Administration: Many furries will post a revised Furvey to
alt.lifestyle.furry every few months or so, and I will quite happily accept
these for processing. However, a change of email address or name can often
confuse this poor foxy when it comes to archiving the collected Furveys.
So...
0) If you are posting a revised copy of your Furvey, then please list below
your current -and- previous email address(es) and name(s): (if you want to

Being furry
-----------
23) How does furriness influence your life?
In subtle ways. Interest in lions does give one a different view on the
world. Understanding the balance between violence and tenderness.

No but it does come to mind very easily
25) Was your furriness evidence from a young age?

are spiritually connected to, or which enhance/influence your life]
Lion
28) How, and when, did you realize your furriness?
Dating myself I’d say back in the 60s (lion fur suit for party & it seemed
so right) but I didn’t have a name for it then.

By accident, It has been through a friend I have discovered my link to
animals is something more then most people have.
30) Do you think that your (human) body resembles, in any way, an animal?
(e.g. long, slender feet)
Yes, not many people in my position sport the hair (mane) that I do.
31) Do you think that your personality resembles that of an animal/furry?
Yes in some unfortunate ways. I can quickly go from calm to fiercely angry
much like a lion. Secretary at work sometimes warn other staff that ‘the
lion is out today’. But I can also lay on a lap, purr contentedly and
lovingly as well (and yes I know lions don’t purr)
32) Would you prefer to not feel furry?

33) What kind of furry interests/hobbies do you have?
Reading/researching lions, costume and make up for lion. Have also begun

I’m proud of who and what I am which includes being furry.
36) Have you ever worried about your 'furriness'?
No

