I (thru Champion Lock in New Orleans) did work for McGunn 0n
6/9/99 $395.00, 6/26/99 $340.00, and 6/12/99 $65.00 and
McGunn refuses to make any payment whatsoever. The person
who contracted for the work is no longer there, Their
accounts payable people refuse to return phone calls, Mr.
McGunn refuses to return phone calls. I'm told by John (the
AP guy there) that he has no clue about where the invoices
we sent in are because he was not working there in June...

I would recomend that anyone getting a call from McGunn safe
require either payment at the time service is rendered
either from their customer OR by means of corporate credit
card.

I have personally had this problem in the past with McGunn
while doing work for them under MY company entity. In this
instance I was sub-contracted by CHAMPION and now Champion
is getting screwed by McGunn as well...

Now, while talking to the end user RiteAid Corporate offices I'm
told that they no longer use McGunn for a vendor.... I wonder
why....

Now I know why, according to the director of the Retail Facilities
Group the reason that Rite Aid no longer does business with McGunn
is that RiteAid found out that McGunn was not doing the work
themselves, that they were sub-contracting it out and that the
sub-contractors were not being paid by McGunn....Anyone wishing to
confirm any of this can verify this by calling 717-730-8271

They've been pulling this scam for close to ten years now. I don't
understand why you didn't warn Champion about their track record with your
company? It could have saved them a lot of grief.

McGunn is a dirty word in our field but they still get away with it, we must
all be stupid. I have seen other locksmiths post telling that they called
back for the person 5 minutes after they recieved a service call and were
told that person does not work here any more. They give slime a bad name,
and yes I know from experience.

Remember they only lie when their lips move.

I'm not sure I didn't mention it to Bo. but I WAS able to collect on my
incident with them and I WILL collect from them on THIS incident if I have to
go find Ed Mcgunn's house and visit him in person.... (With a SUMMONS AND
COMPLAINT - no threats from me here....)

I don`t disagree with what your doing, but in many states and provinces it
is illegal to talk about a bad debt in a public forum such as this.

Hmmm... discussing a bad dept in public forum is pretty harsh medicine, but
it shouldn't be illegal. If it is true, it is not libel or slander. A man
who does not want to be known as a hard-pay should endeavor to pay his debts
in a timely fashion. If there are laws against making an unpaid and overdue
debt public knowledge, such laws are, IMHO, misguided, and in this country,
unconstitutional.

it seems to me a credit report also makes public weather or not you pay your
bills on time and that is not illegal so posting a companies bad payment history
here is just a credit report ...

To the best of my knowledge, the only statute even reasonably close is the
US FEDERAL LAW - FAIR DEBT COLLECTION PRACTICES ACT.
This law prohibits COLLECTION AGENCIES from making 3rd party disclosures.
This was put into place so that an AGENCY working for a company could
NOT talk to debtors employer, friends, co-workers etc. to coerce payment.

My intent here is NOT to embarass or coerce payment (that will come in court),

my intent is to WARN OTHER LOCKSMITHS about this company's disgusting
record and practices.

I'm sure McGunn makse some dandy products and probably have some very
good attributes to their company but the way they handle their payables to
locksmiths sucks. If they paid their lock or steel vendors the way they pay
their locksmiths they would have no raw materials to make safes with...

I don't know about that, I installed six of their drop safes a few months
ago. I don't want to get into detail but after having to make slight
adjustment to compensate for anchoring problems I am very confident that I
could open one.

The way you deal with McGunn is to either have their customer pay for
services upon completion of the job and let McGunn remburse them or
should the safe/door need to be returned to the shop for repair keep
the safe/door until you are paid in full.
