mosler safe won't open

My grandparents have a safe that was left to me. The serial number on the handle 227035. The combination reads
L 4 15
R 3 70
L 2 40
R 1 34
Obviously I am not working it correctly. Anyone that could offer advice would be greatly appreciated.

Turn the dial to the left (CCW) four or more full turns and stop on the
number 15.

Then turn it to the right (CW) and stop on the number 70 the THIRD time
it comes under the index.

Then turn the dial to the left (CCW) and stop on the number 40 the
SECOND time it comes under the index.

Then turn the dial to the right (CW) and stop on the number 34 the FIRST
time it comes under the index.

Then turn the handle to open.

your case to the left) until the dial stops. It will only be a small bit

Any other suggestions? I have tried both and it doesn't open. The dial never gets to a point where it stops. What else could I be doing wrong. Any trick to the handle. It is an Antique safe. Thanks for any help.

Try:

Left (CCW) three or more full turns, stop at 15
Right (CW) and stop at 70 the SECOND time it comes to the index
Left (CCW) and stop at 40 the FIRST time it comes to the index
Right (CW) and if you're really lucky the dial will stop turning and
lock up at 34.

Turn handle.

Alternatively try both this and the earlier instructions in the other
direction just in case the original writer couldn't tell left from
right. Serial number won't be any help. Maybe put a picture of the dial
and handle on Flickr, etc. and post a link here.

The Mosler safe I have requires you to turn to 0 after the last number is entered.
