The illusion was done at night because its easy to perform vanishes at night. Can David do this in full day light? PC Sorcar Jr disappeared Taj Mahal in full day light. Franz Harary vanished Space Shuttle also in day time.

If it is so "easy" to perform vanishes at night, why don't you do one? Copperfield is the first magician who used the concept of megaillusions, and this one in particular is the largest vanish (and production) ever performed. You can't compare the other illusions to this one, since the Statue of Liberty can be seen from many places outside Liberty Island.

Why should I do? If you are a magician then why don't you do? Is it wrong that vanishing at day is difficult than that of night? Did I criticized David? Before David also many magicians did vanishes and production. Its only matter of media coverage and publicity. You logically explain how PC Sorcar Jr vanish is less complicated? Magic originated in India. You must be knowing no magician in the world except Indians had performed Indian Rope Trick. Its not the matter of fan and personal likings.

Daytime and nighttime are just a single parameter, so it is incorrect to say that vanish an object at night is easier than doying it at night regardless of any other condition. Yes, many magicians did vanishes/productions before David, but none did illusions that big before him. The disappearence of the Statue of Liberty is the largest vanish/production ever performed (source: Guinness World Records), and before that the largest illusion was Copperfield's Lear Jet vanish (1981). This is history.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 (Show the comment) 1 day ago
Daytime and nighttime are one of the biggest parameter. Because our vision based on light. I know that its in Guinness Book. But the big and small which you are quoting are only matter of money. David is the richest magician. Many magicians may know this trick but may not have the budget to pull it up. I am only little bit putting attention towards other killer magicians (may or may not be skilled like David), who are discouraged only for money, though having better skills.

Sure daytime and nighttime are important parameters, but not the only ones. Also, are you implying that the Guinness World Records is lying? If there are other megaillusions done before the Copperfield era, I would like to know them (Houdini's vanishing elephant is too small to be compared to those ones). And Copperfield was very poor at the beginning of his career, but he started gaining money due to its own work: at the age of 10 he was already doing shows, (continues)

(continues) at the age of 12 he was the youngest person ever admitted to the Society of American Magicians, at 16 he was teaching a course in magic at New York University, and at 20 he was doing his first tv special. It's not the money which matters, but the talent and hard work. Do you know that David spent seven years to learn to fly and fourteen years to do his version of Metamorphosis (Cocoon)? Despite being famous and rich, he still more than 500 shows per year. Who has better skills?

Ohoo..you are too much going towards personal choices. I am not saying light is the only one, but one of the most important one. When I said Guinness Record is lying? First you open you blindfold of personal fan. A record will only come in Guinness book if someone will do registration. I have seen many street magicians who mesmerize audiences, but dying of hunger. And frankly, in US the scope of being popular is more. I also know he learned first card trick from his grandfather.

It's not only a matter of personal choice, David improved magic in every aspect more than any other magican have ever done, and this is a fact. Just check his most famous illusion: Ferrari, Jet, Statue, Death Saw, Orient Express, Flying, Laser, Thirteen, Portal and so many others. By the way, do you think that there are illusion bigger than the Statue of Liberty that just went unnoticed by the Guinness because none registered them? You are right about the "Grandpa Aces" card trick, though.

Well, I am not sure you have seen everything about David, since most of his specials either were uploaded few times ago or are missing from youtube, and his earlier specials are very important to understand his evolution as a magician. I don't think I am trying to turn the table or treat other magicians in a different way. I try to stick to facts: it is a fact, for example, that an Italian magician said he was going to vanish the Tower of Pisa by the end of 2011, and he didn't do it (continues)

Why are you not answering my questions regarding Indian magic tricks. What about PC Sorcar, who is a merchant of vanish? You are a blind idol worshiper. You should also answer to others question. You are only quoting which I know, and don't want to know which you never heard of.

The illusion was done at night because its easy to perform vanishes at night. Can David do this in full day light? PC Sorcar Jr disappeared Taj Mahal in full day light. Franz Harary vanished Space Shuttle also in day time.
partha4084 4 days ago
If it is so "easy" to perform vanishes at night, why don't you do one? Copperfield is the first magician who used the concept of megaillusions, and this one in particular is the largest vanish (and production) ever performed. You can't compare the other illusions to this one, since the Statue of Liberty can be seen from many places outside Liberty Island.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 2 days ago

The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
Daytime and nighttime are one of the biggest parameter. Because our vision based on light. I know that its in Guinness Book. But the big and small which you are quoting are only matter of money. David is the richest magician. Many magicians may know this trick but may not have the budget to pull it up. I am only little bit putting attention towards other killer magicians (may or may not be skilled like David), who are discouraged only for money, though having better skills.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
Sure daytime and nighttime are important parameters, but not the only ones. Also, are you implying that the Guinness World Records is lying? If there are other megaillusions done before the Copperfield era, I would like to know them (Houdini's vanishing elephant is too small to be compared to those ones). And Copperfield was very poor at the beginning of his career, but he started gaining money due to its own work: at the age of 10 he was already doing shows, (continues)

I have read everything about David have you read and seen about another magician in the way you read about David? I am putting my argument in a truthful and logical way, you are only trying to turn the table. By the way Franz harary disappeared Space Shuttle, and he invents all his own illusion.

