I'm posting this clip if for no other reason than to show the lengths
to which Sankey and sunk. Scroll down to the fake reviews, find me a
guy named Beau Creamer and I'll eat my sponge balls. All one and two
syllable names, Sankey is real creative.

Anyway, after you've had a good laugh at the munchkin's expense, let's
talk about the trick, my far superior gimmick, and yes friends, the
SECRET; which is very valuable but not the way Sankey is selling it to
you.

$40 for a paperclip and a DVD??? I don't think so.

Let me give you the basic effect as originally presented in the great
magic catalogs of yesterday.

EFFECT:

Magician points out a sealed prediction, which can be held by a
spectator, or recorded in advance, etc. Magician then opens up and
lays out a daily newspaper or periodical on a table, which may be
brought by a spectator. A page with a lot of text is prefered.

Next, a flat square piece of brass is introduced (the original was
brass but any metal will do), which measures about 1 inch by 3
inches. In the center of this piece of metal is cut an oblong slot
about a quarter inch in height and an inch in length.

Note: If this sounds like part of a metal gate hinge that's exactly
what it looks like. You can find your choice of many down at the
hardware store.

The metal bracket is placed onto the text and a spectator is asked to
place her hand onto it in such a way that the open box in the center
is noit visible.

She is now told to slide the bracket freely about the newspaper and
stop whenever she would like.

When she does she is asked if she is sure this is where she wants to
stop, yada, yada, yada.

With her hand removed there is now a word visible in the open box. It
may not be exactly centered, so she is told to read the word that she
can see the most clearly.

Note that during this process the magician has the metal bracket
pinned to the table with his hand, it's very important that it doesn't
move...not even a hairs' breadth. You'll understand why when the
secret is exposed.

The prediction envelope is now opened and the word in the box matches
the prediction exactly.

SECRET:

As with all great tricks the secret is quite simple. On the other
side of the bracket is a slip of paper cut from another section of the
newspaper. It is hinged to the bracket with a piece of tape so that
is can be folded into and out of view in the window.

With the paper gimmick folded out of view the magician can place the
bracket into the text and freely slide it about, demonstrating how he
would like the spectator to move it about. His hand is above the
oblong box thus obscuring the view of the word.

When he's ready to perform he secretly folds the paper gimmick so the
"force word" is visible in the window.

The rest is fairly self explanatory.

Note when preparing the gimmick it's not necessary that the force word
be exactly centered in the window. As a matter of fact it's best if
it isn't. It also should be a mid size word, I use a noun.

That's the basic secret.

In Sankey's Slyder all he has done is affix a word to the other side
of the paperclip, then cut it to fit with a razor blade or exacto
knife. I think there is a reason he doesn't go out of his way to
actully demonstrate the effect in any of his demo videos, he just
talks a lot about it, how brilliant his pseudo-customers think he is,
and so on.

He uses the gimmick to find words or dollar amounts on a cash register
reciept, find a word by clipping the gimmick to the edge of a book,
etc.

He has apparently bent the paperclip so is bevels and slides easier
along cheap paper like that used in reciepts and pulp paperbacks.

Now that you know the secret you'll find all sorts of uses for it.
And if you can't afford the bracket from a gate hinge (or haven't
thought of stealing your neighbors), it can be made out of other
materials such as cardboard.

Have fun kids!

That's very likely Bamaburt, 'Theatre of the Mind' is one of the
greatest books on mentalism published in the last 50 years. Volume 2
was so-so. Volume 3 was recently published but I haven't bought that
one yet-- same author but a different title.

Sankey is first and formost a copy writer, he has a degree in
marketing. He's taken the old adage 'it's worth what you say it's
worth' to the edge this time. I can't believe the $40 price tag on
this lemon...it's nothing but a paperclip that been slightly bent.

Sankey should be the poster boy for avoiding marriage. His
creativity, his reputation, even his misogynistic tone toward women
seen in some of his old VHS tapes...all sacrificed for shitty diapers
and some bitch who's screaming at him to "CHARGE MORE!!!"

I'm laying even odds he takes out the whole family some day. The
headlines will read "Keebler Elf Goes on Rampage". The basements of
nut houses are full of guys just like ol' Jay. Remember Micky Rooney
on his knees yelling at those rats? They even look alike.

So I know I'm a little late but I'm thinking of picking up slyder. I guess I'm wondering if the gimmick is just taped to the paperclip or is it taped to back side which the spectators cant see?
