__?__?__?__?__?__?__? JOKE OF THE WEEK ?__?__?__?__?__?__?__?_
While cruising at 40,000 feet, the airplane shuddered and Mr.
Benson looked out the window.
"Good lord!" he screamed, "one of the engines just blew up!"
Other passengers left their seats and came running over;
suddenly the aircraft was rocked by a second blast as yet
another engine exploded on the other side.
The passengers were in a panic now, and even the stewardesses
couldn't maintain order. Just then, standing tall and smiling
confidently, the pilot strode from the cockpit and assured
everyone that there was nothing to worry about. His words and
his demeanor seemed made most of the passengers feel better,
and they sat down as the pilot calmly walked to the door of
the aircraft. There, he grabbed several packages from under
the seats and began handing them to the flight attendants.
Each crew member attatched the package to their backs.
"Say," spoke up an alert passenger, "aren't those parachutes?"
The pilot said they were.
The passenger went on, "But I thought you said there was nothing
to worry about?"
"There isn't," replied the pilot as a third engine exploded.
"We're going to get help."

_+( __ +( __ +( RED CROSS & RED CRESCENT NEWS +( __ +( __ +( _
Ten and seven year-old Amel and Dzenita have suffered greatly
from the horrors of war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Their
psychological state has been upset dramatically, affecting
their ability to speak.
Amel and Dzenita, and many emotionally-scarred children like
them, need help with their speech difficulties to communicate
with the world around them again. A local humanitarian
organization, Lotus, provides that help through its "Peter
Pan" speech therapy programme in the Zenita Hospital.
With the financial support of the International Federation
and the Austrian Red Cross, Lotus was able to acquire the
necessary equipment for audio analysis. The medical staff use
this equipment to develop a custom-made speech therapy for
every young beneficiary.
The speech-analysing machine produces correct tones, and
corrects the children's pronunciation. Earphones allow the
patient to hear the difference between his/her own voice and
the sought after pronunciation. The children can learn to
speak properly with this technique.
Under the programme, 15 Red Cross volunteers are helping
approximately 200 children to recuperate and to re-enter
society as communicative young people. Hopefully, within
the next six months Amel and Dzenita will again show the
vitality and spontaneity of youth.
PLUS Lotto support the International Federation of Red Cross
and Red Crescent societies.

Zotov Exhibition
Many prominent figures and a large number of invited guests
and interested people attended the opening of the exhibition
about Eugen Zotov, entitled "Traces of Exile" in the rooms of
the National Art Gallery in Vaduz on 28 September.
The curator of the National Art Collections, Friedemann Malsch
welcomed those present, especially the representative of the
Russian Federation in Switzerland and in the Principality of
Liechtenstein, the Ambassador of the Ukraine in Switzerland,
the representative of the Ministry for Culture and Art in Kiev,
representatives of the museums of St. Petersburg, Poltava,
Odessa and Njepropetrovsk, which had contributed works of art on
loan, the grand-daughter Nanina Modler and the grand-son Michael
Modler, who now live in Paris and Munich, as well as the Head of
Government Mario Frick and the President of the Zotov Foundation,
former Head of Government Hans Brunhart.
The catalogue accompanying the exhibition, which provides an in
depth look into the life and work of Eugen Zotov, who grew up in
the Ukraine and lived in Liechtenstein from 1938 to 1953, and
which represents his work in masterly manner, can be considered
a treasure in its graphically excellent presentation. The
exhibition, which will be shown until 18 January 1998, will later
be taken over by the Tretjakov-Gallery, Moscow. It is also planned
to show the exhibition in Berlin, where Eugen Zotov lived from 1921
to 1934.
