Effect: Magi goes into the audience and finds any spec or let's the
audience do so. (Free choice) They get someone taller than them
though. Both the magi and spec come back on stage and the magi tells
the spec he/she is about to help with an experiment. Magi tells the
spec that they are about to be the first person to feel an Invisible
Touch. But of course the spec is told they are not aloud to see it
(hence invisible). The magi blindfolds the spec and instructs him/her
to hold both their arms straight up as high as possible. Magi picks up
a sheet and steps behind the spec. The audience can see the magi is
shorter and standing behind the spec. The magi puts the sheet in front
of spec and reaches around with both hands to hold it. The magi then
pulls the sheet up but not high enough to where the specs hands and
part of their arms can't be seen. The magi then pulls the sheet back
down and is now in front of the spec. He/she asks the spec if they
felt anything. They say no and you say thank you and have them remove
the blindfold. The audience has just seen you melt right through the
spec. Magi thanks the spec for their help and they take their seat and
the magi takes the applause.
Method/Prep: The secret to this is real simple. You need a sheet that
is not see through and it needs to be about 6 to 6 1/2 feet tall and
about 4 feet wide. More if you need it. You need to sew a pvc pipe
into the top of the sheet. You need to get two magnets that hold
pretty well. Attach one to the right side of the pipe where you hold
it. You now need to buy a Third Hand Gimmick. If you don't know what
it is, it is a fake hand. Now attach the other magnet to the inside of
the third hand gimmick. Now get a simple piece of dark black fabric or
a regular blindfold like they have for sleeping. That's all the prep
needed. Simple huh.
Performance: Sometime during the show you put the third hand in your
pocket. When you are ready for this just make sure the stage hands get
the right sheet. Go into the audience and choose someone taller than
you, maybe 6 inches taller will do. Bring them back to the stage and
tell them about invisible touch. Bring out a blindfold and make sure
it is on right so they can't see. Put your hands in your pockets
(getting the gimmick on your hand) and ask the spec how many fingers
are you holding up. They should say none or I don't know unless they
can see. This is just a running joke for the quickest misdirection.
Now go and grab the sheet and let it unfold and show both sides. Ask
the spec to raise their arms straight up in the air and while they are
doing this, you will be holding the sheet in your right hand which has
the gimmick on it and by holding it here you have let the magnets
connect. Now go right up behind the spec. Reach around in front of
them with the sheet and take hold with your left hand as well. Now,
lift up the sheet and let go with the right hand. You are now going to
move around to the left of them and in to the front. Now reach back
with the right hand and move the sheet away quickly to the right. Take
the sheet in the right hand and roll it up around your arm a little
and toss it down with the gimmick in it. It will have appeared that
you melted through the spec. You ask the spec to now lower their arms
and take the blindfold off. You now ask them if they felt anything.
They should say no and you say me neither. You now thank them and have
them take their seat and you take your applause.
Afterthoughts: The third hand gimmick has so many uses. Mostly you see
it used for walking through a mirror, barb wire, and now people. You
can actually get a set of the right and left hand on ebay for about
$14 plus $5 for shipping. You can easily get a sheet from a thrift
shop or get your own fabric for around $5. And a piece of pvc for
about $2. Total this illusion should cost around $25 or less depending
on where you shop. Hope you like it.

Great melting through a person tutorial. This is something anyone can
build into their act for a small budget and some larger investment in
practice time of course
Would people see movement at the side of the sheet when you go round
them, or is there enough space? I didn't quite get that bit...

OK Tammi great question! Now let me answer it to my best: 1.The
easiest way to explain this is, take your legs and spread them as far
apart as comfortable to you. Now get a sheet that fits that length
otherwise stick with the four to five foot.
2. If the sheet fits as I have explained and you practice it enough
there will be no movement when you go from the back to the front so
long as you watch your angles. This is for a stage so you should by
practicing know your sight lines. Close up is completely different,
you need to have more audience control.
Thanks Zaw12: This is meant for people who want to learn some new
illusions and have a tight budget or are just beginning. We will not
show our faces because of legal reasons and we feel it would be stupid
to wear a mask. Sorry no vids, but it shouldn't be that hard to figure
out. If you have a way of forming something you need help with into a
question we would be happy to answer it though.

Ah I think I get this now. They hold the sheet up in front of them,
but I think they would have to hold the sheet a little way off their
body, say 1.5 to 2 feet because you need to move between them and the
sheet without moving the sheet too much at the side?

Tammi, I think you have it right. If you mean the magi for they, then
yes. When you hold the sheet in front of them you are wanting to wrap
your arms all the way around them. With someone not to monstrous you
should be able to hold the sheet about 1 1/2 feet or more in front of
them. It is plenty of room for you to go around. If you need anything

Is the 3rd Hand the gimmick for Andrew Mayne's Gutbuster? I was just
on his site, and one of the versions says it requires a gimmick, or

No the 3rd hand gimmick is not used for Gutbuster.
I think somewhere else on the site if you do a search you should find
something on the Gutbuster though. I would tell you more but I do not
own it, sorry.

for third hand if your aint got one. Print out a high resolution photo
of your hand as it would appear in the illusion. Then cut it out and
stick it to the dowel.

and there been one time at chrysler hall where dc elvador was on floor
too and fat cool boy on stage actavated the elevador as dc slowly
shadowized down ward the fat cool kif walked slowly tawrd the far
right side stage curtain but to him its his far left side on stage and
by the time everyones focused on cool stage illusionist copperfields
appearnce in shadow wize down ward move ment then door open there