I have read everything about David have you read and seen about another magician in the way you read about David? I am putting my argument in a truthful and logical way, you are only trying to turn the table. Yes there are illusions which are unnoticed, read about PC Sorcar cycling on deep water, Indian rope trick, Indrajaal etc, which I know you might not be knowing of. By the way Franz harary disappeared Space Shuttle, and he invents all his own illusion.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
Well, I am not sure you have seen everything about David, since most of his specials either were uploaded few times ago or are missing from youtube, and his earlier specials are very important to understand his evolution as a magician. I don't think I am trying to turn the table or treat other magicians in a different way. I try to stick to facts: it is a fact, for example, that an Italian magician said he was going to vanish the Tower of Pisa by the end of 2011, and he didn't do it (continues)

Franz Harary did vanish the Space Shuttle, but this was in 1994, way after Copperfield introduced the megaillusion concept with Lear Jet vanish (1981), The Statue Of Liberty Disappears (1983) and Train Car Vanish (1991). Plus, the Space Shuttle only measures 56 meters, while the Statue of Liberty is 93 meters tall. I will wacth the illusions you mentioned, but I don't think any of them will overcome David. There are seven type of magic: production, vanish, transformation, restoration (continues)

NASA didn't allowed Franz to move the space shuttle. He did it in daytime. David's all Vanishes are either in stage or in night time. Tell me one daytime vanish of David. Well I think you have bee so naive when you say that no one will overcome David. Its only a supremacy barrier in development. It shows clearly your hypocrisy and blind idol worshiping of David. I am not criticizing your David, I am saying only about publicity and luck.

Why do yo feel the need to call me naive and talk about "hypocrisy and blind idol worshiping" when I am only expressing my opinion and using facts to support it? "NASA didn't allowed Franz to move the space shuttle": what does it mean? Then, the USA government didn't allow David to move the statue either. I haven't said that none will overcome David, but just that none did it until now. Well, David could overcome itself again, since he is studying a way to make the moon disappear. (continues)

(continues) You said "David's all Vanishes are either in stage or in night time": so what? He is a stage magician, so he obviously does 99% of his illusions on stage, while he performs outdoors only when the illusion can't be performed indoors. His stage illusions are seen by live audiences of thousands of people Also, in his 2001 special, he did a whole magic show in a round theatre, with people all around him.
The99Ra in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
Why should I do? If you are a magician then why don't you do? Is it wrong that vanishing at day is difficult than that of night? Did I criticized David? Before David also many magicians did vanishes and production. Its only matter of media coverage and publicity. You logically explain how PC Sorcar Jr vanish is less complicated? Magic originated in India. You must be knowing no magician in the world except Indians had performed Indian Rope Trick. Its not the matter of fan and personal likings.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
Daytime and nighttime are just a single parameter, so it is incorrect to say that vanish an object at night is easier than doying it at night regardless of any other condition. Yes, many magicians did vanishes/productions before David, but none did illusions that big before him. The disappearence of the Statue of Liberty is the largest vanish/production ever performed (source: Guinness World Records), and before that the largest illusion was Copperfield's Lear Jet vanish (1981). This is history.

I have read everything about David have you read and seen about another magician in the way you read about David? I am putting my argument in a truthful and logical way, you are only trying to turn the table. By the way Franz harary disappeared Space Shuttle, and he invents all his own illusion.

