Hi guys!  I tried looking for an answer in the dreamweaver newsgroup but nobody seems to use that!  (At any rate I only saw one post!)

|'ve just started using dreamweaver 3.0 and so far I've created very simple documents which preview in iexplorer okay.  But as soon as I put frames in, when I preview, it keeps looking for the htm's in the wrong folder.  I've checked my site and everything is in one folder, links are fine etc.  Let's say the server is called A, inside is a folder (B), inside that another folder (C), and inside that is another folder (D) which contains all my dreamweaver site stuff.  In the frameset html coding, the individual frames are identified as /X, /Y, and /Z.  I tried removing the / but dreamweaver won't put up with that!  So when I preview, every time the browser points to \\A\B\C\D\TMP00000000.htm

Q1. Why does it point to a temporary file even though EVERYTHING is saved?

Then, whether or not I replace the TMP bit with the correct htm name, although it finds the frameset, it keeps looking for the individual frame htms in \\A and says they are not accessible (which it wouldn't be because they're in \\A\B\C\D).

Q2. Why does it look in the wrong folder?

I've tried redefining sites, making new sites in different folders, just about everything I can think of.  I even did the tutorial on http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/frames/frames_update/ and that didn't work either.  I've tried changing webserver info (in define sites) from none to local/network (the project is for an intranet) but nothing seems to help.

Has anyone else had this problem?  What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Claire

D3 just does previews that way. If its all saved, try just launching the
page locally and it should open regularly.

Thanks for your reply!

What do you mean by 'launching locally'? I've tried opening the htm by
double clicking on it (going through the desktop to get to the folder) and
by typing in the address on my web browser., as well as previewing in
browser from dreamweaver. Nothing works!

Could it be something I'm doing wrong when I define the site in the first
place???

'Hi Clair,

The problem you're dealing with sounds familiar to me...it has to do with the settings within DW3.
You can link files & pages 'document' or 'site' related. First it's a good idea to create a new site under the Site menu so all the content will be related to eachother.
Then, when you select a picture or a link, click the little foldericon right next  to it. You'll see a window in which you can define (at the bottom) if the link is Document related...(It should be...)

This should help you out... if it doesn't...feel free to contact me at ma...@designart.nl

Thanks!  I finally got the answer from:  http://www.lynda.com

Hooray! I have read the messages going back and forth about frames not previewing. I have had EXACTLY the same problem, with various bits of advice from loads of people. I tried recreating simple frames and new sites at least 10 times, with loads of different settings and locations and NOTHING worked...until I read this message at http://www.lynda.com:

"On the frames pallete click on the right frame to select it. In the properties pallete click on the folder icon for Src and select "relative to document".

This actually worked for me! I'm so happy...I thought I'd checked that everything was 'relative to document' and didn't realise that this option came up again just by clicking on the frames pallete!  I was beginning to lose all my hair, and it was almost down to my waist to start with - I was almost a skinhead by late yesterday!
