~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To me God represents the greater reality, the reason behind existence
of anything and everything. And the thus, the great unknown.
: 2. Can a person know God? (How?)
Not completely, the universe is so vast and we and our lives are so
small. But through science, philosophy, and other ways exploring who
we are and where we are, we can learn a little.
: 3. Who was/is Jesus Christ?
Something to believe in. Every religion and belief has something.
It doesn't matter if these representatives exsist or not. All that
matters is that a person's belief in their exsistence enrichs that
person's life.
: 4. What is the biggest problem, in you openion, facing humankind
: today?
Overpopulation and lack of values. As mighty as the human race may
seem, someday, something will come along to re-instate the balance
of things.
: 5. What is (how do you define) "sin"?
That which a particular society has deemed wrong.
: 6. How do you fell about the "church" (and/or Christianity) and why do
: you feel this way?
It's a man-made belief for mankind like many others. If it works for
find, so be it.
: 7. How would you define the concept of "salvation"?
Salvation is probably define by what you believe in. For me it means
allows striving to better myself at everything I do each and every
day until the day I die. And who knows, it may even be over then.
: 8. Do you think that there is only one way to reach God? (Elaborate)
No, how to reach God depends on your belief. So there's probably
as many ways as there are beliefs.
: 9. What happens after we die?
Who knows. Nobody in the human race despite what people may say.
But not to worry, when you die you'll either know, which means life
or something after death. Or you'll not know, which means you no
longer exsist. Non-exsistence doesn't sound good, but you won't
even be aware of it because you don't exist.
: 10. How does a person get to heaven?
What is heaven? A paradise with no more pain, saddness, etc.
Without these things, how am I suppose to define happiness? What's
right without left. What's up without down. What's a weekend
without a workweek. And thus, what's good with bad.
: 11. What is your philosophy of life?
Be careful to consider your actions and the people you come in
contact with because you when you die you just may wake up and find
you have to deal with them on another level.
: 12. What do you think is common to world religions? How do they
: differ?
Common - they all try to answers the questions mankind.
Differ - they are customized to fit within the culture of the
particular group of people.
Jeez. You *would* ask. Old post:
I suppose you're right, but unfortunately a large number of the people
who need this sort of Easter Bunny nonsense are the same
people who make up the membership of the Christion Coalition, the
Ayatollahs for Jesus in the Christian Reconstructionist
Movement, and the membership of militant Islamic (and other) terrorist
organizations. They're the ones who "need" to mandate
the idiot creationist disclaimer pasted by law to my daughter's high
school biology textbook, try to stick people in jail or even
execute them (and succeed) for failures to observe mandates and
prohibitions based exclusively on the tenets of their cults, who
launch crusades, jihads, theocracies, heresy trials, inquisitions and
witch hunts. As soon as their need becomes certainty they
begin to see that disagreement is error, that error is evil, and that
evil must be erased at all costs.
Excuse me, but fuck their needs. Little children need to believe in
Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy, but except in pleasant little
movies like Miracle on 34th Street they're also expected to outgrow
that sort of stuff, even though few people have gone to the
stake for failing to put that tooth under the pillow.
They need it? They have access to it. They want to talk to the air,
fine. No Supreme Court decision has ever prevented, for
example, prayer in public schools. It just prevented enforcement of
government insistence on official public group prayer, an
item high on the agenda of your needy people.
Fuck Constantine the Great. That asshole is responsible for more grief
than anyone in history. Lions are the answer.
I travelled in India with this really funny monk, who used to tour
with Arlo Guthrie. Arlo's pretty funny too. Sometimes people take
Christianity too seriously, and say some pretty silly things. I had
to stop watching televangelists because they'd always say something
really funny right when I was in the middle of drinking something, &
the couch got messy.
Who knows? When the early Christians were fed to the lions for the amusement
of the Romans, they sang happy songs. This confused the piss out of the
Romans, and caught their interest, or Jesus would have been long forgotten by
now.
I got robbed in my cab in the South Bronx back in '91 by a crackhead. After
he had my money, he slit my throat. Got the jugular (from the brain) not the
Carotid (to the brain). I drove to the hospital while my life and 8 1/2 pints
of blood fell into my lap. Parked on the sidewalk, walked in the door, said
"Been stabbed", and hit said floor. Force knocked out my glass eye and shot
it across the floor. Woke up with MANY tubes in me. I was dead for 2 minutes.
Somewhere in every religion is a "Do unto others". I believe whatever God is,
this was done to see if the followers of the various religions were actually
reading the fine print. Your religion doesn't matter. You do.
