While surrounded on all sides by spectators, he had a girl sit in a
chair and covered her with a sheet, and made her disappear. The ground
below was solid concrete so there was no trap door.

Please tell me how this trick was done please. Thanks.

Read the alt.magic.secrets FAQ and you will find what you need to know
about your question. And don't just skim it, read the whole thing. If
you think that your question isn't covered by the FAQ, read again until
you get it. Repeat if necessary. At least 2 sections cover your question.

He did it by using magic.

On a totally unrelated note - Criss did flash a bit during this trick -
when he looks at the girl's "head" (which most likely isn't there
anymore) shortly before revealing that she's gone, you can clearly see
that the girl's legs are gone - it's like with all magic tricks and
illusions - the true "move" happens when you expect it the least (so
long before Criss pretends to teleport her away) - I wouldn't be
surprised if the girl had in reality crawled under the chair and between
Criss'es legs (uhm) and hidden in the bushes or somewhere else (I don't
recall what the surroundings looked like).

And please don't come with the "but they haven't met before" line. ;-)
Remember how Criss tricked that policeman and policewoman? I suppose the
guy with the camera who was catching all the stuff Criss was throwing at
him "hasn't ever met Criss before, I swear" either.

He wasn't surrounded on all sides by spectators. At least some, if not
all, were stooges (quite common on Criss Angel's TV shows).

Also, if you watch the trick closely it's fairly obvious how he does
it, there seems to be a lack of coordination between Angel holding the
sheet up and the girl performing her move. I'm surprised he didn't
re-shoot the trick because of that, though it still wouldn't have been
a great effect.

Maybe not in this trick, but Angel relies on the fact that a video edit covered
by a crowd cutaway shot is the same as no edit to 99% of TV viewers

I don't waste my time watching his shows. Much of his magic is in the
editing room.

But didn't you say the great stunt wear he "passed" through an armored car?
My 7 year son told me how it was done.

The sad thing is that he is capable of being a good magician. I was talking
to a major illusion manufacturer a few weeks ago that makes items for the
famous acts including Chris Angel and they cannot understand his motivation.

Well - although I do watch his shows, I find Criss Angel mildly
annoying. The whole concept of making a "reality show" about magic is to
freaky for me - I mean - magic isn't about reality. Then on the other
hand Criss bullshits the people all the time with his magic abilities as
if he had been born with them - there's nothing wrong with patter, but
he's too self-obsessed in my opinion. Have you noticed how he always
approaches people by saying "Hello, I'm Criss Angel, I have my own
TV-show" or something like that - as if he were the most important
person in the world.

And then he almost entirely relies on self-working tricks - I wouldn't
presume that he'd stand a chance in an impromptu close-up duel with many
other magicians.

And then his whole "stunt" bullshit. First he shows you how he "trains"
for a big stunt, and then it turns out that the stunt isn't performed by
him in the end, or that it is a big trick. Remember the
piercing-helicopter-flying trick? Oh man - was that such a big pile of
steaming bullshit and some people still argue that it was a proper
"painful" stunt - as if they hadn't seen the pencil-through-skin trick
performed by an 8-year-old or the trick where a coin moves under the
"skin" of the magician - a guy that does things like that couldn't
POSSIBLY fake being hung up by his skin and lifted by a helicopter.

I like to compare him with David Blaine (it seems as if they are
compared to each other all the time) - they do a similar kind of magic,
but Blaine does IMHO less magic-bullshit - more often than not he just
lets the trick speak for him and I love the way he sometimes acts as if
he were surprised by the outcome of the trick himself or he wouldn't
know how it worked.

I don't want to diminish Criss Angel's achievements, but I'd like to
stress that I don't like his style - in comparison with e.g. David
Blaine (although he isn't my favourite magician - I like e.g. Daryl
better, now that I know his name after watching him perform :-D)

I totally agree with you - if Criss Angel only changed his style, then
he could really become a great magician (from a magician's point of
view). But as it is he's just a big show-off without any finesse to me.

I always felt David Blaine was a thug who tried to intimidate people.
But lately he has earned my respect, the man has guts.

Actually I have an idea for a reality show based on magic. A famous magic
pro shows some illusions to a bunch of wannabees. During the next few days,
they try to build props to match the pro's performance. The pro and TV
audience rate the wannabees and vote for the winning team who stays on to
compete the following week.

You read it hear first.

Personally, I'm a big Criss Angel fan. I find his magic and style compeling and easy to watch. Not everyone agrees, but that's what opinions are for.

Interesting how one reads another... "as if he were the most important person in the world". The reality is much different. With the MindFreak move to 10pm EST their share increased to 1.69 million viewers. Compare this to say and episode of Sponge Bob Square Pants which is often in the Cable TV top 10 with an adverage of 5 million viewers. Now given that there are about 276 million people in the US, less than 1% of the population is watching MindFreak.

When Criss approaches people and introduces himself "Hi, I'm Criss Angel, I have a tv show on A&E"... It's because there is a good chance they have no idea who he is. Ever see the out takes where the people ignore him and keep on walking? They would probably stop for Sponge Bob.
