Subject: GOA Takes Pro-gun Message Nationwide in USA Today
GOA fighting for gun rights on several fronts
"The very assumption that the federal government has to 'do something about
guns' violates the Constitution, which guarantees that our right to keep and
bear arms 'shall not be infringed.'" -- GOA's Erich Pratt in USA Today
(August 1, 2013)
GOA has been fighting hard for your gun rights on Capitol Hill and in the
media. And even though Congress is about to begin its summer break, there's
still much work for us to do.
Here are just some of the most recent examples -- and a glimpse into what
battles we'll be fighting this month.
(1) GOA pushing to end harassment of pro-gun students.
Gun Owners of America's most recent mailing, being delivered right now in
mailboxes around the nation, addresses the very troubling issue of so-called
Zero Tolerance policies -- and how they result in suspensions for kids who
wear pro-gun shirts or turn their pop tarts into "weapons."
The mailing also reveals the work GOA is doing with Rep. Steve Stockman
(R-TX) on Capitol Hill to end these abusive practices in our public schools.

newsletters, then please sign up for a GOA membership here.

(2) GOA fighting to defund anti-gun ObamaCare.
GOA is currently working with Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) to defund the
implementation of the anti-gun ObamaCare law.
GOA issued an alert on this earlier this week, but as you probably know,
there have been some hiccups with our Legislative Action Center. For
example, in our most recent alert, the action item (in the email) was linked
to the wrong congressional letter (on the web).
There have been other issues as well, such as the Legislative Action Center
not remembering activists' names and addresses -- forcing gun owners to
repeatedly enter this information.
Rest assured that we are working on these issues with the company that hosts
our action center. Our host recently revamped its website for all of their
clients -- not just for Gun Owners of America -- and as you can imagine,
there have been some tremendous growing pains!
So we apologize and ask for your patience as we get these kinks worked out.
If you were unable to contact your Senators about defunding ObamaCare
earlier this week, you can do so now by clicking here.

(3) Obama's ATF Director narrowly confirmed.
On Wednesday, the Senate confirmed B. Todd Jones to head up the Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

(4) GOA in USA Today.
Yesterday, GOA Director of Communications Erich Pratt authored the opposing
piece in USA Today -- a debate that centered on whether Congress should fund
anti-gun junk science.
USA Today argued that we need such government studies so lawmakers can learn
how to reduce gun violence. Pratt said, just listen to our first
responders:
Eighty percent of law enforcement, according to a PoliceOne.com survey of
more than 15,000 officers,

believe that legally armed citizens (carrying concealed) would likely have
"reduced the number of casualties in recent mass shooting(s)."
"Bottom line," Pratt said, "leave the studies and politicking to the private
sector, and prevent taxpayer money from sponsoring politically motivated
junk science."
