Hi:
In the risk of sounding one-sided AND getting flamed, I feel I have to
say something about Apple fading iTools out and charging for .MAC Services.

We all know that Apple is up against some major influnces in the PC
industry, including Microsoft. Microsoft has done an ample job with
promoting the IBM compatible PC so it can sell its Windows operating system.
In doing so, Microsoft has spent billions of dollars in research and
development, product development, and advertising. Microsoft has
successfully "brain washed" the world in to believing that a PC is not a PC
unless it has its highly overpriced, buggy, Windows all over it. Because of
this, Micrsoft has unlimited funds in its pockets.

On the other hand, you have Apple Computers. Apple had a number of
years where the leadership was less then poor. Apple was almost bankrupt
until Steve Jobs took over the rings again and saved Apple from a certian
bankrupty. Their were a number of years where Apple was no turning over any
profits, morral was low, and their was talk about Apple closing its doors
for good. Those number of years without proper leadership drained Apple to
no end, both financially and with its reputation.

Everyone has to remember that Apple is still "recovering" from those
years without proper leadership, and they have to get the financial funds
where ever it can to stay ahead of the PC industry. I dare anyone in this
Newsgroup to try and bring a company back from the dead and to come up with
a "killer app" in the amount of time that Steve Jobs did.

If someone doesn't want to pay the $99.95 per year (which I do agree IS
a little steep) then that person is moe then welcome to go somewhere else.

I'd rather pay for some exclusive Apple services and help the company
stay a-flot then to have another "door stop" sitting in my closet, along
with my Commodore 64, TI-99/4A, Amiga, Atari, etc.

My two cents,
Dan

About five years ago I picked up an Atari 64k (my first) , with a color
printer (also used thermal paper) and a floppy drive(800mb) for $5. You can
find some good deals at yardsales around 5:30 on a Sunday afternoon. It was a
pain to use but it was an educational experience. Got a half assed
understanding of programing out of it along with some neat ,very classic
games. And believe it or not , someone actually stole it out of my house .
And it's ALWAYS worth a few bucks to keep Bill Gates out of the house.

It's 800KB, not MB. And I dont' think that everyone is suggesting that Apple
provide the improved services for free. I think that the most logical and
fair course of action is for Apple to provide the basic services they have
been with iTools for free and provide a Pro set of features for fee. This is
what they do with their QuickTime software and it is reasonable to expect it
from their web services.

Now, are we talking about Apple charging is order to stay afloat????
Or, do they all want a raise? Thats the difference for me.
If they need to stay afloat, I'm in.
If its corporate greed, I'd just as soon, live in the woods with no
computer or TV.
dig?

In article <3D4B98AC...@chicagonet.net>,

Nothing is free.

Go ask where your free mail account is on Microsoft's network. Hotmail has been
cut back so much that it is all but useless.

It might actually be that they want to cover their costs?

But, you've already said how much you dislike the Mac you own, Go back to your
PC.
