Hi all,

recently I tried to transfer a new and proper opensuse 13.2 installation
from one disk to another to not need to do work all from scratch again.

So, someone recommended clonezilla and I got the most recent version
2.4.2 i586 and made a CD out of it.

Creating backups from the 2,5" SATA source disk runs without any problem.
The checksums fit and clonezilla's selftest claims that both of my disk-
based, as well as partition-based backups could be restored easily.

Now, when trying to restore either of those backups, clonezilla fails and
says something like "This is not partclone image." Even after clonezilla
verified what it just stored.

Does anyone know what's wrong here?

I spent so much time with that lousy tool that I'm now slightly running
out of time now...

Thanks for info,
best regards,

Markus

On http://sourceforge.net/p/partclone/discussion/638474/thread/0f3c3df3/
this type of error appears, when partclone does not have read permission
for the image.

greetings chrigu

PS: I use clonezilla (mostly with pxe-boot over betwork to restore clients)
a lot an like it.

Hi Rudolf,

could you please point me in the right direction, which of those messages
you mean?

One common problem clonezilla faces is when using a smaller target disk
than source disk, but this is not the case here. Source is 64GB and
target is 80GB. Besides this, the filesystem is always ETX3 in any case.
So, it should work?!

What was wrong with your configuration?

Best regards,

Hi Chrigu,

thanks for your hint -- indeed, for security aspects I had set up an
additional user who has only read permission to the images via SSH!

And, full-ack to what the page states, which you mentioned:

The error message thrown by clonezilla is highly misleading :-)

Thanks,
best regards,

Markus

Hi Markus,
sorry, I was wrong. My problem was to copy a partition to onother
partition on the same drive. And this worked by the way described in the
FAQ.