Hmmm...I haven't seen any trash about him on *your* web page...
I saw what he had to say about you and about John on his, and frankly I
Sorry if I offended. I don't know Corey or anyone else here really, and
I guess it seemed designed to ellicit a humorous response. Is this too
serious? This was my first post here, the group certainly seems cool,
That's a good start, perhaps, but Vlad could do better. Even his
*wife* could do better - bathing in milk and the blood of virgins - to
preserve her youth - surely inspired fear in every young girl too ugly
Hmmmm, good point. I was thinking more about "BURN" than "IMPALE" but
why quibble?
Let's invert the stake, pound nails through it, coat it with hot sauce,
and then heat it to a nice glowing red. Even glowing hot the oak should
retain sufficient structural integrity to suit our purpose.
The lady who bathed in the blood of virgins was not Vlad's wife but
another monster of olde, one Elizebth Bathory (?), can't remember
exactly. And yes, I have nothing to compare to her incredible savagery
and bloodlust. She was one to make common monsters tremble in fear. She
was punished by being walled up in her castle room to die .... took a
few years; they didn't execute nobels in the traditional manner..
Bram Stoker picked a lightweight when he chose Vlad as his model. Give
me Lizzy any day for sheer horror. I think they credit her with at least
700 lives ....
Shucks, I'm only an enthusiastic amateur, pounding in my first stake.
Gimme a break.
Good point. A blanket apology would be a good place to start if he
really wants to be an ALSer. I, for one, have a damn long memory when
it comes to BDZ - and feel not one ounce of forgivness.
We're known by the company we keep.
> >>Before you go throwing things at me please give him half a chance to
It will take a year or two to post the HUGE number of apologies he owes
ALSers.
Then there's the rest of the net. After all, if he continues being a
pain in the ass for everyone else except ALS then we're *harboring* one
of useNet's biggest trolls.
ALS is becoming the "Reformed Troll Cave?" We shouldn't do that.
> >I strip you of your Sun Tzu merit badge and scold you most harshly.
Yes, I thought it through. Whatever the mental problems that leads
someone to act like BDZ I feel you are unlikely to have cured them.
Asking him back here is a slap in the face to everyone he's insulted or
harrassed... did he leave anyone out?
I just don't see the value of trying to reform trolls and I think it's
insulting to the troll's victims.
That was done a long time ago. The software didn't work. I killfiled
Ahhh, did he, or didn't he, agree to play nice in our recroom? I
certainly can't complain about random pot shots, having shot a few pots
myself lately. :\
OK ---
Therefore the clever combatant imposes his will on the enemy, but does
not allow the enemy's will to be imposed on him. [One mark of a great
soldier is that he fight on his own terms or fights not at all. [1] ] 3.
By holding out advantages to him, he can cause the enemy to approach of
his own accord; or, by inflicting damage, he can make it impossible for
the enemy to draw near. [In the first case, he will entice him with a
bait; in the second, he will strike at some important point which the
enemy will have to defend.]
How so? I'm trying to get him to obey our rules in the newsgroup - if
it takes making him a part of it to do so then we'll just have to grin
and bear it.
I was trying to move our mostly private conversation back out in the
consequences for what I do.
The simple fact is that ever since I opened a dialog with BDZ and the
rest of us killfiled him and the others, the number of nuisance posts
from HFW in a.l.s has decreased steadily.
I don't care if it *is* a weird strategy - if it works, it works.
Spelling? Spelling? When I deteriorate it's an all-around sort of
thing. But I do some of my best work - and writing - when inebriated.
A few years ago I took three weeks off work and spent the time writing
a dozen programs for my pet project - building a replacement for a
system that didn't exist any more. I finally got my chance to write
an operating system (more accurately, an embeded system), and I had
fun doing it. It worked better than I expected and far exceeded the
design requirements - needless to say, everyone was quite happy. We
still use that system...
To what end? BDZ'z behaviour on an uninhabited NG like alt.hoovers is
no indicator of his mode of behaviour anywhere else. We know his
history and also know [according to bdz] how he loves to wind people up.
Why on earth attempt to make a silk purse from a sow's ear, life's too
short to even bother. I see no parallels here between our resident
flame-originated alser's who demonstrate both their appreciation of ALS
itself and their ability to leave non-ALS baggage at the door.
