We have forum sections on everything ranging from Presentation and
Reviews, to Coin Effects and DIY Magic. You are entitled to full free
speech on SOMF, in-fact, it is encouraged! We take a different view of
magic online at SOMF, if you are interested in magic, or are learning
magic, or even a professional, you should be able to ask for help and
advice from other magicians, without fear of being told "You can't ask
that hear!".

We are full of magicians ranging from Hobbyists to Professionals. We
do get people coming in to just learn David Blaine or Criss Angel's
newest effect, but these people are usually to lazy to sign up in the
first place, let alone read through the forum.

It is encouraged to try and help as many people as you can, and in
return you will get help yourself. Need some opinions on your newest
trick? Don't have a solid presentation? Looking for that one effect to
add to your repertoire? If you want to learn magic then this is the
place. Please try and help other members as much as you can, and you
in turn will receive help when needed!

What a mess of a web page. I only went as far as you home page and
found it a visually busy, hard to read mess that needs a lot of
cleanup. A mish mash of pictures intermixed with fonts that clash,
distracting multicolor text with random use of capitalization,
misuse of bold fonts, inconsistent line spacing, spelling mistakes,
poor error handling, etc, etc. And that is only SOME of the
problems with the page.

Why would I want to read more???

(And you have the nerve to say you are better organized than a
Usenet group! It would not be hard to do so, but you haven't
arrived there yet!)

I remember when the magicians here used to be thankful for links like
this. I remember a few years back when I first heard about SOMF on
here. alt.magic.secrets has really went downhill. Just thought you'd
like another community to check out but I guess not. Sorry for wasting
your time as well.

Your site could use some work. Also, consider making it viewable by
anyone but only members can post. You'd tease in more members that
way. Right now, you seem to be opening the door to a future spam-fest
by making folk register.

Alright, thanks for the advice Ray, I was thinking of doing something
like that in the future, maybe just showing the forum sections even so
they see what we have.

Look at the way the Magic Cafe does it. You don't get to the juicy

Yet, google doesn't show any such announcement in the archives. Not
searching for "secrets of magic forum", no "secrets of magic", no
"magicsecrets.suddenlaunch3.com". No matter.

I have no reason in the world to be kind to you. If you feel that
everyone is supposed to treat you kindly, you may want to start seeing a
therapist now.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. You can be a jerk its ok.
But getting in arguments on the internet is pointless. I'd just like
to thank Ray for being the only one nice enough to give me some advice
without bashing. Thanks Ray. As for you not finding it in the
archives, it could have been on alt.magic, I know it was one of the
two.

There's no crime at all in pretending to discover something on the
web. Eric himself has done that in the past with sites he created.
He's just a blowhard with a domain name. Meaningless.

Your splash page isn't bad but your forum page really ought to have a
relevant image instead of that hashed up conglomeration of color. Give
it some magical focus, if you know what I mean.

2009 -- Yes I do believe it has been dead since at the latest around 2015 or maybe earlier. Why? IMO although it claimed to be more open minded than other forums on magic in many ways it was far less tolerant. Members either were banned, warned, ridiculed, or in other ways treated badly by not only other members, but a host of moderators including "Mike" the originator. The site was not well made or hosted but much of that was due to outside haters of the openness of some of the discussions who hacked the site and tried several times to destroy it. The last times I tried to access it successfully it wanted to test my IP address. IP addresses were eventually used to screen out unwanted persons. My newer operating systems shielded my IP address and could not be used. I had to haul out my old computer and use Windows XP OS to access the site. I am sad to see it go. There were, despite some "bad apples," many good and genuine nice reputable magicians that were also noble human beings. I miss them. But I too was tired of the all of the other ones and stopped frequenting the site for many personal reasons as well as the negatives in general. MagiKen was my name on the SOMF; for those who knew and respected me. There were at that time, the time I stopped, some decent sites I started using, not all of them free of charge, and I started using (and continue to use) them instead. Nonetheless, I do miss many of my old friends at SOMF. Greetings to you all should you see this.

kmagicman was my name on SOMF. I was a fairly active member, but I did notice it starting to die down late 2014 or so. I had a feeling it was only a matter of time.

My time on the Secrets of Magic Forum was great, and yes, there we a lot of genuinely kind people and magicians alike on the forum.
