Is Flash5 really worth getting?

I've read a lot of post about problems with Flash5. I only started learning
Flash4 in June, and I have considered upgrading to Flash5, BUT it seems as
if there are still too many problems with it. What do all you experts out
there think?

Also, IF I do upgrade, what are the benefits to getting Freehand9 with it?
I currently have Adobe Illustrator8 and have never used Freehand.

Cheers!

It愀 actually worth buying Flash5. F5 has a much better layout. It is quite
different form Flash4 and you will need some days to feel home, but then you
can work quite more efficently. Also the ActionScript is far enhanced,
better debugging and better to read. (now very similar to JavaScript)
Altough there are no new "flashing" features in Flash5, it is just better to
handle.
So buy it ;-)

I also like Illustrator more then Freehand, but Freehand and Flash work
quite well together. So i would consider buying both.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the internet. ;-)

Seriously, people post when they have something to say. If things go well then
they'll rarely write that.

Have you tried experiencing the same thing, directly, yourself? There's a free
30-day trial for just this purpose. When you have some time to evaluate it, put
it through its paces, see if you think it will offer you a good return on
investment.

(FreeHand and Illustrator aren't quite the same anymore... both can do single
drawings for export elsewhere, but FreeHand is also a general design tool, a
bit closer to InDesign than to Illustrator now, although with a graphics bent
rather than inDesign's text abilities. Illustrator has now caught up to
FreeHand's SWF export (features are even named the same), but the multipage
creation makes SWF storyboarding easy, the HTML export makes it easy to comp
out sites too, there are advanced tools like perspective and envelopes but even
the simpler tools like Knives work more intuitively. FreeHand has a wider scope
than Illustrator; more overall use.)

Buy the Freehand 9 Flash 4 full package or upgrade (if you qualify) directly
from Macromedia.

You get a free update to 5.

I am very happy with Flash 5. The actionscript windows is a lot better. You
can use a lot more and better commands.
Don't forget the movie explorer and the new panels. I don't want to work
with Flash 4 ever again.

I installed Freehand to experiment in combination with Flash but I never got
to it. Until this day Illustrator does it for me.

I wouldn't go for version5 learn 4 first and then we can switch at the same time
and help each other ;)
