What is your FTP server?

Also, what is your distribution/version?

Any file starting with a period doesn't show up in a regular directory
listing. Use ls -la to see them (if you're using a GUI ftp client, then
it should have some option for setting the directory listing command it
uses).

I am using a GUI ftp client. If it has a feature for setting the listing
command i cant find it. however i dont think this is the answer in
this case although its a good point.

In the past i have connected to servers using the same GUI client
where i have been able to view the .htaccess files, therefore the
server setup must be such that they are viewable by default or at
least viewable by default with FTP

thanks
Quentin

You have yet to tell anyone WHAT ftp client you use. As you are posting
from MSOE, is it even a Linux question.

The answers you have been given(with your limited input) were right on the
money. e.g., Look for a list command....You say you cannot find it, and
then claim that it must be something else. You have hit upon the GREAT
CONSPIRACY: While you sleep, all GUI ftp clients were patched through the
use of DirecTV satellites to remove all traces of that "feature".

In the future, please give AT LEAST the name of the fsckin program!

mate you have had way too much coffee...
actually if you payed closer attention you will notice
that i did add a comment in this thread detailing
which FTP client i use, although i suspect which
FTP client is unimportant as i think this is a server
issue, if you know better please let me know