Well, I am not sure you have seen everything about David, since most of his specials either were uploaded few times ago or are missing from youtube, and his earlier specials are very important to understand his evolution as a magician. I don't think I am trying to turn the table or treat other magicians in a different way.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
PC Sorcar Jr is the only magician who whenever perform any show in foreign country always speaks in their native language. He knows 25 foreign languages, which he ca use to hypnotize. He can cycle on deep water in live. He disappeared Taj Mahal in full day light. He disappeared a passenger full of train in from of high court judges. He disappeared Victoria Memorial. Magic is in their blood from 3 generations. Who has better skills?
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
I am aware of Franz Harary vanish of Taj Mahal, but I have never heard of the same illusion being done by PC Sorcar Jr, could you give me some info about this? By the way, if he speaks 25 foreign languages he is one of the best polyglot in the world. are you sure that this is true? I like better, however, the jokes that Copperfield does with his translators. I don't understand the vanish of "a passenger full of train": do you mean "a train full of passengers"? (continues)
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
(continues) And if you are referring to Victoria Memorial in India, then wikipedia tells me it's only 56 metres tall, much less than the Statue of Liberty, so that hardly proves that he is better than David (who also vanished a train car from the Orient Express). Again. how can you say you have seen all David's specials, if most of them have yet to be uploaded on the web?
The99Ra in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
Hello don't talk about size only. Its about trick and performance. Everytime you are putting sizes to only loop through your facts only. Whatever we had in India, we did it. In this case size doesn't matter. No body is moving those structures. If Statue would have been in India, then PC Sorcar could also had pull it up. Don't repeatedly tell what I have seen on David. WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN ABOUT PC SORCAR?? Nothing.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
I talked about the size because I was thinking you were doubting the Statue illusion was the largest one, but if you don't want, let's not talk about size anymore (even if tens of meters of difference matters, in my opinion). Why do I think David is the best? Well, he levitaded a Ferrari and vanished it in midair. He vanished a seven ton jet airplane, which was the largest illusion at the time. (continues)
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
In the same way I am saying what PC Sorcar done. Why are you covering up?? Don't waste my time please. You don't want to read about this magician, then don't read. You don't have any technical and logical reasoning. You argument is not logical. You are only uttering the same records in web which most people knows. When I told you about a person, did you bother to know him?? No. Because you are afraid.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
Afraid of what? I already told you that, since you said this PC Sorcar is a good magician, I will try to find and watch some of his videos as soon as I have time. If PC Sorcar's illusions are good, I will be happy of this, since I could watch good illusions other then the ones I already know. I have nothing against it and there's not a competition. I know you are Indian, but why do you take it all so personal?
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
Ohoo..you are too much going towards personal choices. I am not saying light is the only one, but one of the most important one. When I said Guinness Record is lying? First you open you blindfold of personal fan. A record will only come in Guinness book if someone will do registration. I have seen many street magicians who mesmerize audiences, but dying of hunger. And frankly, in US the scope of being popular is more. I also know he learned first card trick from his grandfather.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra 1 day ago
It's not only a matter of personal choice, David improved magic in every aspect more than any other magican have ever done, and this is a fact. Just check his most famous illusion: Ferrari, Jet, Statue, Death Saw, Orient Express, Flying, Laser, Thirteen, Portal and so many others. By the way, do you think that there are illusion bigger than the Statue of Liberty that just went unnoticed by the Guinness because none registered them? You are right about the "Grandpa Aces" card trick, though.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 1 day ago
I have read everything about David have you read and seen about another magician in the way you read about David? I am putting my argument in a truthful and logical way, you are only trying to turn the table. Yes there are illusions which are unnoticed, read about PC Sorcar cycling on deep water, Indian rope trick, Indrajaal etc, which I know you might not be knowing of. By the way Franz harary disappeared Space Shuttle, and he invents all his own illusion.

I didn't make a list of his shows, I just listed 16 of his most famous illusions, a small percentage of what he has done in almost 40 years of career. I did it only because you said I was only talking about size instead of explaining why i think David is better.

Ok, let's end it all now, since this discussion is becoming pointless. Too bad, because as two fans of magic, we could have some interesting talk about the subject.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 (Show the comment) 23 hours ago
He levitated a train car from the Orient Express, sourronded with a ring of people, and vanished it in midair. He was the fist human being to fly (on stage and outside). He freed himself from a straitjacket while hanging outide down ten storeys in the air from a burning rope over burning spikes. He did Laser, where he cut himself in half with no near props and walked cut in half (there is an outside version too). (continues)
The99Ra in reply to The99Ra (Show the comment) 1 day ago
He made thirteen randomly selected audience members disappear from a sourronded raide platform. He TELEPORTED himself and an audience member from stage to a bech on the other side of the planet in seconds. He did houndreds of illusions like those one. That's why I think he is the best illusionist.

Also, you shouldn't put your telephone number on youtube, since this could create serious problems to you. But it's not my buisness. Too bad, because the conversation started with another tones and toopics.

I don't have facebook, nor I have interest in arguing or fighting with anyone. But your comment about "courage" really feels out of place, since we live in free countries in a supposedly free era. If you don't want to continue this debate, you can just stop writing here (since I never wrote anything here except responses to other people's messages), but please stop saying "shut up" and stuff like that, since I can write when I want to.

Well, that could be a possible explanation, my dear Watson... I mean, Spiderman... I mean, billpage. I can't imagine that old lady as a fan of movies, though. But I guess we will never know, since this was in 1983. An interesting thing is that, in the Spanish dub of this illusion, the phrase became "I couldn't imagine he could make it disappear. He/it is a phenomenon". I don't know how it was translated in Italy, since the Italian version of this illusion aired in the late 80's or early 90's.