I don't reckon this constitutes a 'normal' state of affairs for ALS Joe,
I for one haven't 'killfiled' bdz, I just ignore him on ALS - that's
true for others here too I think. It does not imply however, that it's
You could. The difference however, is most know at which point to draw
the line on which are acceptable NG's and which aren't - bdz's
speciality has been to take his circus into non-flame NGs [a.l.s/ a.d.ap
Then you have not paid attention to his recent behavior - he has
withdrawn from another non-flame group recently - that indicates to
me, at least, that he's learning. I may yet end up writing him off,
but I'm having a lot of fun just talking to him - or whatever you want
to call it. How many times do I have to say it? I will *not* censor
someone in a.l.s for what they do elsewhere on the net - it is none of
is everyone's business to see it stopped.
As long as his trolls get ignored it isn't important how or why. Not
that he's had any significant presence here lately - a fact which you
conveniently overlook. He and his associates *could* be sending us
dozens of crossposts a day - but they aren't. Surely, that counts for
something.
Bullshit. The other flamers and Meowers are no better - once you get
into defining "acceptable newsgroups" you're on *very* slippery
ground. It is acceptable to troll any newsgroup you want - sorry,
that *is* the rule - and as long as it doesn't become abusive there's
not a damn thing anyone can do about it. Hence my unconventional
tactics...
>bdz's speciality has been to take his circus into non-flame NGs [a.l.s/ a.d.ap
And his attempts at disruption in "our" groups have failed - miserably
- he even seems to be well-liked in a.d.a.f - that's about 180 degrees
Why not?
Because it's the only way I can reconcile the presence of Meowers here
with my own principles. If I damn BDZ for being nasty to people in
random newsgroups then I can hardly ignore the depredations of the
Meowers in other newsgroups. The only way I can maintain peace *here*
is to ignore, more or less, what people do on other newsgroups.
I don't care what people do elsewhere on the net, their behavior
I will repeat that, ad infinitum.
Errr, the difference being that the Meowers who have participated here
have *all* honored the a.l.s. FAQ and format from the get-go, whereas
the wankers have done their damnedest to wage *war* from the get-go,
*and* to dictate to us what is and is not acceptable in the form of
respectful of our community, and, even more, have actively worked to
help divert inappropriate crosspostings.
Oh, how cute! My new spell checker offered an alternative to
OK, Kitt!
This seems so obvious that I'm surprised no one has pointed it out
yet. For all their yammering about the evil intent of the felines,
said felines have yet to do anything intrusive whatever, except for
one attempt to start a cascade, and they broke that off. The
HalFWits, on the other hand, have done nothing but mess with us, over
and over again, more or less continuously, since their original
arrival. Excuse me, but don't you remember the heinous act on our
part that brought the morons over last time?
Yeah, they've calmed down lately. Maybe you, and your diplomacy, are
responsible. If so, great. Nevertheless, estimation of intent *must*
be backformed from actions. Observation of events is all we've got in
the world. The Meowers don't like HFW. They are so driven by that
dislike that they behave well, contribute positively and generally act
like such bad guys that they get seriously invited to Nawlins. HFW,
on the other hand, are so espousedly concerned about our welfare that
they've done everything within their limited abilities to be a total
nuisance. They get invited to Nawlins, too, but for a different
reason.
Everyone, including you, has reacted pretty negatively to William
Davies. What has he done that hasn't been equalled or exceeded by
this "Zues" critter, or good ole Gilbert? Hell. He's charming
compared to those creeps. Now that he's gotten an idea of what's
going on around here he's made all sorts of attempts to mend fences.
What has HFW ever done but issue illiterate mandates, prohibitions,
ultimata and crazy bullshit?
Is that different to what I said? I'm well aware of the "double life"
some of our regulars lead outside of ALS. To name names, that's Raoul,
Rueben, the 2-Belo, amongst others. That's not the issue, insofar as
without visiting afk-mn, ae, af et al, it's tantamount to invisible and
it's impact on ALS is negligible to non-existent. Not so with BDZ in
stark contrast, leaving aside any activities indirectly related to ALS
he has single mindedly attempted to inflict as much chaos here in ALS as
he knows how to. Quite apart from his own irksome style of constant ego
masturbation, he's resorted to stereotyping the above mentioned ALSer's
as perceivable threats waiting for an opportunity to mess up ALS. Crap
- I don't see that happening, nor likely to happen in the forseeable
future. As I've said before, the concept of flamers choosing to balance
their UseNet life with an alternative such as ALS isn't such a
contradiction in terms, more a reasonable evolution even. BDZ's
one-trick pony hasn't demonstrated any sea change for this one here -
sure, he can behave himself on a.h but until recently that was just a
two-person dialogue and he just loves the attention anyway, makes him
feel important.
We'll just have to see what happens now that others have joined in -
it should be an interesting test.