Childish, perhaps but being childish is a state of mind and sometime very
beneficial. Weird; well others would put me there but I prefer ‘different’.
38) Did you every attempt to seek professional advice/write to a problem
page?
No
39) Have you ever had a furry dream?
Yes, Some very pleasant ones.
40) Do you have them on a regular basis?
They seem to come in streaks, two or more nights then none for perhaps a
month or more.
41) Do you wear 'furry' clothes? (not necessarily fursuits)
I have a number of lion photo T shirts and am always looking for more.
42) How do you act furry in public/in private/with friends?
(furry and non-furry friends)
Just about everyone knows my interest in lions & how quick I can get
distracted by that. Several time I have used my furry as a Halloween
costume (even did Beast; lion of course, at work 2 years ago.)
43) Do you collect items relating to your phenotype? e.g. statues, plushies
etc.
Let’s see: lion calendars, paintings, photo, statues, (lion beanie baby on
top of my monitor). Yah, I’d say so.
44) Do you collect miscellaneous furry items? e.g.books, magazines, etc
Books, videos and some magazine articles. Just subscribed to SubUrban
Jungle.
45) Has a major event in your life ever been affected by your furriness, or
had a furry theme? e.g. a wedding
No
46) Do you think you are furry for a reason, if so, why?
I do feel a close kin with lions & if my friend is correct that is my
guardian spirit. While I respect natural religion I am Christian and I’m
not sure how that fits in with me (even though I like the sound of it).
Still God do make all things work for the good.
Being 'truly' furry
-------------------
47) What would you most/least like about being 'truly' furry?
Most: The senses, being able to smell, hear, see the way a lion does. They
have great tails too. I’d love to be able to give someone a loving swat with
my tail.
Least: Cleaning certain parts of my body with my tongue.
48) Do you ever worry about being furry not being as you imagine?
No, maybe because its such a remote possibility.
49) Would you worry about being shunned by society/friends/family if you
became 'truly' furry?
For a long time I’ve lived by the "I am what I am" theory. If others have a
problem with it, so long as I’m not hurting anyone, then its their problem
not mine. I am certain work would reject me, society most likely as well,
true friends would accept it (some would love it).
50) Would you (given the chance) live in a furry-only world?
Yes
51) Would you become an animal/furry (assuming you could change back), given
the chance?
Yes, It would be a great experience. Might be tough to come back to human
if I had to do that.
52) Would you become an animal/furry (assuming you *couldn't* change back),
given the chance?
I’d have to think about it if it ever came to that but as I see it now, Yes
53) Do you ever fantasize about being 'truly' furry?
Yes, especially after a good show on lions.
54) Describe your furry alter ego.
Full lion form (no fingers or the like); 3 ½ to 4 foot tall (ground to top
of head) 9 foot long, 450 to 500 lb., golden-tan fur, black mane reaching
over shoulder and down belly (typical Cape or Barbary lion) I guess I would
still like to be able to communicate somehow.
Friend has suggested I should have a more "toon" or "anthro" version; OK
think Mufasa with a black mane reaching over shoulder and down belly and the
ability to grasp with his front paws, stand upright when he wants to and
talk.
55) Is your furry alter ego a carnivore/vegetarian/ominvore?
Carnivore, but in my anthro form I promise to behave at The Watering Hole.
Furry fandom
------------
56) What furry things do you watch/read? e.g. films, cartoons, books etc
Fiction: Some fantasy novels, Thunder Cats on TV, Lion King I & II,
recently discovered Suburban Jungle. None fiction: Anything I can see or
read on lions.
Religion
--------
57) Are you religious?
yes
58) What religion are you?
Roman - Catholic
59) Do you think that being furry is like a religion?
No
60) Does being furry make you question your religion/beliefs?
No, we’re all God’s creatures whether we’ve got two or four legs, fur or
not.
Other people
------------
61) Are there others in your family who are furry?
No
62) Do you worry about people knowing about your furriness?
Not really. Those who know me wouldn’t be surprised.
63) Are there people who are intolerant of your furry lifestyle?
There are some people who are intolerant to my lifestyle period. I don’t
fit into any of their nice little boxes so they don’t approve. If they knew
(or knew what it means) I was a furry it would be just one more thing for
them to frown about.
64) How do you cope with these people?
I just act the way I want and need to. I ignore them for the most I guess.
If they get in my face about it I give as good as I get. (The lion comes
out you might say)
65) Do you know someone who might be furry, but isn't aware of it?
I’m pretty sure I do (she’s getting a chuckle out of this right now).
Having six cats, her email address has cat in it, she’s done a comic strip
about a cybercat. I’d say she a fur to be. As I think I said earlier, I
knew for a long time what I was, just didn’t have a name for it.
66) How can you tell?
Like minds and interests. Large number of cats. E-mail name.
67) Have you ever introduced somebody into furrydom?
Not yet
68) Is your Significant Other furry?
[i.e. your girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife. Animals don't count!]
No
69) Do you think the world would be better if everyone was furry?
If they continued to be as open minded as the seem now yes it would be.
Still we’d have this predator vs. prey problem.
The Internet
------------
70) What newsgroups do you subscribe to?
[please avoid abbreviations like afd, and include a brief description]
alt.lifestyle.furry, alt.fan.furry, alt.animal.felines.lions,
alt.binaries.pictures.furry
Still looking for other possible groups.
71) What furry-internet activities do you do?
Looked at FurryMUCK, Lion King and African Trails but time is problem for me
to get involved. I did sign up for African Trails just to get started any
