Am considering buying a new Mac with IDE drives. I need to get the stuff off
an old SCSI Mac OS 7.5 disk to the new machine but I only have the old
drive.

Can anyone suggest the best and cheapest method to do this?

Thanks

Stuart

If your SCSI controller in your old machine is PCI you could simply
take out the controller and plug it into the new Mac and hook the SCSI
cable into the drive.

Secondly, (if you don't have a PCI SCSI card already) you could buy a
PCI based SCSI card (Adaptec makes good units), hook it into one of
your available PCI slots enabling you to have SCSI *and* IDE together
in the same computer (like I do).

Thirdly, you could opt to buy a SCSI CD-R drive, Iomega Jaz or Zip
drive and copy all your data from the old hard drive to this portable
media and then copy it over to the new drive later. If your current
computer has SCSI external, USB or Firewire you could buy a multitude
of external storage devices to archive the data for back up purposes,
or more importantly, to transfer data from one computer or hard drive
to the next (what you're needing).

Lastly, you could take your drive out of the computer, take it to a
friend or specialist and have the data transferred to a portable media
or an IDE drive so you can later copy it over.

Good luck,

OR... You could just network them together (presuming the old mac has some
sort of networking gear) and copy the files over the ethernet.
