Often in reading of the events during WW 2 it comes to my mind that maybe
the spirit of Arthur did return to England during this dark moment in the
form of Winston Churchill

Evidently, great minds do think alike. That very premise was the subject of
a short story published in "Realms of Fantasy" magazine about 5 or so years
ago. Unfortunately, I cannot recall the author's name offhand! Or the
title. <sigh> I do recall that it was written from the point of view of
Mordred, who returned as a Spitfire pilot. Now this is going to bug me . .
.! Anybody else remember the story I'm thinking of??

There was a novel out called "Arthur, King" that has Arthur coming back
as a fighter pilot and Mordred being involved with the Germans.

Good story. It's still in print, I see copies of it around now and
then.

That puts him in interesting company. My favourite story about WW 2 is
Charles de Gaulle sitting in a little room in London by a gas fire, leaning
towards the person who told the story, hands on his knees, saying,
"You know, I am really St Joan."

This old man
World war Two
He told Churchill what to do
Free French General, crosses of Lorraine
He came rolling home again
....

This old man
Nine and ten
He'll play Nick till God knows when:
Cognac, Armagnac, Burgundy and Beaune:
This old man thinks he's Saint Joan!