way.
72) Do you access FurryMuck (or similar), to live out a virtual furry life?
Love to if I had the time.
73) How important do you think the Internet is in your furry lifestyle?
Very, Most of my furry activity will be here considering how limited I am at
getting out to Cons and such. Weekends are often work days for me.
74) Do you access/did you join the Internet just for the furry stuff?
No, much of my work demands some use of the internet.
75) Do you have your own web page/FTP site?
Not yet (shoe maker’s children syndrome I’m afraid) but hope to have one up
by end of year.
76) What kind of things are on it?
I intend to have some good lion pictures and info, perhaps some stories and
links to both lion and furry sites.
77) How did you discover the online furry community?
A search for information on lions for some writing I’m doing turned up
FurNation and a couple of other fur sites. That was all it took.
Furry community
---------------
78) How did you discover the furry community?
From FurNation site
79) Are you glad that you discovered the 'furry community'?
Yes, It’s good to be among your own kind.
80) How have you benefited from the 'furry community'?
Some good info, grand discussions and a lot of good humor.
81) Have you met (real life) furries?
I’m not sure. I have met others in fur costumes at some events but I couldn
’t say they were furries. I’m looking for a Fur Con in the north east that
I might get to.
82) Do you often go to furry gatherings? e.g. Confurence, informal
gatherings
No. I get to one Sci Fi con a year but would be willing to add a Fur Con to
the schedule (providing work doesn’t mess that up).
83) What activities do you participate with other furries in real life?
I would be interested in costume and make up. I might be able to do some
teaching in those areas as well depending on the needs
Animals
-------
84) Do you own any pets, or have access to animals? (stables etc)
No. Current living situation does not permit it. My sister has a dog and a
horse but no cats.
85) Would you like to own some pets, or have access to animals?
Yes, I’ll have (you never own a cat) a cat as soon as I can. If I had
twenty year and a couple of acres of land I’d have a lion.
86) Do you work / have you ever worked / do you want to work with
animals/furries?
I have worked with animals in the past (raised on a farm) and would like to
work with animals in the future. If I could help care for a lion I’d love
it.
87) Do you 'bond' easily with animals?
Yes, at least certain ones. I have had some incredible short term bonding
with lions I’ve visited.
88) Do you agree with hunting?
Real hunting is part of natures plan. I don’t see going out with high power
guns, scent lures and traps, telescopic sights and all as hunting.
89) Are you concerned about the environment?
Yes
90) About cruelty to animals?
Yes, We recently got a law passed helping in that area.
91) What are your favourite kinds of pet?
Cats, German Shepherds are OK too. (Kamau[full lion version] thinks they
make great toys, they make noise when you pounce on them. Just have to be
careful because they break easily. <grin><joke>)
92) Are you interested in real animals as well as furries?
Very much so.
93) Do you have a greater-than-average knowledge of your phenotype(s)?
i.e. do you own books on wolves or foxes, etc.
Yes, I continue to learn as much as possible about lions.
94) Do you ever get annoyed about how animals (in particular, your
phenotype) are portrayed in fables/mythology?
Yes, at least in some small ways. I think we’re too often the heavy or bad
guy(lion).
95) Have you ever/do you enjoy watching animals in the wild? e.g. lions on
safari, foxes in your backyard etc
I have been known to drive for hours to get to a park and do nothing but sit
by the lion habitat.
96) What is your least favorite kind of animal/pet?
Snakes
97) Do you read books/magazines/etc about animal spiritualism and other
furry lifestyle topics?
As stated above I read what ever I can find on lions and that sometime
crosses over into these topics. Most of my animal spiritual knowledge has
come from a friend who is very much in tune with it.
Sexuality
---------
98a) What is your gender preference?
You can either specify your answer by checking the appropriate box:
[X] Heterosexual (attracted to opposite sex)
[ ] Bisexual (attracted to same sex and opposite sex)
[ ] Homosexual (attracted to same sex)
...or if you want to be more exact, on a scale ranging from
0 (strictly heterosexual) to 9 (strictly homosexual):
98b) What are your sexual preferences and activities?
I’ll pass on this one. Get to known me first.
99) Does outdoors sex make you feel more furry?
N/A
100) Do you prefer humans, animals, plushies, furries, or are they equal?
N/A
101) Is your sexual orientation with humans the same as it is with animals?
N/A
102) What species of animal do you find sexy?
N/A
103) In what aspects of your sexuality are you open? Are non-furries aware
of your furry sexuality (if appropriate)
N/A
104) Do you enjoy sex with animals and humans simultaneously?
N/A
105) Are any of your plushies anatomically correct?
No. Those seem to be rare. I wouldn’t object to having one that was.
106) It is a common case for many furries to live their lives as
heterosexual, and then through furry to discover their attraction for the
same sex, (be it same sex humans or furries) - is this the case with you?
No
107) Has your discovery of being furry made you re-evaluate your sexuality?
No
108) Do you feel you are more open sexually due to furriness?
No
109) Do you enjoy casual sex with furries/non furries?
No and No
110) Do you practice safe sex?
Always
111) How do your masturbation fantasies involve furries? (if appropriate)
Visualizing normal mating.
112) Does sex in a fursuit make you feel more furry?
N/A
113) Do you compare a relationship (sexual or not) as being analogous to a
pack or pride behaviour?
Yes, I am definitely pride originated.
PattyCat Says: "Well now you’ve done it you silly lion."
Yes, I’ve jumped in with all four paws and hoped for the best. I just hope
real life doesn’t get in the way, this is too much fun.

