Start your url (hyperlink) with http:// and most software if properly
configured will know how to handle it. Same goes for mail. Use mailto:
as in mailto:mari...@sensiblepsychology.com
Depending on what software you use it may not matter if the http:// or
mailto: are there but it doesn't hurt. And the link might not do
anything when you first type your post but again it all depends on the
software. Sometimes the message has to get sent in order for the
recipient to use the link.
Browsers like Internet Explorer don't need the http:// but if the actual
url starts with something like https:// or ftp:// then you will need to
include it.
I am using MT Newsreader to read and post to news groups. If I hold my
command key down and double click on any link, the appropriate software
opens. I use Eudora for e-mail and if the link starts with http:// then
all I do is double click. If there is not http:// or any other kind of
prefix Eudora thinks it is simply more text.
