RH Linux Kernel Update - i686

Hi All,

Originally, I had RH9 updated to kernel version 2.4.20-20.9 i386, however I
recently installed the i686 complied version of the kernel. The system does
seem to run much faster, however it still reports that the hardware platform
is i386 (when using "uname -i"). Is this correct? What version should it be
reporting given I'm running it on a AMD Duron?

print the hardware platform

Other platform type include alpha, mips, ppc, sparc, x86_64 and others.

I have the same config prob w/ grub 2.4-18.14. my idebus only reads 33mhz
when it is 66mhz. other resources are unavialable to their fullest as well.

I just did a kickstart and loaded the options in LILO instead and everything
is fine.

I was going to post and ask the same sort of question. I installed RH9 on an old P2 it ran slower than molassis in alaska. I added another
memory chip to up it to 128 and am currently running all the patches. But was wondering if this was how slow RH usually is.