*smile* I loved Thundercats when it was on tv, and I must admit to being
a drooling Lion King fan. I'm trying to get all the Kiara stuff I can. When
I worked in a mall, I'd love going into the Disney store and see the cast
member's reactions when they saw my nametag, (my "rl" name is
Kiara) and the Kiara sticker I resolutely refused to remove from it. :).

I once was blessed with the opportunity to hold a lion cub for a brief
period of time. I'll remember that moment for the rest of my life. :)
I think I might have done something weird to my original reply, so if this
is a double, ignore it :)

No, they don't have the "equipment" to purr. But they do "rumble",
a purr-like sound made on exhaling only (purring can be done on
inhaling and exhaling). Close enough for me! :)

Are you aware of the Hudson Fur group?
http://www.agoron.com/~falcon/furry/hudsonfur/index.html
Anyone else in the general area? The next gathering is November 6th.
This is 2 1/2 hours from me on a Saturday that I currently have free. This
would be the first chance for me to get together with some other furs since
I came out of the tall grass. As I read the message its open to any fur so
I'll see if I can make it. I just hope I can find the mall (it's off SR17?)
and spot the group. I should be easy to spot, look for the long haired guy
with a lion T-Shirt. The trip to the zoo sounds great, hope they have good
lion exhibit.
Lumen Photofox mentioned a place for lifecasting kits, RTV silicone molding
stuff, etc. which for me sounds interesting. Hope to see some furs face to
face.

Yes, I have heard of them. Unfortunately I am at the other end

who used to spend down time there
My condolences. This is a horrid area. I will be SO glad when
I can move to LA (I would settle for going back to Philly, as long as
I could get away from here). No culture (well LA has a BIT more than
here) no work (especially in my field), and no fun, all in all no
place to live.
Yep, Binghamton is in the middle of the flat part of the state
about midway between NYC and Montreal (which I prefer over NYC). Any
place interesting is a 2 day trip from here,(unless you like to drive
3-4 hours one way spend an hour or so, then drive back exhausted).
Ah well, at least I shouldn't have to put up with it much
longer.

I know what you mean. I lived in Rochester for about 10 years and the only
thing that kept me from going completely nuts (some might say I didn't
succeed) was getting back to my country home about once a month or running
away for the weekend to Canada with some friends.
A sea otter wanders up to Kamau. Noticing the furvey he sits down next
to the lion and leans up against the lion's mane. "Hi Kamau, I'm Nikas.

The Anthrocon 2000 is in Philly, that doesn't seem to be that far.

Philly has its points (I have relatives and friends there) but
me, I found LA to be rather lifeless and dull. Sort of an endless suburb
where everything was painted the same shade of Bridle Path Tan,
including the landscape. Of course, I've only been there winters, and I

I keep forgetting that my own needs in those lines are
considerably lesser than most. For me Binghamption seems excessively
metropolitan, and the pace of life there would be far too much for me to
take for very long. (The town where I work has a population of 18,000,
and I can't wait to leave at the end of the work day to come home...)

:) Been living like that for 20 years; guess I'm used to it...

You stayed in the Basin, didn't you? Get up into the hills, and you might
get a pleasant surprise. LA's a heck of a microcosm; there's a bit of just
about everything in the area. http://www.waystation.org for example...

I choose my name after looking at several lists of African names. I was
uncertan about keeping it at first but it grew on me. Kamau; pronounced
kah-MAH-oo, means 'quiet warrior' which seemed aproprate for a lion and for
myself as well.

I've found out from a couple of fursons that I missed a Furcon right in my
back yard as it were. Oh well, just my luck I guess. Albany seems to have a
problem keeping any type of Con. I know of two Sci Fi Cons that started here
and have moved & now Anthrocon. I've got to see how my schedule works for
making some of it. I'll look up the site and get more info. Oh yes the
strange object you saw was 'The Egg' which is a theatre on the state plaze.
I have no idea why that design (though it has good acustics) but it
certainly stands out.
Thanks for the welcome.
Nope, I was there in the summer, it's exactly the same.
Yes there are a few green corners, but they are hard to find.
The whole city looks like it was put up temporarily on the 50's and 60's.

I guess so; I do remember it was as flat as I've ever seen
terrain, and I've crossed Nebraska.

I did see the hills, and drove thru them on one trip in (via
Palm Springs - never seen a wind farn before, and you could see how it
was altering the local waether patterns) but they still looked bare.
Course, I'm used to forests too dense to walk thru without an axe...
Suppose I'll have to spend some time down there before it does
the Big Dive into the Pacific...

Hello! Sorry this took so *very* long, I'm still catching up after a
mostly-computerless week. Ick. Anyway, welcome to Homestead! Here's a
cheesecake cupcake--oops, carnivore. Stir-fried beef? :)
