Jaras, saut-e-Jaras, MaaniNd-e-Saut-Jaras

Jaras, saut-e-Jaras, MaaniNd-e-Saut-Jaras

The soft tolling of bells of a distant passing caravan symbolizes call
for renunciation. The quality of sound is simple and pure. Its
lingering insistence and easy dissolvability in surrounding fizaa has a
compelling urge to leave everything and merge in the pristine nature.
All those artistically inclined, occasionally feel that irresistible
urge to give up material things and merge with the nature and this
distant fading sound evokes that mpelling urge. If not anything, at
least you are temporarily lost in yourself.

These days I am concentrating on Mir therefore some sh'er and qat'aat
of Mir evoking magic of saut-e-jaras:


baraNg-e-jaras tujhse door huN tanha
Khabar nahi hai tujhe aah kaarvaaN meri!


rah ki sunta na tha yaaN raah maiN maaniNd-e-jaras
shor sa karte jaate the ham, baat ki kisko t'aakat thi

Mai pa shikast ja na saka qaafile tak
aati agarche der sadaa-e-jaras rahi
juN subh is chaman meN na khul k haNs sake
fursat rahi jo Mir bhi so ik nafas rahi

Ho gayi shahar shahar ruswaiiai
meri maut tu bhali aayi
ik bayaabaN baraNg-e-saut-jaras
mujh pe hai bekasi-o-tanhaaii

bahut Khoob Kala saahib. bahut achchhaa mauzoo' cheRaa hai aap ne.
mujhe Khud lafz jaras kee sautiyaat (phonetics) aur talaazimaat
(connotations) bahut pasand haiN.

kuchh aur ash'aar meN bhee "typos"/"omissions" haiN lekin maiN filhaal
unheN nazar-andaaz kar rahaa hooN. faqat is aaKhiree she'er ke baare
meN arz hai k pehle misre meN "yak" hai, na k "ik". yahaaN yak ke
ma'anee haiN, "bahut ziyaada", "bahut shadeed", vG. jaise Ghalib ne
bhee kahaa hai:

ab maiN hooN aur maatam e yak shehr e aarzoo
toRaa jo too ne aa'eena timsaal daar thaa

aap ne kaafee umda ash'aar likh Daale haiN, kuchh kaa izaafa maiN ki'ye
detaa hooN. pehle Mir, jinhoN ne jaras/tanhaa'yee kee "association" ko
ka'yee baar bartaa hai:

saut e jaras kee tarz bayaabaaN meN haa'ye Mir
tanhaa chalaa hooN maiN dil e pur-shor ko liye

tanhaa'yee, bai-kasee miree yak dast thee k maiN
jaise jaras kaa naala jaras se judaa gayaa

chalnaa huvaa to qaafila e roozgaar se
maiN jooN sadaa jaras kee akelaa chalaa gayaa

Mir ne yehee mazmoon Farsi meN bhee baandhaa hai:

kasam fariyaad-ras juz bai-kasee nabvad dar eeN vaadee
k chooN saut e jaras bisiyaar door az kaarvaaN maandam

Mus'hafee kaa mash'hoor she'er hai:

chalee bhee jaa jaras e Ghuncha kee sadaa pe naseem
kaheeN to qaafila e nau-bahaar Thehre gaa

aur is se bhee mash'hoor she'er Hali kaa:

yaaraan e taiz-gaam ne mahmil ko jaa liyaa
ham mahv e naala e jaras e kaarvaaN rahe

is she'er ko Firaq ne thoRaa palTaa ke yooN likhaa hai:

bichRe huvoN ko dhyaan hazaaroN tarah ke haiN
dil mahv e naala e jaras e kaarvaaN naheeN

Ustad Zauq ko suni'ye:

aatee hai sadaa e jaras e naaqa e Lailaa
sad haif k majnooN kaa qadam uTh naheeN saktaa

Jaleel Manakpuri ne kuchh haT ke kahaa hai:

ai jaras too to naheeN qaafila vaaloN se judaa
teree aavaaz meN ye dard kahaaN se aayaa!

aur Nasir Kazmi farmaa ga'ye haiN:

chale to haiN jaras e gul kaa aasraa le kar
na jaane ab kahaaN nikle gaa subh kaa taaraa

agar ko'yee mujh se poochhe to meree haqeer raa'ye meN is mazmoon kaa
sab se umda she'er Mir kaa "yak bayaabaaN..." hai.

jadeed daur meN ye Koobsoorat lafz shaa'iree (aur Urdu zabaan) se uTh
gayaa hai. shaayad is kee vajh daur e haazir meN kaarvaaN/qaafile ke
tasavvur kaa fanaa ho jaanaa hai. taaham is ehd meN bhee aik aavaaz
aisee hai jo sadaa e jaras ke qareeb qareeb pahunch jaatee hai, aur vo
kyaa hai bhalaa? rail kee seeTee! aur maze kee baat ye k ise shaa'iree
meN bhee nibhaayaa gayaa hai aur Khoobee se nibhaayaa gayaa hai. misaal
ke taur par Munir Niazi kaa dehlaa dene vaalaa she'er hai:

sub'h e kaazib* kee havaa meN dard thaa kitnaa Munir
rail kee seeTee bajee aur dil lahoo se bhar gayaa!