'Interesting' undoubtly. I've followed it on alt.hoovers since yours'
and bdz's first posts and I've resolutely avoided any input myself this
far, even with the trolls from bdz to do so. It *is* unique in that
it's 'invention' was for the sole purpose of instigating a dialogue and
in that regard it *has* worked. My cynicism is that it's any yardstick
whatsoever, in setting a precedent for his behaviour elsewhere, [ALS for
example] I'm not exactly waiting with bated breath...
Alt.overlords was another non-flame forum that chose not to ignore the
witterings of bdz/hfw despite early protestations to the contrary,
that's no condemnation of a.o's regulars, just another example of bdz's
perception [and response] to a challenge. This bloke is not by any
stretch of imagination a 'team player' - even Gareth considered him to
be a loose cannon. He doesn't experience UseNet in social terms. Most
people eventually grow out of it, bdz appears to be remedial in that
regard.
Time will tell. I may be a pessimist but I'm not resistant to
improvements in any shape or form.
I hear all this talk about BDZ and I have no idea where it's going? I
haven't said anything for a whole bunch of reasons, one being that I
am so much in the middle of the road on this one that I barely have an
opinion one way or the other?
It seems some people are saying that BDZ is welcome here as well as
he doesn't act like BDZ. Why would he want to be here then?
Others say he should be banned or even exterminated. If he wants to
post here, none of us can really stop him?
This all started because one of the meowers made some comment about
the HFW which if I remember right was kinder than half of the stuff
said around here. Gareth got riled and declared war. Will this
happen again if both hfw and meowers are here? Probably so! Will it
happen again if ONLY the meowers are here? Probably so! Will we live
through it? Probably so!
We always have killfiles! The only problem I saw was Zeus made some
rather crude comments to people who were first time posters and I'm
sure he confused the hell out of them. At least they never came back!
I also thought his comments about John's mother blew dead goats but he
did break off?
I've called BDZ everything that walks, crawls and reproduces under a
rock but I don't hate him! I'm not even sure if I dislike him? Some
of his posts have brought a smile to my face and that's worth
something? Even his web page is getting a LITTLE amusing with time.
I do, however, think he can be a horses ass! I have also seen
people around here defend a few of those too? Confusing?
I keep hearing that ALS is NOT a flame group. Well it's sure as hell
not Sunday school either! At any given time someone is tearing
someone a new asshole around here and so what? I recently asked
someone I know to stop in at ALS and here is what he answered. OOPS!
The email is on my other machine but it was something like "All I saw
was a bunch of people arguing. I didn't see anyone who wanted to have
a real conversation so I departed." I thought there were real
conversations going on but that was a view from the outside?
Oh well, please excuse the irrational rambling that has no conclusion
but there it is! I think I just wasted allot of bandwidth saying that
I don't think it makes much difference one way or the other.
ALS: Daycare for the socially degenerate?
>Time will tell. I may be a pessimist but I'm not resistant to
>improvements in any shape or form.
I, on the other hand, *am* a pessimist. At least with regard to
anyone remotely associated with HFW except Gabby and Tom Harden. I'm
concerned that this alt.hoovers business is growing toward a *cordial*
invitation in this direction, and I'm not real happy with it.
Coopting one's enemies is one thing. It's maybe a good idea if
they're better than you? In this case the notion is idiotic. What on
Oh, indeed. Rather timely of you, just when you are hiding under the
cloak of respectability that Joe has so graciously yet thoughtlessly
offered you to help you bridge the obvious chasm that *you've*
created...
You have chosen not to flame here? BARF! What a joke! ALL you have
done in a.l.s. is flame! Now you would pretend to be principled?
BARF! GAG! Please don't insult our intelligence, Zeus. It demeans
you.
No idea about alt.binky.sucks.moose.cock, I figured it was a forum for
fondness for biltong and beef jerk-off.
Have a look in alt.hoovers if you've got some time spare between shots,
it's a NON-FLAME NG mind. I was about to post an invitation to adb but
this'll do instead. Until recently it was an uninhabited newsgroup
which has now become the venue for discussion about UseNet issues - sort
of... dialogue is taking place there between a bunch of folks who
wouldn't normally be talking to each other - not politely anyhow.
Invitations are going out to other NG's to represent themselves there so
drop in, huh? I saw ESIntergalactic was almost upright, his lateral
perspective could further debate quite possibly.
Hey Binks. I hoped you might pop in just to spank that moron and say g'day.
