Friends,

I have been trapped in the Windows world far too long. I am now ready to
switch over, and make the move to Mac. I'm waiting until MacWorld Expo
before I buy, but I am having trouble deciding which way to go PowerBook or
a Power Mac tower. From what estimated I would pay around $400 more to get
the 550 MHz G4 PowerBook that wouldn't be nearly as fast as a 867 MHz G4
PowerMac which also has more cache, and a 133 MHz bus. I have try to
justify buying each through the pros and cons, that I could think of, but
would really like to hear what others have to say. One thing that I would
like to know is; are the PowerBooks reliable, durable, and upgradeable
enough to fill the roll of my main computer, in which I would have on most
of the day. Any problems with overheating them, etc.....
Thanks, and I appreciate any feedback!

Either will be a step upwards :)

I guess it all boils down to one question: are you willing to pay the
premium price for portability and limited expansion?

The PowerBooks are like most laptops - not very expandable. Towers have
room to grow, but most people don't add anything to theirs beyond
another HD (or two) and some more RAM. You can do both to a TiBook (as
we tend to call the PBG4 Titanium), its just a bit more expensive.

Reliability is so good with the latest crop of Apple hardware that it is
no longer an issue.
