INNA-LILLAH-E-WA-INNA-ILA'IH-E-RAAJEUUN
"Haq maGhfirat kare, ajab aazaad mard thaa"
===============================================
For the education of those of us who may not know, please translate
into English the second "sentence" of your post, Asad saahib.
Even knowing that Faraz's passing was expected (due to the state his
health was in) for quite some time doesn't change the impact the news
of his passing has. Let's hope that wherever he is, he's regaling an
enthralled audience with his mesmerizing poetry

The Arabic sentence above is a quotation from the holy Qur'aan. It is
recited when one hears of someone passing away. It means:
To Allah we belong and to him we are going to return.
Or, in the words of Ghalib,
jaan dii, dii huii usii kii thii.
KHair-KHvaah,
Naseer
Naseer Saheb, I think this Ayat of Holy Qur'aan is recommended
itself by the Qur'aan to be recited for any material loss which
obviously includes death of a person as well.
Regards,
Irfan
janaab-i-Irfan Sahib, aadaab 'arz hai.
You are absolutely right, Irfan Sahib . I (merely) answered the
question but you have provided the complete picture. Thank you.
iHsaan-mand,
Naseer
Irfan Saheb,
Also, .......
Most people (obviously from our community) believe that if
you misplace something, then the recitation of this verse
will most likely help in finding the lost item.
Afzal
A great loss.
It was a privilege for me to meet him last year when he was visiting
the US.
He regaled us with his poetry and good humor.
He was also very gracious, and spoke affectionately to my children
about learning and speaking Urdu. I hope they'll remember.
One interesting sher I remember from that evening is, and he said "ye
shairoN ke liye hai":
"naamabaroN ko kab tak ham koo-e-yaar bhejeN
vo na-muraad aayeN ham baar baar bhejeN"
There's also a wonderful Ghazal he recited that evening, I'll post it
in the other thread.
"terii baate.n hii sunaane aaye
dost bhii dil hii dukhaane aaye
phuul khilate hai.n to ham sochate hai.n
tere aane ke zamaane aaye
" [Faraz]

piChhle kuChh haftoN se Chicago meiN rehne vaale dostoN se baat hotii
rehtii thii k Faraz sahib kitne aliil haiN, aur phir yeh faislah kiya
gaya k voh apne beTe aur male nurse ke saath apne mulk vaapas chale
jaayeN. lekin phir bhii yeh Khabar sun kar dil ko bahut afsos hua.
va'aqai Faraz sahib is daur ke sab se baRe Urdu shaayar the, aur un ke
jaane se ek bahut baRaa Khalaa paidah ho gaya hai. chaahe ruumaani
ashaar hoN, ya siyaasi/samaaji mauzu'aat par nazmeN, daur-e-haazir kii
Urdu shaayari meiN Faraz sahib kaa koii saani nahiiN hai.
Vasmi sahib, ham log Khush nasiib haiN k hameN Faraz sahib se milne,
aur un ka kalaam un kii zubaani sun ne kaa mauqah milta rahaa hai.
koii do tiin baras qabl, ek mehfil meiN jab Faraz sahib se merii
aaKhiri baar mulaaqat huii thii, to unhoN ne apne haathoN se yeh sher
mujhe likh kar diya tha:
"yeh dekh kar tere ruKhsaar-o-lab yaqiin aaya,
k phuul khilte haiN gulzaar ke ilaava bhii!"
yeh mere liye ek bahut qiimtii tohfa hai.
Faraz sahib ab hamaare biich nahiiN rahe, lekin un ka naam amar hai.
voh apnii nazmoN aur ghazaloN ke zariye hamesha zindah raheNge.
"badlaa na mere baad bhii mauzu'-e-guftguu,
