I stepped off the plane into the sweltering heat of a tropical hell.
Some poor bastards were told this was paradise. It is for the insects
and the human slime that feed off the tourist. For me it was an
escape. A low cost solution to my high cost problems. No one will
know me here. It’s the last place on earth to start over. I keep
telling myself this time it will be different. I know it is bull
shit. But I live with my lies. It can’t be worse than what I was
leaving behind. A rotting civilization hell bent on destroying
everything and everyone.

“Taxi?”
A young boy is smiling at me with a couple of teeth missing. Not baby
teeth either. I would take a taxi if I had somewhere to go.
“No.”
“Aw come on mister. I will show you the best bar in town.”
I wasn’t interested in the best of anything. My pursuit of the best
always led me to the worse, to the worse in me and to the worse in
others.
“Show me the worse and you got a deal.”
“Okay I know where that is. It’s where my momma works.”

The driver smelled worse than the cab. The kid next to him in the

The road was gravel and the rocks were clinking against the bottom of
the car. Paradise. maybe to flies and coclroaches.

The bar was on a short pier over the water. The water was a turqoise
with diamonds sparkling in it. A contrast to the rotting shell of a
shack the bar was. It was dark inside. Took a minute for my eyes to
adjust. It actually didn't look bad. Maybe all the bottles of liqour
made it seem better than it was.

Pretty fucking good. A book of these, no story, no locale, just
honestly abstract descriptions of a time and place and nothing more,
very nice.
