Another shi'r contributed by janaab-i-Vijay Kumar Sahib is..

No prizes for the inspiration nor for the Ghazal receiving the

One wonders why Mehdi Hassan chose to include this graft to spoil an
enchanting Ghazal, whose beauty is matched only by the voice in which
he sang it.
In any case, it seems that paivands have been exhausted, so let us
broaden the topic somewhat to include "tazmiin" of famous ghazals.
These are common enough, since lines written by masters are used as
misra-e-tarHi in mushaa'aras. Once in a while you come across
something that does justice to the original.
I once heard something in the zamiin of Ghalib's Ghazal: "HairaaN huuN
dil ko ro'uuN keh piiTuuN jigar ko maiN"
naadim huuN le ke ziNdagii-e- muKhtasar ko maiN
Hairat se dekhtaa huuN janaab-e-Khizar ko maiN
behlaa'uuN kis taraH dil-e-veHshat asar ko maiN
le jaa'uuN kyaa uThaa ke byaabaaN meN ghar ko maiN?
The poet may be Yusuf Jamaal Ansari, but I might be wrong; it has been
so long.

Well, you've got to admire the humour in the first she'r. I am still
laughing.

Apparently this couplet is by Kunwar Mahendra Singh Bedi Sahar.

In a recent post entitled "Chaudhury KHushi Mohammed Khan Naazir Ki Ek
Naz'm", Afzal Sahib informed us by way of a post-script..
"Is naz'm par Naazir Saheb ke ek maddaah ne tazmeen bhi likhi thi.
Aur husn-e-ittefaaq se woh bhi mere paas hai. Kabhi mauqa huwa to use
bhi yahaaN pesh karooN ga."
and you wrote..
"We will wait for the tazmeen."
So, it might be appropriate if Afzal Sahib could perform the
"bismillah" and end our waiting:)

Kia yeh she'r:
'ishq ne Ghalib nikamma kar diyaa
vernah ham bhi aadami the kaam ke
bhi paivand hai?
This she'r is accepted as Ghalib's, but Jamiluddin 'Aali informs us
differently. It was a surprise to read in a recent column in the
daily "Jang" online that it is Hazrat Saalik's; or as ambiguosly
stated saaqib Lakhnavi's - I did not quite understand which. The link
is as follows:
http://www.jang.com.pk/jang/nov2008-daily/17-11-2008/col1.htm
If someone other than 'Aali had said so, I would have dismissed this
as a hoax.
The column has a few other interesting things to say, including the
origins of some zabul-misl ash'aar, a topic that we have discussed
here.

janaab-i-Jamil Sahib, aadaab-o-tasliimaat.
I have not yet looked at the jung link but this is what Ghulam Rasool
Mihr has had to say.
"KHud Mirza ne Hargaupaal Taftah ko ek KHat meN yih shi'r likhte vaqt
thoRaa saa tasarruf kar liyaa thaa, ya'nii:
zu'f ne Ghalib nikammaa kar diyaa
Riazuddiin Amjad ne "sair-i-dehlii" meN likhaa hai kih maiN ne yih
shi'r Mirzaa ke saamne paRhaa to farmaayaa:
"bha'ii! chup raho, yuuN kaho kih:
zu'f ne Ghalib nikammaa kar diyaa
yaa
dahr ne Ghalib nikammaa kar diyaa
'ishq kaisaa, 'aashiqii kaa vuh zamaanah nah rahaa"
(aHvaal-i-Ghalib page 50)
I hope Jamiluddiin 'Aalii Sahib had sound reasons to come up with his
comment.
KHair-KHvaah,
I doubt Aali saahib has any reasons; instead, I'm pretty sure he would
issue an erratum in the next iteration of his "izhaariya". I also
have a theory for this mistake: I think while making the claim in
question, Aali saahib had another she'r in mind which is often wrongly
attributed to Ghalib:
tang-dasti agar na ho "Ghalib"
tandurusti hazaar ne'emat hai
Of course this she'r is by Qurban Ali Salik (1824 – 1880):
shab balaa hai to rauz aafat hai
zindagi hijr meN museebat hai
tang-dasti agar na ho "Salik"
tan-durusti hazaar ni'emat hai
Aali saahib also got this “she’r” wrong:
na Khudaa hi milaa na wisaal e sanam
na idhar ke rahe na udhar ke rahe
Not only that the author is not Ghanshyam Lal Aasi but it’s only the
second misra of the actual she’r:
gaye donoN jahaan ke kaam se ham, na idhar ke rahe na udhar ke rahe
na Khudaa hi milaa na wisaal e sanam, na idhar ke rahe na udhar ke
rahe
And while we are at it, I’d also like to correct another she’r:
charKh ko kab ye saleeqa hai sitam-gaari meN
koyi ma’ashooq hai is parda e zangaari meN
As most ALUPers would certainly be aware, this she’r is by Munnu Lal
Safa, and not by Baanke Lal Sehl, as he claims.
I'd leave the rest of the mistakes for other ALUPers to correct.
