting to be “buried alive” six feet underground in a
metal coffin for seven days. Historical documents attest that the
illustrious Houdini feared and never attempted this stunt publicly.
Valentino creates “the magic” then proceeds to reveal the reality of
the illusions before a captivated television audience on his

Sorry Billy, I'm not the Amazing Jonathan, but I sure love the guy.
I'm
not sure how much longer he's going to be around. In an article in
Magic a couple months ago he said he's been diagnosed with heart
disease.

That'll suck. Amazing Jonathan is awesome. Soo much entertainment and
hardly 2 tricks done the whole show.
His website has some jokes that are so offensive that you literally
would have trouble telling any two of them in the same company.
My favorite:
"What's 18 inches long and makes women scream?"
(don't scroll down if you're squeamish)

For copyrighted material you can be sued if you produce and distribute

There's no such thing as a copyrighted illusion. You are free to
manufacture your own version of anything unless something has a
current Patent.
For copyrighted material you can be sued if you produce and distribute
the text descriptions and photographs of the illusion in the exact
same form or a near derivative form as the original author. Sorry this
has all been said before, but every time I see a wrong interpretation
of this, I'm going to put it right.

verygood ideasfor cool slight of hand with coins added with coins and
crds ideas
ps msntv2 takes for ever to get red line to go all the way to the
finish line to hit play then arrow button to play viewo motion with no
frame by frame ideas an just like this website too it got up to 5
minutes and 40 somthing secounds and went back to oo as i watched
frame by frame keeping msntv 2 from going into scren saver at the same
time ideas phew
ps if its only secounds the red line gets to the finish line like
popey just ate his spinache and in no time im able to hit play and
arrow button to play full video motion on youtube and if its one
minute or 2 minutes or 3 minutes and somthingsecounds it takes kinda
long to get done then hit play button then arowbutton to play full
motion
video
but somtimes it freeezes up or knockes me off the msntv2 units have to
connect back on again phew then put password in again augh so im using
logic here if msntv2 for youtube video it has to be in secounts like 1
or 2 or 50 secounds to have fun on mntv2 units ps but people on the
computerswho put thees cool videos up in youtube vdeo search engines
run it to 10 minutes or more
why caint msntv2 units keep up with computers?
like turining on tv ideas?
my dad has a computer and my friend david drew duncan and other
peoplethat wathmeconnect on msntv2 uni i have they say boy your
computer is sure slow mine just plays video auto matic plus gets
connected much fasters then yours bill page

This is what it's like inside Bill's head. I heard Fox is negotiating

Fox's sleight of hand: TV specials exposing the secrets of magic saw
illusionists in half. (magicians complain about TV network

There's magic in the air. In a spate of upcoming TV specials and sold-
out stage shows, you can see a magician floating in the air, a woman
turned into a tiger, playing cards and people disappearing with the
wave of a hand. But while highbrow networks like PBS are showcasing
magic's legacy, Fox has garnered a ratings bonanza and outraged many
magicians by answering the most basic question of all: How'd they do
that trick?
Last November, more people tuned in to see Fox's Breaking the
Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed than watched
any 1997 World Series game. The "anti-magic" special exposed
everything from pulling a rabbit out of a hat to making an ...

The shows will go until the end (13 parts). I explain the whole things
to you what happened. The show supposed to start on the October 7th
and they wanted to show on October 2nd a sneak preview but accidently
they showed a full show. So they showed the yesterday part on October
2nd.
I heard it happened with other series either and people didn't know
what was going on.
Anyway next week and the following weeks you will see new shows.

It is Valentino..... The costume designer was trying to recall the
name. He Siad Val... so I am assuming it is Valentino.
He said it was very demanding and he did not enjoy working with the
production.

Wonderful .. I thought this show was going to be buried on some
unknown cable station, but it will be on one of the other networks.
Best thing to do is just ignore it all ..

Who cares who is it? Curtis pay the costume designer or the janitor to
find the tapes and destroy them. Everyone will love him.

No worries. It is airing on MyNetwork TV. I think YouTube has a higher
viewership than this dying network.
Even though there are thirteen episodes planned and the supposed
revelation of 120 illusions, tricks and feats. I seriously doubt it
will have any effect on our trade and reveal anything that hasn't
already benn done so by YouTube or inept performers.

He does a kind of "mixed bag of tricks", some which are very, very
old. As an example, he did Metamorphosis, and shows the "secret" as
sliding the whole top of the trunk off, and them back on.
Some of his stuff is right-on, other illusions are very outdated. I
don't know what's in his new show, but obviously money is more
important to him than scruples. They need to put him in an ungimmicked
head chopper.

I have no problem with him exposing how Criss Angel, David Blaine, and
yes even Darren Brown do all the "TV only" tricks. That would be a
show I endorse.

I actually spoke with Tawni at their customer service and they
wouldn't reply to my emails after I made a comparison between exposure
and knock offs.

Anybody have a heads-up on what's on these shows? I ask specifically
because I have a big run opening in October and that's exactly when
these "specials" are supposed to air. I do not want to do the DeKolta
Chair if this moron just revealed it the night before! I know we've
had to weather this before, but this time it has a very direct impact
for me (and countless others, I'm sure) because of the timing. Anyone
know? Thanks!

Do not give the show any ratings. DO NOT WATCH IT. Wait until it is on
youtube or someone taped it....

One can only give a given show ratings if they have that special box
installed on their TV's.

The producers of Masked magicians gave false identity, when they
ordered an Assistant Revenge to snap illusions ? If not, it is a shame
to have sold it. I think , that the builder should ask before building
something. I remember a great builder, few years ago, who put Masked
magician in the list of his customers ! The few money won for 1 prop,
but no money in the future for this illusion for a long time : it is a
bad calculation for Snap.
if snap knew that it was the production of the masked magician, it is
inaceptable. But I suppose that it is hard to know who is behind
sometimes...

Looks like they had a Twister an a Dakolta Chair...not really
"outdated illusions"
I'm not sure if these were just for the teaser or are actually going
to get tipped.

I really wouldn't pull a trick just because it was exposed on a TV
show. Maybe this made sense thirty years ago when there were only
three networks so if a show like this ran you'd have a good chance of
at least a third of your audience having seen the program. But in
todays content filled airwaves it is not so much of a problem. The
first (and highest rated) MM program garnered 14 million viewers (if I
remember right). This meant that out of an audience of one hundred
people you might have two people in attendance who actually saw the
program.
With this program being on MyNetwork it won't even get a million
viewers so the odds of having anyone in the audience who actually saw
this program are slim.
So go ahead and do your show as planned unless of course it is for the
MyNetworks holiday party.

Unless you've got a Nielson box in your house you can watch the show
without affecting it's ratings as they have no idea whose tuned in to
what show at any given time with out one of the affoe said mentioned
devices attached to your television.
However YouTube videos are monitored so by watching them you show the
producers that someone is interested in their content.

Paulo, Valentino can be watch on TV. Lay people watch more TV than
anything else. All exposure on TV is more dangerous, cause on Youtube
you need search. On TV, you are falling on a programm, and you watch
it.

Here's an example of a bad interlude copy:

at about 1:45 into the clip..
not very deceptive at all...
