Secondly, does Wubi work with Windows 7?
You need to shrink down the ntfs partition, that can be done with gparted,
which you can legally download from gparted.sourceforge.net

Maybe, maybe not, I don't recommend it (I don't recommend any *ubuntu).

I found Ubuntu 9.04 to work very well
but I recommend *against* using Wubi
I think the current recommendation is that you use the shrink tool in
windows 7 (Don't ask me where it is I don't use win 7) apparently it
allows you to shrink the partition more than Gparted and is faster.
Gparted is on the Ubuntu Live CD but strangely does not in install with
Ubuntu. It is in the Synaptic.

Wubi does not work on Windows 7 - yet. Your options are VMware or dual
boot.
Good luck and have fun.