You never heard of PC Sorcar, then you are illiterate in this field of knowledge. For that you need some time other than David's worship to learn. Read about PC Sorcar Jr, whose Taj Mahal vanish was real live performance. Franz's was fake, because nobody near Taj Mahal even know who is Franz. But all in India knows about PC Sorcar Jr. Yes, he is one of the most polygot of world. But see the game, Franz wanted publicity, so he put his vanish video in internet, so you know it.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra (Show the comment) 1 day ago
I have never claimed to be a scholar of magic, I am just a boy who has many passions, and magic is one of them. But just because you in India know someone, then that doesn't mean that everybody in the world knows it. He doesn't seem that famous on the web,. But if I find some video or news about him, I would be very delighted to watch/read it. I am not the hypocrite guy you think I am, I don't have worship for anyone, I consider magic as a form of entertainment and fun.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 (Show the comment) 1 day ago
I have also read much about magic and did research. Yaa now you came to the point. Talent has nothing to do with web. You have no facts left. Ever body in India knows him. He is also popular internationally(less than other western). If everybody doesn't know a person that means he is fool. Publicity depends on media coverage, scope, luck, time and period, etc. I don't know till know you have searched PC Sorcar on net or not? For me he is not less than anyone.

You are omitting other magicians who may be as good or better than David but didn't get scope. In US most people watch magic show, in other countries, people are not interested in attending magic show. So how they will income? I never said anything wrong about the records. I only say you broaden you vision to little bit outside also.
partha4084 in reply to The99Ra (Show the comment) 1 day ago
Well, I am from Italy, and I watch many other magicians, but none of them can be compared to David. I don't think that USA is the only place where people is interested in magic shows, this just seems a lame excuse to say that guys who cannot vanish anything larger than a coin could be better than David in other conditions. You must deserve any recognition you want, starting from scratch, and using storyteller together with magic.
The99Ra in reply to partha4084 (Show the comment) 1 day ago
Yes US is the place where magic is most widely viewed. Las vegas is the magic capital of the world. I think you have not attended magic show of PC Sorcar. He can is illusionist, hypnotist and escape artist. Read about his vanishing acts. Remember in illusion, the inventor is big. Illusionist don't do anything. He only waves his hand to perform. Statue of liberty illusion was invented by Jim Steinmeyer, which everybody taking away credit.

Can't the statue be seen from the city? If it really dissapear many people would have to seen it from they're homes or street or what ever.
Any one who was in New York in 1983 see this?
Kaare13 1 month ago
Yes, the statue can be seen from the city and many people saw the illusion from there, even though none had a cellphone in 1983, not to mention modern cellphones which make videos, so we can't obviously find other videos except the one aired on CBS.

Wrong, no mirror was used in this illusion, as the searchlights clearly proved. Also, at 7:57 and 8:19 the helicopter is at a very low level.

Well, landing an helicopter is not something you can do in a restricted space, and having people walk into that place would have required lots of time, since the audience is 60 metres (200 feets) away from the statue, and this already long illusion (over 13 minutes) would have been even longer, while this was supposed to be an hour special. Also, it would have been pointless, since the photos, the searchlights and the helicopter shots proved no mirror was used (continues)
The99Ra in reply to lewiss1100 (Show the comment) 1 month ago 5
(continues) Of course this was an illusion, since magic doesn't exist, but my advice is not to look at the secret and learn to enjoy the sense of mystery and wonder that magic gives us. If you are interested in the reappearing part, or in the whole 1983 special, I have it in my channel. Bye.

to all those people saying that the trick is fake. OBVIOUSLY! It's an illusion, a trick. No one could make the statue of liberty disappear that quickly unless they have actual magic.

You are stupid. Of course it's an illusion, David never claimed to have supernatural powers.

Also, this illusion was watched by 50 milions of people when it was aired on tv on 1983, and was awarded by the Guinness World Records as the largest illusion ever performed. You are acting like if you were bullied by magicians as a kid and feel the need to get revenge. None here forces you to watch and comments videos about magic, so get a life.

Paid audince? You are wrong, the people present there PAID Copperfield 5000 $ to see the performance live, that's how David regained the 500,000 $ he spent for the illusion setup.
And there's not editing at all, as Michelle Lee says at 5:50.
I find misinformation one of the most irritating thing.
The99Ra in reply to djclintonk (Show the comment) 2 months ago 3
Nope not a paid audience or editing either. Of course there is a method behind it. It's an old magic principle much older than anyone that is on Y.T. Unless you are a magician you won't even have any idea what that principle is.
RS1963 in reply to djclintonk (Show the comment) 1 month ago
David Copperfiend is an ILLUSIONIST, not a MAGICIAN, or a WIZARD, so stop talking about how it's not real. The art is in how flawlessly and seamlessly he can perform something. Geez.

I wanna know. Also David Copperfield said tat this was his hardest illusion. Just getting the approval from The United States Government in 1983. Just Imagine how much harder it is to get it approved today