We've lost a few. I left but pulled my head out of my drunk ass and came
back. Kev left and Bird (who is without adequate computer power to
participate) and I are trying everything we can think of to get him to come
back. Jaz has been absent, but we are assured by Leaf that he is ok. Sully
left and I have no idea why (and he will be missed). Oso got a job and, from
what I can ascertain, felt the need to quit adb. Darsy is on a trip and I
look forward to his return (yeah, I know he and I have are moments, but I
like the challenge of trying to win him over). Guido said he was staying but
we haven't heard anything from him in awhile and I thought we were going to
get some good drunken stories about 'Nawlins from him. Gail, the drunken
wench left cuz she felt we don't appreciate her enough...ain't true, but
that's how she felt.
I don't think I have forgotten anybody. If I have it's cuz I'm still drunk
this morning and working on getting drunker, so nobody get your feelings
hurt.
I hope life is treating you well mate.
Be Excellent!
Unless he post-bombs the group, massively cross-posts, or makes threats,
you're right.
> ALS: Daycare for the socially degenerate?
Every ng is - at least part of the time - a "flame group". It is
impossible to cease all flaming within a newsgroup, even if the group is
moderated. For example, a religious nutter just got ripped over on
rec.radio.broadcasting for declaring (among other things) that all
secular radio is the work of the devil (I'm not kidding).
I'm at the point where I don't care if someone sitting at a computer
half a continent (or half a world) away calls me a fuckhead. I have
more important things to worry about, like my ailing car, my downsized
job, and my 2nd laparoscopic surgery next month.
I come to Usenet to relax, to escape from my problems, not to create new
ones.
Relax. Like the Nissan commercial says, "Enjoy the ride!"
Hey Duke, nice to hear yer mate. Thanks for the background on the adb
regulars, I thought I'd lost the plot. Shit, that's a lot of MIA's in
the last few months, I am entirely blameless... it's unconnected I
assure you. <g> It's a bit sad when folks you've known a long while and
shot the shit with move on ~
ADB is a lot like this place in that once it gets inside you things just
aren't ever the same again - they'll be back for sure.
This started out as a crosspost to unrelated NG's to animate the members
into conflict with the other included groups - massive crossposting,
flaming, the usual stuff...
For me, it's had the pleasant bonus of a reunion with good friends and
prompted me to send off some e-mails and drop into ADB for a bit of
banter. I'm editing a.d.b out of the headers in replies after this one
and if the drunkenbastards will do the same, with a bit of vigilance all
round this one doesn't get much mileage.
Anything authored: 'Rubie the Loser' 'yawn' or 'Madog' about covers it
for now...
Geez, that was confusing... O.K., the asshole Lubie the Ruser,
or whatever, crossposted from a.l.s., where I am (or was) reading
this thread, to a.d.b., where Duke gave the status report to
Binky. Am I right so far? Good! Then all I have to do is
crosspost again to alt.pouting.sandwich, and jaZZ will know
that his mates have been wondering where he went, and that'll
close the loop. Except I'll never again know what newsgroup I'm
reading, even if I bother to check the headers, which I hardly
ever do, because it's all obviously getting to be just one giant
newsgroup anyway.
That's the same story we have with one of our a.l.s regulars, Doomie -
I'm hopeful he'll be back but I can't make any predictions as to when.
There actually are some christian people in that group aren't there?
I used to work with a guy who is/was a dj at a christian radio station
in Cleveland--WSUM??. I think he is a station exec. or something
somewhere else now. I saw his sig once and it had
rec.radio.broadcasting or something close in it. Last I heard he had
an aol account jimp???? Haven't talked to him in ages. He used to
pray for me allot! :-)
Bummer, hope that comes to an end. Also hope your hospitalization
hasn't been downsized. Every time I use mine I have to fill out twice
as many forms, can see half as many doctors, and pay twice as much
out of my own pocket. Bastards keep telling me that they are
( upgrading ?) it!
I do the same with music files and reading info off of the web.
Truth is, I seem to be mellowing nicely. I have no idea if it is
cyclical or permanent.
onion rings with whipped cream- yum!
Back sometime in '96 a talented young lady had that line in her sig.
I had seen the "Catsup" and "Ketchup" versions, but none of them
exactly scanned (do you know the origin?) and somehow the tomato stuff
didn't make it off the mark. I saw hers. It matched the original
perfectly, and somehow "mustard" seemed more appropriate. I said,
"Fabulous!" She said "Use, use." I have. I will continue to do so.
The original quote is from Gildor Inglorion (badass Elf) out of the
first volume of *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy:
"Meddle not in the affairs of wizards,
For they are subtle, and quick to anger."
I always attribute, when convenient.
